@DeclanK I really like Horachek..I'd like to see him stick around in some capacity next year..he got a raw deal with this group.
1 day, 23 hours ago on Game 76 Scoring Chances: Maple Leafs 4 vs. Senators 3 (OT)
@Yan28 Senators will be more hungry next time around...
Gotta give credit where credit is due to Bozak. He had a good game and got the opportunities. And good on him for carting around the little guy - the star of the game - Garret Gamble!
However all things aside - I'm still critical of him - why have a great game tonight and not the others? He doesn't have to score every night but he should be in beast mode trying to make things happen - getting physical and battling hard for the puck. He's gotta do that all the time - it's not a part time job.
This season cannot end fast enough though.
@Hammertownleaffan Wow tough call..Bernier hasn't been doing well and Riemer has been okay but he's 7/15 this year..it's hard to fault the goalies when they are not motivated or inspired by lacklustre forwards coughing up the puck all the time and being pounded 45 shots on many nights.
I'm inclined to lean to Bernier and Gibson as a backup if we can get a good return on Riemer...
2 days, 10 hours ago on Saturday Mashup: 3rd overall within reach, Cameranesi with 2-pt game in UMD regional semifinal win
@Hammertownleaffan @gjdevlin I'm inclinded to Babcock too but what can he bring to the table to get the players playing a system - and what is his system?
@zoidbergman God bless little Garret Gamble. Thomas Murray go fuck yourself.
Coaches: it is the worse kept secret if Babcock signs in Toronto. San Jose Sharks coach, Todd McLellan, if fired, remains a possibility if the Leafs were to pursue. That said which one would you prefer? What are their philosophies - what will each coach do to push the players? How will Babcock or McLellan deal with the uncoachble Kessel if he were still present?
@Burtonboy @gjdevlin I was reading on the prospects leaft sites and Nylander is 8.0 while others are 7.0 and 6.5. We are truly thin in the top 6 in all forward categories. Defensively I'm not worried it's the forwards...that's what we get when management trades for shortcuts over the years. Hope this stops for good. I'm sure Shanahan is frustrated at the prospect cupboards and wants to stock up and put a stop to silly short cuts.
Why isn't Josh Levio called up or sticking around longer? With the Leafs on the rebuild next year, do you think he will be a permanent fixture on the team in the fall?
@BPsotka @gjdevlin @Burtonboy Ahh I see - i was going to ask about Nylander but you pretty much answered the question to go with Burtonboy - thanks.
@wiski @gjdevlin only on the ice for the public to see
@Burtonboy @gjdevlin Sorry I'm confused - you have to be 20 to be in the AHL? I thought you had to be 18 or 19. I did not realize there is an exact age bracket...
Wow..okay then maybe another year in jr....well.. here's the scenario..if the Leafs do draft him (IF IF) and we cobble a really crappy unit next year - ie no one is moved out then maybe he's better off staying in junior for another year lest this group poison him.
2 days, 11 hours ago on Saturday Mashup: 3rd overall within reach, Cameranesi with 2-pt game in UMD regional semifinal win
@HHT @phaneufoundlander I never NEVER liked Bozak. He's just a pansy with pretty hands. When we signed him to that 4 year deal I rolled my eyes. Four more years of a soft center.
@Hollandaise @traNsplantEdneWfie I wouldn't call Rielly small - he's got a solid body and hits when he can. Nylander is what worries he - he needs to fill out.
Kadri has filled out - I think he's at 195 but he doesn't show his physical prescience at times like he used to in London.
@HHT @traNsplantEdneWfie I finally got the chance to really watch McD - his hand eye cordination is eye popping - he can knock passes out of the air more than anyone else I've seen - really impressive. His positioning is sound and his skating is really solid. The only concern i have is that he seems to lack a physical prescene but I could be wrong.
I also liked his media presence - he presents himself in front of the camera - this kid has captain written all over him for any team he joins.
Making the jump from OHL to NHL..I dunno. I would give him games in the AHL though...
@Zep2 I like Gauthier's slow and steady development. He's not busting out of the gate - I haven't seen him play except the World Juniors where he played 3 and 4th line minutes. He wasn't dominating but he did make his presence felt. I heard his skating is getting better and don't forget - he's a big, big man. Does he use his body?
@B_Leaf @gjdevlin thats crap..a computer?
4 days, 11 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Bailey set to debut, Marlies within a point of playoffs, lottery date set
@hometeem @theselfishsloth @B_Leaf year after year the Oils have thrown their draft picks to the wolves - into the NHL in their first season - and they have ZIP to show for it.
4 days, 12 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Bailey set to debut, Marlies within a point of playoffs, lottery date set
@hometeem @gjdevlin @B_Leaf if you mean the lottery? They use bouncing balls..thats hard to 'fix'
@B_Leaf how is the draft fixed?
@B_Leaf as it stands we are 4th..can we drop to 3rd in the lottery?
@hometeem @gjdevlin I've always liked JVR and his big body - those are hard to come by. He's good at muscling pass defenders and jamming into the net. I've noticed that when he's not with Kessel on the line he seems better. Maybe it's because he's playing "twice" to make up for Kessels weak defensive efforts.
@HHT @gjdevlin @Buds Mackenzie pipe dream :-) but I would shit my pants if we landed him. Stromme would be nice but both will be gone quickly...
Can the Leafs move up a spot in the lottery 4th to 3rd?
@Zep2 I think it goes both ways. I've always felt that if you play a solid defensive game then you've got a happy goalie. If you play defensively like crap and the goalie gets hammered then the goalie can get flustered. I mean it's one thing if the goalie gets hammered in shots in excess of 45 then the next few nights it settles down to 25 to 30 but if the the goalie gets hammered in shots every night - 40 to 45 a night then the goalie is going to start thinking - what's wrong with you guys - I'll stop the shots yeah but you've got to cut them down.
@Buds Mackenzie I would prefer that the Habs be stunned. :-) (middle finger)
@hometeem @gjdevlin yeah O'Niel is right--you can't be doing the drinking shit all the time. I mean having a bottle of beer after the game then to bed who cares - it's drinking to the point that it warps your physically for the next game.
I completely agree about what he said about Kessel poking around the corner instead of barging in and digging and pushing for the puck. That board battle mentality of "poking" and hoping for a lose puck apparently has rubbed off on Bozak - if Kessel is doing that then I'm doing that too. It's gotta stop which is why I want Bozo gone this summer. I just NEVER liked him. Pretty hands but that's it.
@hometeem @gjdevlin I'm not sure what you mean - can you elaborate - you mean as in "just play hockey and stop over analyzing?"
@NinetyThree I agree. Bernier didn't allow 50 shots hit him in the first place. I prefer to keep Bernier. Hope we work out a reasonable deal with him. Like I've said before, management and us fans need to preach patience - we are not taking short cuts here.
I do wonder if the AHL goalie (ugh I forgot the name) could be a good back up if Reimer is moved?
love the article about Jeff O'Niel and he's harped on the same thing that I was bitching and moaning about - Kadri comparing himself to Tavares. Fuck off. Kadri needs to get his head out of the cat litter box.
Toews is good - turned out great
1 week ago on Dylan Strome wins the OHL scoring title
No - it makes you play harder then when the cage comes off you play less ggressive because the cage is your safety net
I dunno but we have guys on D coming up right? Unless I'm mistaken? I would love to flip Kessel and Bozak for draft picks this June but I think with how deep and good the picks areindoubt anyone will give up their slots - maybe next year first and a prospect. We have to rebuild and stock up
Much as I like Hannifn I think the Leafs would be better off in landing a forward or a winger because we are deep at D. JVR told his brother to try and go somewhere else because of the depth at D.
I would prefer a forward but am leery of picking it signing college players because Boazk is a wimp and so is Kessel - both out of college.
Eichel is also a college player but I'm not sold on him. Was impressed with Strome and watched the game yesterday.
It's thise college boys and their cages where they have it safe and sometimes give me pause when they are jumping from college to NHL.
Just want a good player though.
That bad huh? 18 teal a are lining up to sign him I wonder what's the hype
1 week, 1 day ago on Game 73 Scoring Chances: Senators 5 vs. Maple Leafs 3
What's the scouting report on Kyle Baum - his grandpa was a Leaf player - will the Leafs sign him? (Not his grandpa of course)
Wow - come on many of us think we will land McDavid? I want him but the reality of that happening are two words slim and none.
1 week, 2 days ago on GDT: Game #73, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators (7 p.m., HNIC)
@Xxxxxnew The draft pick of Morgan had me worried a bit and I got more worried when they wanted him to stay on the Leafs but he turned out to be solid defender and his knee isn't hurting him. Love watching Morgan skate.
1 week, 3 days ago on Game 72 – SJS 4, TOR 1 – An even worse start for Toronto
If we were to draft a D this spring then I'm sure we are going to see the exact same core of lazy forwards this fall and it is going to be hard to root for this core again.
The junior team remark by Bernier was spot on - the Leafs had - and NEVER had - any interest in pushing for a net presence. Last night, Ray Emery slashed Joe Colbourne because he was pretty much up against him - the guy we traded for and "gave up" on. Joe is doing pretty decently too.
The Leafs just seem content to throw pucks at the net and don't engage physically at all. The likes of Bozak and Kessel. (sigh)
Gardiner looked woefully out of position so many times. On to the next loss on Thursday.
2 weeks ago on GDT: Game #71, Toronto Maple Leafs at Edmonton Oilers (9:30 p.m., SN)
I don't wanna tank next year. I just wanna compete. Sigh.
stopped trusting the Leafs two years ago. Stopping cheering their goals
because I just can't trust how they play the game ever since the
"collapse" in Boston. I'm just waiting for management to build that
solid core again - the days when we had Sundin Tucker and Roberts. The
days of Gilmour and Andreychuck. The days of Sittler, McDonald and
Salming. I miss those days and those coaches. I can take the few blow
outs but when we lost in those days we lost hard because we competed.
a story about the collapse. It was about three weeks after my nephews
funeral and he had passed away at 18 so emotions were still raw. I had
flown from Arizona to Buffalo to the funeral in Smithville.
back in Arizona and watching the collapse unfold, I knew it was going
to get bad. After the 2nd goal, the Leafs starting playing with
desperate measures by collapsing around the net and the Bruins let them
have it, came back and won. I just knew it was going bad.
I went outside and battered a picnic table with a tiki torch for a good
half hour and even throwing the table around. Just had to let it out.
haven't lost my temper since then over the Leafs since then but
watching them for the last two years still makes my blood boil because
of their level of incompetence, their lackluster approach. I've been
waiting for a rebuild since then and now I'm happy we are doing it but
disappointed that the players don't uphold the Blue and White
I'm looking for them to hire a firm strong
coach - Babcock or whatever - a coach that knows how to manage prissy
players and bench them when he has to. I want a strong management that
hows how to squeeze the necks of entitled thinking players. I want them
to ice a team of believers and achievers - they don't have to be super
stars. They just have to have solid "on base percentages".
Bring on summer. Bring on the rebuild.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on GDT: Game #70, Toronto Maple Leafs at Vancouver Canucks (7 p.m., CBC)
The bottom five of all NHL teams (Toronto to Buffalo) they are all on losing streaks. The way I see it the Leafs will finish no lower than 4th.
@zoidbergman @zombie27 @gjdevlin but don't you want another 1st before the draft?
2 weeks, 2 days ago on GDT: Game #69, Toronto Maple Leafs at Calgary Flames (8 p.m., SN)
@Xxxxxnew He came to camp 15 lbs over weight right?
@zombie27 @gjdevlin yeah I wish I was that lucky with the money.
@vinoa @zoidbergman @Jmessih @gjdevlin but I live in Arizona..:-)
@zoidbergman we can trade him any time. Lets say the Kings offered their 1st tomorrow - we say yeah so Kessel is gone - and the Kings make the playoffs - Kessel cannot play in the playoffs.
Well..well...well what do you know. I go over to play with the lottery simulator - for the first time mind you and: ( I hope I'm your new best friend )
@Cameron19 @leafmealone @gjdevlin No to Vanek. Not sold on his attitude.
@Cameron19 @gjdevlin @docmma @Zep2 wow..Stamkos hasn't sold out Tampa games? I thought Tampa was doing well financially?
