@Knights2Leafs The Bruins never really manage their draft choices very well. Thornton gone to SJ and Sequin gone to Dallas and then Kessel flipped to Toronto.

Chara or not the Leafs will have to come out fast and furious and play the way the played against the 2nd game at Detroit. Leafs need to set the tone and the pace of the game and not allow the Bruins aggressive fore-checking. They need to be aggressive for 60 minutes. I'm tired of being "owned" by the Bruins. I would prefer Chara to be in the line up. If the Leafs lose tonight then we've got a problem.

Good game. I didn't like how they let he Islanders back in the third. Randy did the right thing by calling a time out and chiding his players. I think they will be well rested to go against Ottawa tomorrow and I not gong to accept faitque as an excuse tomorrow.

If Carlye were to be dismissed is Spott ready for head coaching duties? Is Spott a proponent of rolling all four lines?

If one realies on rolling three lines then injuries are going to mount when faitque catches up and the players will get more "stupid"

Disappointing loss tonight in an otherwise solid performance all around. One thing that bugged me was Kessels back checking - it's like if he has the puck he will pick up the speed but when he has to back check he's like oh shit now I have to skate back and he looks like a slouch when he does so. We are truly in need of a top six forward but they don't fall from trees.

@Bring the Cup Home I concur- I can't help but wonder if the leafs ever thought of converting Gardiner to a forward or a winger? he's such a good skater and good hands - plays like a forward and a winger. Sometimes I forget he is actually a defense man!

@Luke_R Reminds me of the Phaneuf trade we got from Calgary. Many people think that the trigger was pulled because of that game Saturday night while Toskala was laughing after the loss.

Truth is that trade was being worked on for three months before they pulled the trigger.

I'm sure as I type this there are some deals being hashed out that will not materialize for several weeks.

I'm just baffled in the mind set why Phanuef says on Tuesday night - we kept our feet moving and then last night decided to stop moving their feet. Way to lead by example.

He catches the puck - whiffs it - lets the Detroit player have it and coast around - doesn't even go man to man to knock him off the puck and the result is GOALLLLLL?

If Nonis is in Edmonton kicking the tires I hope it's not for Yaz. This guy was a bust for Edmonton and why should he suddenly become a good player? He went through two coaches (Tom..? and now Eakins) and there hasn't been an ounce of improvement at all. Waste of a trade. Someone tell Nonis that this analytic: "if he gets on the 11 AM flight he has a good chance of arriving to the Detroit game on time."

A bunch of pylon defense men were mostly responsible for tonight's clunker - they decided to take the night off and not skate at all. I find it baffling that Tuesdays work ethic was thrown out the window. The offense could not get the puck to generate much becaus nod defensive lapses in Judgemrnt. There were two goals that Reimer should have had. The only line that moved ffectivt was the Clarkson line.

I'm sure Leivio will be up tomorrow

@Doit4Dougie @gjdevlin Does that mean that Randy is regressing? Not good - not using your 4th line over games can start to wear out the 1 to 3 lines..Randy needs to learn to trust - also if the Rangers didn't use their 4th then Carlye won't use ours?

Solid outting for the Leafs - the third period they sat back a little bit and I would have liked to see a little more offense so they can work at it and carry it over to the next game.

Rolling all four lines makes a difference. Clarkson getting in opposing peoples faces does help. He's making a physical presense so there is no questioning Clarkson's work ethic.

There have been some dipsy doodles in the defensive zone when it comes to clearing it out and it is still a work in progress though. I always thought that Pat Quinn was one of the better coaches in that department.

I was thinking about the jersey on the ice situation and another article I read this morning by "he who must not be mentioned here" Mr. Berger and I'll stop there. In reading the article, I believe that Mr Berger is pointing out that we are overreacting and the fellow who threw the jersey is overrating. It's only two games people will say.

I disagree.

I don't think that the jersey fellow was overracting. He was simply making a statemenet that I can assume that most of us are making - we are NOT panicking.

The jersey guy and the rest of us (which I'm sure we share the same assumption) is that we are reacting to the same old problem we are seeing from last year as follows:

-getting outshot

-getting hemmed in our zone which leadsd to constant cycling and thus getting outshot.

-stupid turnovers.

-players (like Kessel) who seem to be sticking to their own mantra of rushing up the ice thus causing turnovers

-losing battles around the pucks.

-poor attempts to clear the puck out - lack of playing it off the glass.

The current coaches are trying to preach greater puck possession and patience but I'm not seeing it.

We have injected a core set of players that came from otherwise fairly successful teams - Kozun, Robidas, Polak, Percy. These players came from teams (Marlies, Anahiem, and St. Louis) that have done very well last year.

How is it possible for these players to suddenly adopt to the "shit the bed" system that Randy preaches?

Oh it's easy. Do it Randy's way.

Follow the pack mentality.

These players when they come here, they have to play with a nucleus of players from LAST year who still play the system and they are stuck fighting off the cycling that has been happening in their own zone.

It's like the trenches of the Russian front. New soldiers. Same system. One gun. You go in and you don't come back.

Had we lost to Pittsburgh 2-1 I'd be okay with that but 5-2? Something is wrong and something has to go.

I'm getting tired of Kessel's antics on the ice and tired of Randy's system.

Let's review:

Kessel barely skated in the summer. Plays golf and fishes. Comes to camp 15 lbs over weight in both areas the latter being the wallet.

Spott askes Kessel to execute a new offensive play.

Kessel refuses. He doesn't want to change the way he plays. He was in the box three times tonight - twice of his own stupidity. He skates up the ice and creates turn overs.

A lot of turn overs folks - a LOT. They are just not listening. Weeks mentioned that they were playing too much on the outside.?

They are not winning puck battles - we have several new players and they are following ONE new system - Randy's system and It. Doesn't. Work.

Outshot again - collapsing and giving the Penguins a lot of room.

Carlye will NOT last ten games trust me.

Clarkson seemed to be trying to get around - make something happen and get in front of the net.

I'd rather lose a few games now than collapse in the middle of the season. This way we can FIX what is happening now. Shanahan will not tolerate it. He's not stupid.

On to the next game.

I know we are fine tuning our team but being out shot 32 to 16 is cause for concern but give it more time I guess.

I did not watch the game but two goals on saw on the replays shows Reimer going to his knees deep in his net and not challenging the shot. I worry about that.

I do not believe that Nylander will be with the team this fall. I think they have already decided and have told him they are keeping him around to get him some NHL experience then send him back to Sweden. I'm 110% positive he will not be on the team and will be shocked if this happens.

Personally, he should be on loan to Morgan Rielly's WHL club or sent to the Marlies - to me - he's still too small but terrific skill. He does need North American experience as opposed to European.

Go Leafs!

The recent signings have really changed the dynamics of how the bottom six look - on paper they look great but we have to wait and see this fall which brings us another question to Leaf's management:

The next question is this - with Randy's inability (or refusal) to use the 4th line last year - is this the NEW group you want to trust in Randy's hands this fall?

I DON'T THINK SO!
