@Mattmark @loomx @vinoa @Yaknowwhat I think you're missing the point. You've highlighted a problem with small sample sizes. What one guy calls a shot and what another guy calls a shot can be different. That's a bias in stats. Large sample sizes eliminates that bias. There's nothing that can eliminate the bias of Dave Nonis, Claude Loiselle, and Dave Poulin believing that meat and potatoes players with minimal hockey skills are worth over 5mil.
@Yaknowwhat It's just an example though.
Also apparently a bunch of people do since a bunch of people still think Bozak and Kessel have special chemistry.
@Mattmark @vinoa @loomx @Yaknowwhat There's a difference between the bias of one GM or scout saying "I think Bozak and Kessel have great chemistry" and the bias of a stats guy saying "was that a SOG or a pass attempt?"stats help eliminate some of that first kind of bias.
@Yaknowwhat Right. It can be situational which is why you need context. Throwing Bozak on for a faceoff at the end of the game all the time can have on the stats which is why you should JUMBLE THE LINES THAT AREN'T WORKING, LEAFS. If Bozak's WOWY's show that he's complete trash without Kessel, it's worth investigating by switching things up and seeing if it's true. In that way, you can see the type of player you have in Bozak instead of paying him as if he's a top 6 center(for example).
@dlbu dlbu E @Yaknowwhat Nobody is saying pick one or the other though. You need to use both.
@zoidbergman Seems like it's just a move to keep the Marlies intact rather than calling people up and sending them down.
@vinoa @loomx @Yaknowwhat people get too hung up on corsi. Corsi alone will never be sufficient in the same way that any single indicator on player competence, stats or no stats, is never sufficient.
@Yaknowwhat No? Using those along with Corsi can help you identify problems with an individuals low corsi rating.
@Yaknowwhat Which is why there are WOWY and QualComp stats.
@Luke_R Bozak has barely averaged over 50 points/season in his career playing with Kessel and Lupul/JVR. One ppg player and a 60 point player. Vermette has averaged 42 points/season in Phoenix and I don't think he's played with a single 50 point player. better defensively too.Neither are great, but Vermette is better.

@HHT @Jay31 There's no way they pass us. Best we can do is 4th overall pre-lottery.
@HHT 485 points in NHL 552 games.
@rustynail Dumb. Clarkson was the biggest mistake. A close second is the Liles/Komisarek buyout gaffe and not trading Mac, Grabo, and Kule

@Nylanderthal @loomx @peterbleafs He's done.
1 week ago on Leafs trade David Clarkson for Nathan Horton
@peterbleafs They did have insurance but only on hockey-related injuries.
@Armchair GM Enough to get Mike Richards!!!
@sniperstar If the Leafs use the new cap space to acquire Richards: Lose-lose.
@Nylanderthal I'd give Jokinen a top 6 spot on the wing to see if he can improve his trade value.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Leafs Trade Mike Santorelli & Cody Franson to the Nashville Predators
@Bruffins @loomx I'm about as happy as Phil Kessel sitting on the bench after a long scoring drought.
@Jmessih @loomx oh the irony....
@peterbleafs @loomx I sincerely doubt they cause several wins. As we've seen in the past, the Leafs win early in the season no matter who's in the lineup and then fizzle out, only they've never done a good job at selling players that were doing well. Noe we get a free prospect.
@Jay31 @loomx Exactly. Leafs basically get a free good prospect because they gave Santo a chance
lol and people were saying that signing guys like Santorelli and Winnik was useless.
@Radar O'Rielly And Bell and Rogers are running the organization.....

@TheLoovTrain @loomx @Juke joint Jimmy Yeah but if they gave him another two years and the team was in the same spot they are today, at least you can say "well, none of this worked. Time to clean house!" Instead we still have this weird frankenstein management structure that doesn't seem to know what it wants.
@Burn_the_Loov_Boats @loomx This team is dead to me. It isn't dead to you? When you're talking about rebuilding, the team is dead. None of it is working. the majority of the acquisitions over the past 4 years have been for nothing
@TheLoovTrain @loomx @Juke joint Jimmy Probably. But it's still better than firing him and giving the reins to Nonis just before the season started.(for non-hockey reasons) All that did was waste two and a half seasons. either keep him, or clean house and start over then and there.
@Burn_the_Loov_Boats @loomx No thanks. I like this site and I spent a lot of time on it.
@TheLoovTrain @loomx @Juke joint Jimmy That isn't the assumption. It's just better to see through one man's plan than the fractious alternative that we got.
@Cameron19 @loomx Honestly I just don't care. The team is dead to me. It doesn't make sense to me to follow this team until it makes the playoffs again(consistently). If that makes me a bandwagoner then so be it.
I was just curious as to why people think that a rebuild will work.
@Cameron19 @zoidbergman You should be able to find those types of guys in your prospect pool if you draft well.
@Juke joint Jimmy People said the same thing about Burke and the organization fired him before he could finish.
@Cameron19 @loomx I guess doing that has stopped making sense to me.
The entire organizational structure is too flawed.
Does anybody really think that the next rebuild will be done properly and work?
@Dogger And you'll NEVER get the right supporting cast without blowing a hole in the core of the team. Maybe they'll just fall out of the sky but I doubt it. Burke should've started the rebuild by keeping the picks and then making trades. He tried to do everything quickly. It's like the Leafs were just his project and now he's in Calgary doing things right.

@Top Jimmy Oh and he'll get 6 years only if management stays patient. Good luck with Bell/Rogers in time. Two cable companies that screw their customers owning a team that screws it's fans. Perfect fit.
@Top Jimmy Great. Another 6 years to see if Shanny knows what he's going. Here we go!
(count me out)
@Dogger They've spent 36% of they cap on a one-way winger, a 1D that nobody wants, Wendel Clark$on, and a broken Lupul. THat's a massive chunk on inadequate pieces.
@Xxxxxnew Seems like the Leafs problem is identifying good hockey minds. Even in an area of the organization where they can spend at will with no cap, they still can't get the best people for the job.
@Dogger So he took a team that was so bad, traded valuable draft picks for a one-way winger, and together with Nonis he built a capped out mediocre team that has to trade away Kessel and Phaneuf(the cornerstones of the rebuild)? Job well done.
@Dogger Had a chance to start with an actual rebuild. Instead Burke put all his essential pieces for a good rebuild in a package for a winger. the "rebuild was doomed from the start. and now here we are.
@Dogger And now we're a nearly capped out mediocre team. huzzah.
@Dogger Have you seen the state of the team? 6 years and no improvement. The team is irreparably broken and built with a flawed blueprint.
@wendelsfist @loomx and then some.
What a complete waste of time it's been following this team for the past 6 years. Never again.
