@Rhaegar_ @gjdevlin I agree. That's what bugs the hell out of me. The arrogance of assumption - this is a weak team therefore I don't have to play as hard. I played soccer in Burlington when I was a kid. I always played hard against opposing teams if they were good or bad. I was the only deaf  kid in the entire league - in one game, we were up 2-0 after I scored one goal. After the half, the coach put me on the sidelines for the entire 2nd half - without any explanation - and we got hammered 7-2. My mom and brother (brother being the soccer nut) was livid at the coach.

Hockey is such a funny game when it comes to the Leafs. Boston beats us down good and we turn around and throttle the Sabres yet Boston barely beats Buffalo 3-2 in OT last night? :-)

Looking at the chart the majority of Leaf shots were on the outside. They do need to get down and dirty in front of the net if they want to compete with Boston and Chicago

@Hmmm @gjdevlin Yeah - my beef with the Leafs is that they allow the OTHER team to dictate how they play and they don't up their ante when responding - "I like the way I skate and I make millions why change?" attidude won't work.

I'll be at the BBQ. You bring the steaks and I'll bring the beer.

I think I speak for all of us when we see the Leafs losing not because they suck - it's because of their EFFORT. They can do it but this weird entitlement attitude they have really grinds me.

Gardiner's play tonight won't work against Chicago this Saturday.

Didn't cheer a single goal because - one - the Sabres are terrible - so terrible that it looks like the Leafs continued to play their own freewheeling style of hockey by running around the Sabres at times - not all the times.

The Leafs were able to use their speed to get around the defenders which is good however I saw a lot of numerous sloppy passes.

Gardiner's goal while a beauty it is something the Leafs management don't want him to do - carrying it deep like a forward - he's suppose to stay back - this is the 2nd time I've seen him score that wrap around. It looked like he was all over the place.

Will tonight's effort work against the CBJ and more importantly Chicago?

We can only hope.

@MikeGartner11 @maple1967leafs If the Leafs want to get McDavid they have to flip some players for their 1st and that will NEVER happen - I don't think anyone is giving up their first this year because the draft is deep.

Tanking for McDavid is nonsense.

@ingy56 @gjdevlin Yes - speed is what will defeat the Bruins. This is what the Habs use very well. The Habs are not a physical team. Rolling all four speedy lines is the way to overwhelm the Bruins. The Leafs had speed but they put on roller blades last night.

The Robidas comment that the effort has to be better. I find it interesting. Polak, Robidas, Panik, Clarkson, Komorov and Kozun and Santorelli were playing respectively very well. I'm seeing effort from Clarkson and Winnik showing poise but these guys cannot do all the work. What's more these guys are fairly new to the team with the exception of Clarkson's bad season last year.

JVR, Phauef, Kadri, Bozak, Lupol and Gardiner are the by products of the Burke years are the hold outs and this core is where I'm seeing NO effort - no grit and no heart. There is no balance to the team.

I have no problems with the Riemer Bernier tandem. They are fine.

The fact that Robidas says "The effort has to be there" is that he came over with Polak from a fairly successful team last year - The Ducks and The Blues - I'm betting you that these two are looking around the locker room and saying, "Why are you guys playing lackluster hockey?"

I've said it before - I find it odd that the Leafs have competed fairly well against the Montreal Canadians yet when it comes to Boston, they seem uninterested. Yet the Habs skate circles around the Bruins push them out of the play offs and throttle them last week.

And the Leafs can't? Something is very wrong here. I'm not buying the excuse that "they are not good enough." Let me tell you something - if we flipped the Leafs for the Marlies for one night and threw them at the Bruins - I'm not saying they will win but you will see more snarl.

There was just NO snarl last night.

@Shafty yes pretty much. I was reading about NFL contracts a few weeks ago. That's why players go for the bonuses as much as they can. I think that if a player is cut after four games, he is paid for the rest of the season but not for the rest of the contract - whatever years he has left - but yup - NFL contracts are not guaranteed except for bonuses.

The New England Patriots have to pay the bonus to that guy convicted of murder last year (forgot his name) the bonus will be paid to his wife and kid. His contract was terminated.

Not a good 1st. We are rolling only 3 and a half lines against the Bruins four line machine. Carlye is being out coached tonight. Leafa need to be more aggressive on the forechecking for the 2nd and 3rd I'd they want to dent the Bruins offense

Looks like the Leafs are going with a 7th defence man tonight. I did not understand the concept until I saw the line up.

Basically it is like this( I think? )

player 1 player 2 player 3

player 4 player 5 player 6

player 7 player 8 player 9

player 10 player 11(borrowed double shifted forward from line 2 or 3)

player 1 player 2

player 2 player 3

player 4 player 5

player 6 EXTRA-DMAN

Forgive my niavette if I seem so behind but I'm learning the nuiances of behind the bench.

I really don't like this set up. It shows that Carlye has no faith in his own offensive 4th line and will double shift a forward into the 4th line minutes?

So by using a extra-seventh d-man it means he will clog up the zones and collaspe and all to send a big F you to upstairs management which has I think been trying to push him to roll the 4th line?

Thoughts? Thanks for your patience.

Chara or not the Leafs will have to come out fast and furious and play the way the played against the 2nd game at Detroit. Leafs need to set the tone and the pace of the game and not allow the Bruins aggressive fore-checking. They need to be aggressive for 60 minutes. I'm tired of being "owned" by the Bruins. I would prefer Chara to be in the line up. If the Leafs lose tonight then we've got a problem.
