@Komas Taberle @CanuckUKinToronto Yeah, October is a pretty useless month to gauge how well the team is doing, as we've all witnessed.

@-Keon Kind of sucks for Kontiola. Only forward who's exempt.

So apparently having Nylander in the AHL won't burn a year off his ELC. Tatar did the same thing and had his contract slide until he made the NHL. Unless, of course, the new CBA changed that rule.
@Burtonboy How in the world does that make sense when Rogers just got majority TV rights for the Leafs? Unless CBC/SN starts broadcasting Montreal/Ottawa nationally and TSN take Toronto. But you'd think Rogers would be the one buying out bell.
Either way, I'm sure whichever team ends up on the outside is licking it's chops at a 2nd team in Toronto.

Gonna be a massacre to my ears all season long. Romanuk, Randorf, and Millen for all Sportsnet games.

@LN-093 I don't get why people are happy or sad he's gone. At best it should be neutral. He brought in Shanny, Ujiri, and revamped TFC and we don't yet know what the end result will be and we might never see it because what if the new president comes in and doesn't like Ujiri or Shanahan? What if he wants it the way it was before? I don't get Leiweke leaving can make anyone happy.

Far from a reliable source, but to go along with the alleged Vegas expansion, Sports Illustrated is saying 4 expansion teams are coming by 2017. Vegas, Seattle, Toronto, and Quebec City. Probably BS but who knows.

@Mind Bomb @loomx @Anthony Petrielli @Burtonboy 2nd best PK in the league in 12-13, 3rd worst in 13-14. You'd think it would end up somewhere in the middle.

@Anthony Petrielli @Burtonboy Maybe they just stick with Komarov and Winnik as the top unit. Komarov has shown he can win draws but he didn't take them regularly. It would save the need to take Bozak off after the draw. Kontiola might be an option too. Komarov-Winnik, Bozak-Santorelli, Kontiola-JVR. Lots of options.
There we go. Shout out to wiski. Challenge goes out to Bruffins, Cam, and dlb.

@sniperstar @Murph2417 @Mcost61 The difference between new-gen NHL15 and pregen NHL 15 doesn't warrant the purchase of a new console. That's the way I see it anyway. Unless there's another game I really want, I'm not buying a $450 NHL machine.

Anyways, cheers folks. As usual, nice talkin' to ya.

@Cameron19 @loomx Right, but I'm saying that "changing our design" isn't a very new thing. Our original design kind of sucked once we got to new parts of the world.
@Cameron19 @loomx But all of it is just hypothesizing from nothing of substance though. What if one day I can make a functioning brain out of spaghetti? Am I human? Or spaghetti?
If you're(and I'm not picking on you or your examples) hypothesizing about humans not realizing that they're becoming not human anymore, then wouldn't the simple fact that you're thinking about it make it a barrier for it actually happening? I mean, if there is something that can shut off your fear of pain(which I kind of agree would make us something more than human, but still kind of human), wouldn't you, along with many others, not want to do that? Such an alteration could just as easily be restricted and illegal as it could become a characteristic of our species. Would being a walking wikipedia(which we already are, just very limited), eliminate our curiosity?(another important human characteristic)
For me, this stuff is so unsubstantiated that it's difficult to argue that it's a legitimate possibility.(and, like Tim Horton said, well beyond our lifetimes, making it difficult to predict the path these things will lead to)
@Cameron19 @loomx @Uncle Otis @Cloud09 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @DeclanK In greater numbers, sure. But mainly on one continent that nobody gives a shit about(Africa). Because disease, widespread poverty, and child labour does not happen around here. Is that a product of evil enterprises, or are people kind of secretly happy with the way things are? Like I said, it's about power. Everybody likes having some kind of power over others. Human nature is flawed that way.
@Luke_R I think lukethenuke has more flair. Reminds of happier days.
@Hmmm @loomx @Cameron19 Right, but it's become an essential part of our ability to survive. It's helped us get out of the food chain and this "changed our design"
@Cameron19 @loomx How can it discount humanity though? That's what I'm not getting. You think one day, we'll just be walking wikipedias with no compassion? 'cause, yeah, I could see that as not being human. But otherwise, it's all about adaptation in order to survive and live longer.
@Cameron19 @loomx Then what? That's the problem. These are all very hypothetical. Could that happen? sure. But what part of humanity is eroded? Are we less human if that happens or is that just the next step in evolution? I mean, we're all constantly importing data into our brains, technically. So what would be different? Placebo effects can already trick your brain into thinking you have no pain.

@Cameron19 @loomx @Uncle Otis @Cloud09 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @DeclanK Fear tactics? Fear tactics have existed in every power structure ever. Churches were built nice and tall to tower over the people as a form of intimidation. People were executed often for no good reason as a show of power and on and on. You know why people got pissed off when he was around? Because there were unregulated work hourse, sickness, disease, intense poverty, and child labourers. That's what they were fighting for. You think they'd be fighting if they had the life you and I have?
As for the "stupifying" of the population. Stupid people have always existed, only now, there's more of them. It's also funny how Brand is trying to spearhead this movement, yet he must be part of the stupifying from in his recent films such as Get Him to the Greek.
@Hmmm @loomx @Cameron19 We are dependent on tools. If we weren't we would've ceased to exist long ago. Plenty of animals are bigger and stronger than us and if it weren't for tools, they would've wrecked us long ago.
@Cameron19 @loomx So we replace eyes and limbs. Are those what make us human?
@Cameron19 @loomx @Uncle Otis @Cloud09 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @DeclanK That's what capitalism always was. Marx knew that. It's definitely on a bigger scale and Marx probably would be scratching his head wondering what's taking so long, but the principle is still the same. The working class can still overpower the guys at the top, there's no doubting that. It's just a matter of when for Marx. I doubt that the reason it hasn't happened has much to do with brain washing either. In the end, a guy like Hobbes was right. Politics and humanity is about power. We'd all like to think that we can hold hands and be equals, but once you find yourself in a comfortable position over those below you, you don't really want to risk giving that up to bring about equality.
I agree about tech being suppressed, oil companies want to maintain power for as long as they possibly can. But it's definitely not being suppressed to the extent that some are taking it. Perpetual energy is impossible.
@Cameron19 @loomx But these are hardly insidious changes. It's nothing but trying to improve on the human conditions. If there's one thing humans hate, it's dying. For centuries, people have been trying to live as long as possible. Do these make us any less human?
We were also gifted with a weird body structure that didn't give us much mobility. We were gifted with a brain, but from that we've had to develop tools to survive because we were a lot weaker than other animals roaming the Earth. We eventually needed clothing to keep us warm, vaccines to keep us healthy, all things that helped us exceed the original design. If it weren't for the brain, humans would've had a pretty miserable time. So the original design was changed.
@Cameron19 @Uncle Otis @Cloud09 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @DeclanK Right. But he's talking about like basic political stuff that has been discussed since Marx and Engels.
To me, that's separate from other theories floating around here like the big companies suppressing perpetual energy. That's a whole other (largely unsubstantiated) step.
@Uncle Otis @Cameron19 @Cloud09 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan @DeclanK The NHL is an "entertainment biz" and part of pop culture.
@Cameron19 "medical advancements will create physical links that actually exceed our original "design"."Like what? Human existence has depended on us adapting in order to "exceed our original designs". Our original design was awful but our species persevered.
Never knew there were so many crackpots on MLHS ;)

@Mind Bomb @Pent_House @theacs1966 @loomx Yeah, he'll probably make the NHL. I guess it depends on how you rank your players. Do you rank them based on how good they are now+what their ceiling is? Or do you rank them strictly based on whether they'll just make the NHL?
@Greg Fenton @Loric76 Yep. There's no way you could protect the two picks. Since Burke gave up two picks, you could probably only protect the 2011 pick. And the way it usually works is that if it's a top 10 pick, the pick transfers to the next year without protection. So we would've had Hamilton, and the 2012 pick would've been surrendered along with Seguin and Knight.
@TheCanucksnaphook @loomx @Pent_House Yep. I agree. That said, Are prospects that you're projecting to find a place on the 4th line considered top 10 prospects? Especially over guys who have a higher ceiling?
@Pent_House Okay, but do you think he's going to be more than a really solid 4th line role player?
@Cameron19 @Loric76 @Mcost61 Yep, Carlyle likes them, he just misused them for a long time.
@Greg Fenton @TheCanucksnaphook @Luke_R That's okay. The draft is just oozing with talent. top 5 guys are going to be better than Ekblad.
@TheCanucksnaphook They could finish anywhere from top 5 in the draft to 3rd in the division. If Bernier doesn't regress, Carlyle changes, the defense gels, and the bottom 6 scores, then we'll see the playoffs. If Bernier regresses, none of the improvements will matter much, meaning 3rd in the wild card race at best. If Brenier regresses+Carlyle doesn't change+the acqusitions are busts, then hello McD.
@Yaknowwhat @Mind Bomb @Burtonboy @MaxwellHowe The same can be said about the OHL, WHL, QMJHL, and the AHL.
@The Toronto Maple Leaf @dlb Mad Yup. I don't know why people are trying to frame this as one vs. the other. Nobody's saying that you shouldn't scout.

@Cameron19 @loomx @Greg Fenton @Burtonboy @maple1967leafs Jake Gardiner skates like Scott Nidermayer. That must mean I think Gardiner will be as good.
1 week, 2 days ago on Friday Mashup: Leiweke not long for Toronto
@Cameron19 @loomx @Greg Fenton @Burtonboy @maple1967leafs Go through the draft of that year. He had a better year than 2nd round counterparts like De La Rose, Dahlstrom, Arnesson, and maybe Hagg. Johnsont, Gudlevskis, and Reway are definitely the best players from the 4th round.
@Greg Fenton @mike_84 In this sense
@mike_84 Makes sense.
@Greg Fenton @Burtonboy @maple1967leafs He's already proven to be better than his 7th round ranking. Redo that draft today and he's probably in the 2nd/3rd round.
@Greg Fenton @mike_84 @Cameron19 Nonsense. In a league like the SHL, which I'm sure neither you or I watch or pay attention to regularly, we need context to see what good numbers are in that league. I can say Connor Brown lead the OHL in scoring with 128 points and say that's better than Toffoli in his draft year +2. It doesn't suggest anything about the future of Brown or, in this case, Johnson.
@Xxxxxnew That's the thing though, Kadri gets 13 games with Kessel and everyone, including Carlyle, concludes that he didn't look good enough. Bozak had 119 games with Kessel before someone else got a look there(Connolly/Grabo) and this mysterious and "unique" chemistry has kept him there since.
