@Dogger And you'll NEVER get the right supporting cast without blowing a hole in the core of the team. Maybe they'll just fall out of the sky but I doubt it. Burke should've started the rebuild by keeping the picks and then making trades. He tried to do everything quickly. It's like the Leafs were just his project and now he's in Calgary doing things right.

@Top Jimmy Oh and he'll get 6 years only if management stays patient. Good luck with Bell/Rogers in time. Two cable companies that screw their customers owning a team that screws it's fans. Perfect fit.
@Top Jimmy Great. Another 6 years to see if Shanny knows what he's going. Here we go!
(count me out)
@Dogger They've spent 36% of they cap on a one-way winger, a 1D that nobody wants, Wendel Clark$on, and a broken Lupul. THat's a massive chunk on inadequate pieces.
@Xxxxxnew Seems like the Leafs problem is identifying good hockey minds. Even in an area of the organization where they can spend at will with no cap, they still can't get the best people for the job.
@Dogger So he took a team that was so bad, traded valuable draft picks for a one-way winger, and together with Nonis he built a capped out mediocre team that has to trade away Kessel and Phaneuf(the cornerstones of the rebuild)? Job well done.
@Dogger Had a chance to start with an actual rebuild. Instead Burke put all his essential pieces for a good rebuild in a package for a winger. the "rebuild was doomed from the start. and now here we are.
@Dogger And now we're a nearly capped out mediocre team. huzzah.
@Dogger Have you seen the state of the team? 6 years and no improvement. The team is irreparably broken and built with a flawed blueprint.
@wendelsfist @loomx and then some.
What a complete waste of time it's been following this team for the past 6 years. Never again.
Anyway that's enough for me. Maybe I'll watch my first game in two months. Probably not though. In any case I better use this while it's still relevant:
3 weeks ago on Randy Carlyle Fired
@wendelsfist @loomx @Burtonboy But the decision on the core had to be delayed because the team had bad goaltending and then fired their GM who had a vision with the coach he just hired, and then got good goaltending but got rid of their best two-way centre in Grabovski and so on and so forth and here we are today.
@wendelsfist @loomx Oh I agree that Wilson wasn't a solution, I just think he was better than Carlyle.
@Burtonboy @loomx @wendelsfist Yep, and this is a process that could've started much earlier in the year.
It's too bad Lupul got injured again. Probably impossible to trade him for the remainder of his contract.
@MaxwellHowe @loomx That's probably a good bet.
@wendelsfist This was the main argument all along though: I don't know exactly what the problem is, but I know Carlyle is not a solution.
Anti-Carlyle people were just arguing with pro-carlyle people on the second part of that sentence.
Is it on the players? yep. Will you get a better assessment of the players without Carlyle? yep.
That's pretty much the limit of our knowledge of the problem. Anything more is just guesswork at this point.
@wendelsfist @loomx He didn't even have him for a full season. In the 2nd half of the 10-11 season his team played great, and in the first bit of 11-12 his team played great until Reimer got injured and wasn't the same when he came back. The rest of the time, Wilson had sub .903SV% goalies.
In every season Carlyle was here he's had at least one goalie with over .920SV%. I mean, this isn't even debatable. The fact that Carlyle's record is that close to Wilson's with goaltending like that is appalling.
@wendelsfist @loomx Thanks to his goaltending.
@wendelsfist Scary how close Wilson's PTS% to Carlyle's considering the former had Toskala, Joeseph, Gustavsson, and Giguere for half of his tenure.
@philthethrill I wish I could write that on an exam and pass.
@philthethrill sheesh. what a concept.
@Bigfoot_for_1C @loomx Regardless, it's a decision that everyone saw coming and it wasn't made because oh "the players need to learn who's boss".
Sure showed them.
@wendelsfist @loomx Florida with 3 games in hand. But it's sort of admirable I guess.
@Bigfoot_for_1C @loomx And on a downward trend. How long is it going to take to turn it around?
What a waste of half a season.
Looks like the team is doing well without me. I think it's a sign...

@Anthony Petrielli @loomx @Jmessih I have great respect for the work you do here. Can't imagine not writing "fuck it" every night after a while.
The fact is that this is still Burke's frankenstein experiment. He's doing in Calgary what he should've done here. He should never have traded for Kessel, he should never have traded for Phaneuf or Lupul or Gardiner or any of those guys. There was a reason those guys were available in the first place. He should've recognized what he had, and started fresh maybe with Duchene and Seguin and you can add from there.

@Anthony Petrielli @loomx @Jmessih I spent a lot of time here man. I liked the passion that other people showed. That passion for me is 100% gone. It's sad really.
Had to log back in for this debacle. Didn't watch tonight and I'm not going to watch another game this season and probably beyond. The Leafs are never going to win a Stanley Cup under the reign of MLSE and since the two will never split, well.....
I chose not to see that for a long time but the day has finally come. I'm insanely disinterested in this team. They'll never do what it takes to build a winner. We've seen that in the last 9 years, make that 47. So much wasted time putting faith in guys that other teams couldn't wait to get rid of. Time to move on.
@Jmessih Man fuck that shit. Life's too short to waste time blindly following something that will never give back what you put in. Win first, then we'll see.
Well MLHS, it's been a hoot. Sometimes you just gotta know when to step back. I care too much and it hurts my brain. Keep the good articles coming guys. Go on without me, I'll catch up later.

@phaneufoundlander @loomx Skating can only take you so far. He just doesn't think the game very well.
2 months, 1 week ago on GDT: Game #18, Toronto Maple Leafs vs Buffalo Sabres (7pm, HNIC)
Getting pretty sick of Gardiner.
Fantasy hockey question: I need to play one goalie and that goalie needs to not shit the bed. I don't need a win, I just need a high SV%. Emery vs. Montreal or Justin Peters vs. St.Louis?
@DeclanK Yayyyy! We're not bottom 5!
@Luke_R @loomx I think last year's intro was a Fall out Boy song leading into Knights of Cydonia which was pretty good.
2 months, 1 week ago on Game 17 Scoring Chances: Penguins 2 vs. Maple Leafs 1
Like the goal song this year. Much better than last years.
@ingy56 On emergency basis. Someone hurt?
@vinoa @Jmessih I'd trade him while he's decent to be honest. Zero faith that he can ever be anything more than below-average defensively.
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Tuesday Mashup: Bruins Wednesday
@Bruffins @loomx Well everything I'd read suggested he'd be a top 4 pick. Highly skilled two-way player. In the end it worked out for some teams who maybe gambled on lesser known/injured guys like Anaheim with Lindholm and us with Rielly but man...Dumba and Koekkoek over him?
Not to mention the Caps traded him for Martin Erat...
@Jmessih Winnik's back. Like Chumbawamba, he gets knocked down, but he gets up again. Playing with Kadri and Clarkson because ya know, we got sick of a possession driven 1st line...
The kid is on fire. He was my choice at #5 after the Islanders picked. Although that was a great draft and most teams got a good player, I bet some teams from 6-10 are feeling pretty silly.
@newkb Yes, but Panik-Kadri-Kessel looked just as good together. Why go back to a line that allows as many goals against as goals for instead of just trying something new?
@newkb Really? Are we going back to the "look at the standings/result" argument over what's best for the long term?
@T K O @loomx @wendelsfist Obviously you can switch it up at certain key parts of the game. Overall, the switched up top 6 performed better than what we have now. It's not always about the amount of pretty goals a line can produce.
@wendelsfist @loomx The goal should be to limit the amount of time the top 6, especially the top line, spends in the Dzone. From what I saw, switching it up helped immensely. The first game they went back to JVR-Bozak-Kessel, they were hemmed in 5-6 times which led to goals against.
