@Uncle Otis Shanahan is NOT a fan of fighting..dislikes it so I think the leafs will play an uptempo game with a lot of speed which is my philosopy of the game but with some grit. If there's a few problems Fratlin or Komorov can step in...
1 month, 4 weeks ago on Troy Bodie re-signed to one-year deal by the Maple Leafs
@Armchair GM I would rather he play in NA this fall with Marlies or whatever to get back to playing on NA ice as opposed to International.
2 months ago on Mike Santorelli signed by the Maple Leafs to 1-year, $1.5 million contract
@Jordan29 What is Clarkson doing over the summer for conditioning and skating?
@mr_hanie on paper Carlye could throw our fourth line against the third line and spread out the minutes giving our 1st line more time to recharge between shifts...
The recent signings have really changed the dynamics of how the bottom six look - on paper they look great but we have to wait and see this fall which brings us another question to Leaf's management:
The next question is this - with Randy's inability (or refusal) to use the 4th line last year - is this the NEW group you want to trust in Randy's hands this fall?
I DON'T THINK SO!
Sounds like a decent signing..if we were to make a trade on Reimer and or Franson or both - I would guess we would try to get a defence man?
@Mattmark @gjdevlin You need to have kids! :-)
2 months ago on James Reimer Opts for Salary Arbitration
@chandler "he has the rebound control of a bouncy castle." (dying..) :-)
@theacs1966 @gjdevlin I don't know why we are not working to fill in Orr's space...we really need to up the 4th line. I would be surprised to see Orr back in the fall.
2 months ago on Petri Kontiola Signs with Maple Leafs on a 1-year, $1.1 million deal
@hoolihan @gjdevlin Not if it's Timmies!
If Kontiola works out and Fratlin ups his game and Clarkson goes on a tear to make up for his first lousy season then Nonis could end up looking like a fucking genius...
Kontiola looks good. Hope he's got a mean streak in him like Komorov.
I love it that we are the 1/30 odds next year - I would love to have this rag tag bunch go all the way and prove everyone wrong. It's not about dollars - it's about pieces.
With some cap space left there might be another bonafide player to fall into our lap this fall.
Someone said that the Flyers are over the cap? Why not trade Holland to Philly for Simmons? :-)
@ProfessorRance @mcloki @ingy56 @Bruffins wait! There's more!

@TheCanucksnaphook @Cameron19 @NinetyThree on paper the 4th line does look sick...
@ProfessorRance @ingy56 @TheCanucksnaphook "please, may I shoot you?" "oh okay."
@Mind Bomb @gjdevlin @ingy56 @Dewy Keon Hogturd we need solid centers on each line so Randy can roll all four and stop making excuses...
@ingy56 @gjdevlin @Mind Bomb @Dewy Keon Hogturd If the price is right then we might be a steady dependable center with experience which is what we need.
I think he'll be good for us.
@Mind Bomb @Dewy Keon Hogturd Is Legwand Healthy?
@Cameron19 The Bruins have gotten weaker...
@Hifi75 I've been wanting Brayden since he was in the Kings organization but the Flyers locked him up..recently..:-(
@mike_84 @gjdevlin Yeah he does need to bulk up though...
I wonder if Kadri is bulking up and training this summer?
Moving on from Bozak then. :-) Nylander..it seems he wants to make it a goal of making the Leafs this fall. I doubt it. Management seems "maybe" on this but I see him with the Marlies...
Any chance we can flip Bozak? He's weak and doesn't want to battle along the boards...and does not want to hit.
Now the hubbub over FA signings and lack of for a better word, I would say that our roster is pretty much 90% set in stone. There are a few things the Leafs can do this coming fall without breaking the bank.
Bottom line is this - coming up this fall - this is a fragile group of players, coaches AND management. They know that Leaf nation is laughing at them and the rest of the NHL is looking down on this team in a way that says - "man we feel sorry for you but hey we're gonna feast on you easily for two points"
1. Call up those in the Marlies. For heaven's sake, we fans and management have to stop looking for short cuts and start playing our youngsters some more. Bring up Lievo and Carrick and whomever - let them play. Let them play through their mistakes.
2. Hold Carlyle more accountable for the actions on ice. Discipline players by benching them if they don't perform to the standards of being a Maple Leaf. Encourage the assistant coaches to speak out when discussing things with Carlye - stop depending on veterans - unleash the dogs and roll all four lines.
3. If Riemer is going to stay - make him happy somehow - work with Carlye to watch his mouth in press conferences - even if your goalie sucked on a few goals - talk to him and encourage. Don't disparage him on the bench during games. Don't pull people down when they are working up towards their goals - don't be such an asshole all the time. That type of behavior can have a ripple effect on the bench in games.
4. I work in IT and have a great boss who has an open door - we go in and say hi all the time. She's awesome and fair. I expect that of Carlye and all two assistant coaches - I don't know how it is in Randy's locker room. The coach is not going to be your best friend or dad but he's also responsible for putting forth a good morale.
5. Get Dione to speak up more. To be more vocal. I've noticed he has regressed with his on ice persona and he's almost invisible personality wise.
6. If you don't have a sense of humor I don't think you should be playing hockey.
Are Carrick and McKegg ready to make the jump this fall? How good are they? Can anyone break them down?

Whew -- the Maple Leafs cupboard was practically stripped bare.
Drew Mac is gone and Bolland hauled his ass off to Florida. I think he wanted 8 million to replace the income he could earn in the states - taxes.
The way it is - it's time for the Leafs to pull up the Marlies - Leivo, Holland, etc and let them play.
And you know what - I think the Leafs should get rid of Carlye and let Steve Spott coach the Leafs this fall - this way the new Marlies can respond to him.
Then again - I probably don't know what I'm talking about but this is frustrating for us Leaf fans. We know we don't want over paid bums like Vanek and Statsny.
The way we lost draft picks via Bolland and he walks and that there is no solid sense of what upper management plans to do in terms of strengthening our team is frustrating all of us.
@hometeem @gjdevlin @Loric76 @Murph2417 @Reversethecurse13 but lets say the leafs refuse the arbitrator's salary recommendation?
2 months ago on Dave Nonis Free Agent Day Media Address
@Loric76 @Murph2417 @Reversethecurse13 So we can trade him any time basically? If we refuse to meet the arbituator's salary for him then he becomes a UFA?
Either way, he's going to walk. No other team is in a hurry to sign him.
That sums up our day plus I think I'm the first guy to get him to smile.
A defense man with two broken legs?
Nonis just traded all of us to Montreal for their fan base.
Happy that Leo is back. Unsure about Frattlin but I think it is about size as D'Amigo is smaller but no slouch. Signing a guy with two broken legs. I don't know. I'm disappointed that Bolland left but I'm glad that we did not over pay him - I would have prefered to sign Bolland 16 mill over four years.
However, there are some key pieces that I think the Leafs should have been more aggressive on such as D. Moore or even Matt Moulson - if Nonis is fired at the end of the day so be it. He's still a lame duck and is working very hard to make a carbon copy of last years team.
In a nutshell - this is what Nonis has done today.
Signed a defenceman with two broken legs.
Brought back Matt Frattlin who has an attidude problem.
Kept the coach who likes to collapse around the net and thinks it's the greatest system in the world.
The only good thing is bringing back Komorov.
Ooooooh - I'm on pins and needles for the fall...(sigh)
2 months ago on Maple Leafs sign Stephane Robidas to 3-year, $9-million deal
@TuckerForPunishment @MaxwellHowe @ShiftyD Who is he really and are his tweets valid information?
2 months ago on Maple Leafs’ Tim Gleason to be bought out
@MaxwellHowe @ShiftyD I don't know..is HopeSmoke the biggest complainer or what?
@reenergized @Loric76 I don't know much about Gorges...is he any good?
If we are indeed a long way off from icing a championship team then Statsny will not come here anyway. I would not sign him 7 mill..he's just part of a bigger ensemble we truly need and will not be able to fill in. IE Pittsburgh has Malkin and Crosby - a great tandem and we just don't have that - yet - Kadri is not at that level and Kessel is the "lone wolf"
Remember we had a hard time finding that ONE good center/winger to go with Matts...
We had Dougie and Co back then.
I would suggest culling together lower priced UFA's with character and combine them with our new Marlie graduates and make a run like the Bad News Bears.
@LeafsGuru I'm deaf and he did indeed say what is said but the tape could ave been edited and he's not addressing phanuef
I think we should hunker down a bit and pluck at least one of the three available "C"s if possible and stuff him down the farm for a year.
I was thinking about Riemer a bit. If we do retain him as back up, remember, Carlye's "buddies" are gone so it will no longer be 3 against 1 - he will have two new coaches to bolster him if Randy goes sour on him - remember - Randy IS the odd man out if he's not listening to his two assistant coaches.
Josh Leivio, Peter Holland and Smith will probably make the jump to plug in a few holes in the 3rd and 4th lines. Maybe Jerry D'Amico to the 4th line.
If Dan Boyle joins us as a UFA next week I think he will be a nice addition at a reasonable price?
I expect the Leafs to be low key in this draft and heading into the UFA's. I would be shocked if we landed Statsny but I don't think it will happen. This is a weak draft and UFA year.
What if we signed Brad Richards for a two year deal at 1.5 per? He would add some veteran presence and might be motivated to recharge himself and prove the Rangers wrong.
Honestly, I expect the starting lineup to be at least 85% of what we had last year.
Either way - go Leafs go!
2 months ago on Nick Ritchie Q&A with Peterborough Petes head coach Jody Hull
@mike_84 @gjdevlin Not too stoked to trade for Eckblad..if we give up Phanuef for Eckblad, great but that's not happening..it would cost us key pieces and those pieces are the corner stone of our future. We've given up too many prospects.
2 months, 1 week ago on Toronto Maple Leafs News & Notes
In all my years of following the off season moves, this is the worst season where I have ZERO confidence in what Leafs management will do in the next two weeks.
I don't expect a block buster trade and nor do I want one - if there is one - it has to be sensible for the right pieces.
I'm not 100% invested in signing and overpaying Paul Statsny and the fact that the Leafs are retaining Carlye while rearranging the deck chairs...
I have a feeling that this is pretty much the core we are going with this fall with mostly Holland and Smith making the jump to fill in Ranger and Mason.
I'm leery of flipping for Eckblad who just might not perform well in training camp and then be sent back down for a season.
I just view Nonis as someone who is just isn't a hockey guy. I just can't shake that.
@Xxxxxnew They got McIntyre who can back up this year and saving more money on the cap. Riemer just may be too unhappy to want to stick around. So McIntyre will serve as a stop gap while other goalie prospects continue to develop.
Sometimes we just have to cut our losses like Kuleminn if that were to happen.
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Toronto Maple Leafs’ Powerplay: Room For Improvement
@Pent_House @gjdevlin I don't think they are going to qualify him this year...they may let him walk.
Honestly I know the season has just ended and trade and draft talks are heating up - the fact that the Leafs are keeping Carlye around just leaves me with the feeling that they are going to stand pat again this draft. I don't trust the Leaf's management.
I don't want them to go out and make a splash - I want them to acquire quality pieces if they can.
Just go in and pluck the drafts and shove them down the farm or AHL to continue to develop.
I do not believe that the Leafs will trade Phanuef this summer. I will be shocked if this happens.
Kulemin will walk and one of the boys will come up from the AHL to take his spot.
And the fact is that no one wants Reimers rights tells me he's going to walk and we will lose him for nothing. Nothing we can do about it.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but I think the Leafs struggles will continue with the current lame duck management and practically 90% of the players tuned Randy out last spring - what's going to change this fall?
Many FA's don't want to come here.
Is Spott a nice asshole?
When I mean a nice asshole I mean the type of guy or coach who will rip the player a new one in the locker room and call him for a total fuck wad he is if he doesn't battle the corners. A coach who is quick to praise and encourage but to nail entitled asses to the fucking bench if THEY DON"T DO THEIR FUCKING JOB!
That's what I FUCKING WANT TO SEE! Not a coach who goes, I don't know what happened (whimper, whine). I want a coach that says, I FUCKING KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND I'M GOING A SHOVE A KOHO STICK WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE AND THE BLADE IS SLASHING AGAINST THE LAZY FUCKERS CHICLETS - you follow me you fucking pansies?!?!?

@Waiting4LSC I would agree - I would prefer that RC goes but what can we do so we gotta go with the flow..Franson's gone for sure I bet...
I just wanted to offer a bit of insight into the RC extension. I was not too happy but this is what we have to go with. Players are on the ice and they are pretty much accountable for their actions and during the collapse we have seen some players not perform the way they should regardless of the coach. They are hockey players.
That said - firing RC sends the message to the players - "We will find someone for you guys so you can continue to suck your mother's tits." By keeping RC - the message to the players is clear - WE (MLHS) run the show. Not you. "You either play the way we coach our system or you can go suck your grandma's tits"
Secondly, this will trigger a round of trades and waivers. Some players are going to be cut loose regardless of value. One trade I predict will happen is Lupol. Riemer will probably walk or flipped for rights. Kulemin will probably walk for nothing. Bottom line is this - a player shake up is coming.
The Leafs are going to have to suck it up and let some players go or risk over valuing them
However - a note to Randy - you must change your system - get the players to battle hard along the boards and the corners.
Don't be a pussy and bench the lazy fuckers.
Or your gone.
With your toaster.
@whalz I don't see the Leafs landing Statsny at all. I think he resigns with Colorado.
