@TuckerForPunishment @hometeem Sounds like mgmt going the young player route rather than prospects let alone picks sigh.

@hometeem @Dan39 @Savo43 @Jay31 Fair enough.
@Savo43 Well I hope you're right, and I agree on Brown - he was an absolute gem in the 6th! Sure hope he can put on 15 lbs this year and dominate next year.
@Savo43 @Dan39 @Jay31 I watch these kids every home game, I'm as hopeful as they come. Just saying, you compare our prospect list versus the other teams, it's the worst in the league. Craig Button and others have said same.
@Savo43 @Dan39 @Jay31 If you can't stay in an AHL lineup at 21, you're not likely to make the NHL let alone be a piece that is more than replaceable for nothing.
@Mitch92 @Dan39 @Savo43 @Jay31 His upside is third line C. We picked up one of those for... Nothing this season. Total waste of a pick.
@Savo43 @Dan39 @Jay31 None of the kids you mention has outperformed in the NHL. Not even Rielly compared to his pick number although that's arguable.
@Savo43 @Jay31 Tyler fucking Biggs, Freddy Gauthier. Brad Ross. Why do you have confidence?
@Jay31 @Dan39 @Yaknowwhat Because it ignores that Clarkson was not brought here as a playmaker and doesn't play that role so the author is presenting a judgement of him in a metric that is going to put him in the worst light.
It's like saying a Ferrari - excuse me - a Ford Focus is shit because it can't haul an RV. Well, that ain't what t was bought for.
@Savo43 @Dan39 I know man, but let's not give credit to that nonsense anti-Leafs site

@Yaknowwhat That article is a pure slam piece, completely biased. I think it is actually meant to be more funny than informative.
Clarkson is about the cycle and net front presence. His main offensive contribution was supposed to be goals,specifically 15-20.
He is on pace for 15+ this season. That's more than ROR, not that it's relevant except that imagine the article that PPP dickhead would write if ROR gave us that for $7M.
@TheColborneUltimatum it's a bullshit article.
Everyone knew about how few assists Clarkson would get playing his game. The specific goal from Nonis was 15-20 goals. He's on pace for that this year.
Is he massively overpaid? Sure, but he's putting up the minimum numbers hope for...
@Top Jimmy What first or second line or pair talent are you talking about exactly? Lol
@THE dlb @Dan39 Just to clarify what I said above, I think and hope Nylander will be a good-very good player in the NHL, what I meant was his game right now is a long, long way off.
I saw the first game on TV as well and I didn't think any of the Marlies looked that good, including Nylander.
Put it this way, in both of his games with the Marlies, I didn't look at the kid and say, boy, this kid needs to be in the NHL the way you might see that in Frattin - not even close.
Like I said above, Brown is a lot closer RIGHT NOW than Nylander to a game that would be useful in the NHL.
4 days, 17 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Perennial All Star
@THE dlb @Dan39 Well I'm really excited about seeing for the rest of the year and next year in the AHL, but I'm not excited about his NHL potential just yet.
The Nylander kid plays elite river hockey - that's the best way I can describe it.
And I get excited about all my Marlies potential, but when I saw Morgan Rielly first join the team after his WHL season ended, I knew watching him that he had a much more NHL-suitable game.
Nylander has a long way to go to the NHL and I'm looking forward to watching it.
@Burtonboy @Dan39 @dlb, just dlb Perhaps not to you, then, but the point needs to be made as expectations have already gotten out of control on Nylander. He's not going to light up the AHL - it just isn't going to happen this year .
4 days, 19 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Perennial All Star
@dlb, just dlb @Burtonboy You guys are just seeing what you want to see in Nylander if you thought he was the best player on the Marlies at Ricoh on Saturday. And I'm excited about him - I brought three buddies with me to the game.
This is a young, raw, talent. He is not even close to the player in the AHL Brown is right now, for example. You don't believe me? Check their stats from here to the end of the season.
@Sebastian James He also has less goals than Clarkson - how would that play in the TO media?

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cloud09 Just like Biggs, eh. Great.

@hockeyanalysis @Dan39 No, I'm saying on a line with Kessel and JVR, if his responsibility was defense for the line, presumably his IPP% would be expected to be lower than that of his team mates. Does that make sense?
As to the WOWYs, I think you explained why his CF% would be lower without Kessel and I explained why Kessel's would be higher without him. Of course, Kessel is also a great player.
I don't know for certain, it just seems like you can explain at least part of why Bozak's advanced stats are so terrible in these ways. I don't know to what extent, though.
5 months, 4 weeks ago on Introduction to Advanced Statistics
Hi David, thanks for the article. Can you address this question, might have gotten lost below?
Re Bozak, don't the CF% and IPP% just show that he's the one on the line responsible for defense? With IPP%, it's obvious what I mean. With CF%, it seems to me his with-numbers may indicate more defensive assignments and the without% perhaps when Kessel is deployed on a rush or prolonged offensive zone period to add more offense.

@vinoa @Yaknowwhat Truth.

Despite trying to talk myself into it, couldn't get the motivation up to watch the game last night. I'm guessing since they lost, the boys were playing shinny hockey?
Leafs never seem to do well when they try and play a low-intensity style and that was always going to be the game plan for a soft team like Nashville that can't match us physically.
Perhaps an occasion where Dion could have showed some leadership and landed a big hit or talked someone into a scrap (like the captain of the Sabres did with Clarkson) to get the team engaged?
Speaking of Phaneuf, the boxscore suggests he was comprehensively outplayed by Weber, like he was by Suter in the game with the Wild. He's still elite though, right.? Maybe not elite elite though.
@Alec Brownscombe @Dan39 Heh, I was hoping you would appreciate the "bloggers frequently speculating [McLaren would sit] (in error)" comment.
1 year, 2 months ago on Game Preview: Kadri returns as Leafs host Preds
@MaxwellHowe @Dan39 Yeah, well he appears to be sitting tonight, which does not surprise me in the least as, like you say, they have more than enough muscle for tonight.
Against the tough teams, though, different story. The future is Broll and Devane though and they're faster, probably even than the whittled, sharpened up , version of Orr we have seen this season.
@Alec Brownscombe @steele123 Lol, okay.
@Xxxxxnew So he is sitting McLaren then? As I suspected, the Predators are one of the weakest teams in the entire NHL after all.
Maybe Clarkson gets a fight - that's all I can see potential for. Unless Clune wants to follow old man Nystrom's lead to the quiet room.
@Bobsyouruncle Dramatically worse. Eakins got lucky on player development curves and was hoping to do the same with the Oilers.
@Armchair GM I believe it - he's an immature, asshole. His DUI + drunk/disorderly total is up to 2 or 3 now?
@steele123 @Mattmark @Jmessih On pace for 24 pts, for a soft/skill player, that's a one-way ticket to the AHL. Colborne is a huge, mushy, bust.
@Burtonboy I hope we smash the shit out them with all kinds of other dangerous aspects of our game.
@Airfreshener @Alec Brownscombe Tell him? I was really enjoying your rant up until that point.
If there was ever a night that Carlyle was going to sit McLaren, as the anti-fighting activists endlessly advocate, and the bloggers frequently speculate (in error), this would be the night to do it.
The fact that their primary enforcement comes from Rich Clune, who as an absolute punching bag down in the AHL is now simply endangering himself in the NHL, tells you what you need to know.
But it gets worse.
'Backing up' Clune, you have the Dorsett-esque Matt Hendricks (you know, the one who inexplicably gave Broll stage fright in a bout earlier this year) and old man Eric Nystrom.
Although, I'm not even sure you get the latter. After Gramps got it up to trade with Glass last week, and briefly threw with intent, he ate a series of hard rights to send him down to the ice and then on to the quite room.
Go collar grip for collar grip and straight right for straight right with Orr and it's not the quite room, it's the emergency room that you're heading to.
This is a franchise that foolishly traded away Brian McGrattan (shocking that this team is forever in financial distress, eh?) and is now vulnerable for our 'lost boys' to regain their identity. McLaren then may dress yet.
And now I've talked myself into getting excited for a game with the Nashville Predators.
@Knights2Leafs @rustynail Care to elaborate?
@mlclearwater @Dan39 I like Carrick and I like him more now that I know he is not just a pure agitator but a fighting agitator, like a Tucker or something. I hope he continues with this improved form.

@Cameron19 Going with Finn as my brother works with the dad. Percy is very solid, though - that's the way I would describe him. Finn I have not seen but these rumours of open ice hits are very compelling.
@mlclearwater Fuck, I desperately want to see the replay of that game. The one game I miss at Ricoh there were what three fights and Leivo comes alive, McKegg had a good game? These are all things I wanted to see.
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon I prefer the term "fight", but appreciated nonetheless.
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon Okay, enough - I have a 7AM presentation so I'm up at 5 tomorrow. Sigh
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon And that's enough Cameron. Ultimately we're just arguing about degrees of greatness here...
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon Lol, the media made Babcock not select him if he doesn't get selected. |If he does get selected, presumably that was on merit? Flawless.
@Cameron19 @newkb @djamon Not to mention the fact that he is not playing anywhere near the same minutes this year and yet even you have admitted the quality of minutes between the two is roughly even. You should drop the argument, but you should do it because suggesting Phaneuf is on the same approximate level as Suter is utterly ridiculous. You are a complete homer, in total ignorance of the facts before you, if you believe that.
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon Only to point out that he wasn't even being discussed. It is the Team Canada management that is not going to select him - you still have to deal with that far greater problem with your argument.
@rustynail @Cloud09 What did Stoner do to deserve that?
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon And there is no need to insult me, I was being civil.
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @newkb @djamon Yeah, I'm a moron and so are the people who select Team Canada and yet you, who do what - do you even go to hockey games? - are genius. OKay...
@newkb @Dan39 @Cameron19 @djamon That is not the only quality I was talking about - we got onto a tangent because Cameron insisted on it. Suter also plays at least as good as Phaneuf in the minutes he does play.
@Cameron19 @Dan39 @djamon Significantly more minutes every night this season. You're focusing on specifics and exceptions, because your overall argument is so obviously wrong.
@newkb @Dan39 @Cameron19 @djamon All season Suter has played vastly more minutes. Look it up.
