Q&A: Spurs vs. Suns

I don't know anything about the Suns, but I do know a little about the Spurs:

1. Last night after the OKC/Miami game Charles Barkley was admiring the Spurs' system on national TV.

2. I asked my friend, who does not watch basketball, to name any players on the Spurs and he said, "GINOBILI, Duncan and Parker!". Then I asked him to name players from the Suns and he asked "The Suns?". Keeping this in mind, our team also consists of Leonard, Belinelli, Patty, Splitter, Green, Joseph,...

3. Undoubtedly, Gregg Popovich is the best coach in the NBA.

4. I don't know much about Phoenix, but San Antonio was built on sacrifice, hard work, bravery and trust. In fact, Texas Counties are named after men who died defending the Alamo. I like to think the Spurs are an embodiment of those qualities.

5. Lastly, OKC and Houston lost last night and we recently beat the Clippers. So winning brings us closer to No. 1 in the West and creates space from those below us.

Go Spurs Go!

I think his picture makes him look like an old man. You know, the type of old man with bad knees. Let him go to Miami. Both him and Miller can be plagued by injuries together.

@alamoaggie08 I love dreaming. To solidify your point, Lamb looked really bad yesterday during the Summer League game against Orlando. Despite hitting the game winner, he was horrible.

@yowhatupT @KawhiLights By starting the younger, less experienced big men you provide them with more minutes (experience) and help boost their confidence. Thus, Duncan can get his well deserved rest and shine during the playoffs. However, it is just a thought. Whether he starts or not, I still like our lineups. Best in the West!

Starters: Kawhi, TP, Splitter, DG, and X.

Bench: TD, Manu, Belinelli, Diaw, X

+Pendergraph, Jim Boylen, and whoever else makes their way onto the roster.

However it may fall I like our chances. We may not have KD/Westbrick, Harden/Space Cadet, or the starting five of the Warriors, but we do have the BEST group of role players. Our rotations are going to be wicked.

@Fernanana Do you find it difficult to watch ESPN, NBATV, or any other media outlet who share their opinions with the public? As far as I can tell, everyone plays GM during the off-season.   This is the opportunity for fans (and journalists) to 'play' GM for a day and spend time browsing sites, looking at stats, assessing contracts, watching highlight reels, etc. It is fun, give it a try sometime. Also, why are you complaining about fans and their perceptions of Tiago and Manu within the comments section of a Darren Collison article? I read through the comments and no one is complaining about Manu or Tiago. Lastly, I doubt we would have left Tiago for Howard. The guy is a space cadet and don't forget Pop cursed him out at an All-Star game.

@JeffProjectSpurs I suppose it might have something to do with having Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, Aron Baynes, JaMychal Green, and Livio Jean-Charles at their disposal this upcoming and future seasons. Seeing how three of these young men are under the age of 26 it might not suite us to pursue an older player nearing the end of his career (e.g., Kirilenko 32).

@ChrisCano We have around five (5) million. Just enough to sign Carlos Delfino and JaMychal Green. Then and only then will we be complete.

@ChrisCano From a Spurs perspective we are always in rebuild mode, which is why we have four championships and talented players spread around the globe.  It is my belief R. C. Buford is always looking ahead and doesn't have to worry about giving Manu 7/yr. especially with a talented pool of players abroad and in the D-League to chose from in exchange for peanuts.  The Spurs are still the Spurs of the early 21st Cenutry because we are constantly evolving. Evolving at such a slow rate where it becomes impossible to notice.

For example, it is obvious the Celtics and LA had no foresight (never evolving) and now are looking themselves in the mirror asking 'why?'. The next team to be staring back at themselves will be the Clippers. As for us, new talent on the roster or current players abroad will slowly fill the shoes of the current vets and the City of San Antonio will continue to win! So bringing back a player who has done so much for the City of San Antonio, as well as his native Country of Argentina has less an impact on us than say...the rest of the NBA.   Go Spurs Go!

Ain't going to happen, just look at their ages. I can see them winding up in Dallas though. As for us needing a backup forward, Carlos Delfino would fit nicely. We can afford him, he is a Euro player and an Argentinian, can hit the 3-ball and drive it to the rim (unlike DG), is a good passer, plays good defense, he is use to being a role player, spent that past 2 years under a great coach in Kevin McHale, and lastly has playoff experience both with the Rockets and his European teams. We've got a winner!

I hope all this Oden talk is just part of one sick joke. Or maybe a ploy to get the Heat to waste what little money they have on a washed-up NBA player. No offense to Oden, but come on the guy hasn't played since 2009 and he underwent his 3rd(?) knee surgery last year. Marc Stein what have you been smoking that would make you think the Spurs would sign bad knees?

Let's move away from speculation and talk tangibles. I would like to read more articles on potential players, their stats, how they would fit with SA and help us win a championship.

Also, Manu is not leaving. I know it, you guys know it, the City of SA knows it...so let's move on to more important matters. For example, how are we going to convince R.C. Buford to sign Carlo Delfino because we all know Oden, Millsap, Ellis, and Gortat are not coming to SA.

1 year ago on Source: Rockets may look at Manu Ginobili

"...but a lackluster performance in the postseason may be hurting his chances at getting a bigger deal with the Spurs".

If I can piggy back off of The Grind, it was a small [playoffs (e.g., Golden State)] and Finals. Let's not forget, Split was a huge part of our journey through the West (is the best) where we have to post up against the likes of Dwight, Gasol(s), Griffin, McGee, Asik, Zebo, Perkins, and the list goes on. I hope Split sees that his appreciation will come all in good time. Sadly, we all know Duncan and Manu will retire soon ultimately raising the cap space ceiling. I also hope he sees that his best chance of becoming a champion is with the Spurs, not with the Suns haha. He is our future and knowing the Spurs, there will be no trade.

How about Carlos Delfino? He would be a great backup to Kawhi, he doesn't have to leave the state of Texas, and both he and Manu are from Argentina.
