@Optimustic @lilgrnmen17 Yep, loved Seigel's article on Leafs past decade, what a debacle, a reset is truly needed for this organization. Hopeful Shanny move is the beginning of better days ahead.

@Mitch92 @lilgrnmen17 Perhaps, for me it was the total whiff on the Clarkson contract, total misread of where the organization was as a whole.

I have to admit I like the way they are dropping down the standings, but man they are tough to watch these days. Excited for the trade deadline and draft, hopefully they do the right thing and start rebuilding. Surely Nonis is gone this summer, so why not replace him before deadline? Have to assume Shanny has the hammer on any decisions

Caution, remove all sharp objects, prescription drugs, and firearms before reading Siegel's article. It's gonna make you cry.

I am guilty of thinking the improved depth at the bottom of the roster could improve the overall quality of this team to cover up some its warts, but I was obviously very wrong. I am now on the side of tear it down I think. Tired of seeing the same story line over and over again, then they peddle Carlyle (or any player) out there to answer questions and he looks totally lost, like he has no answers, and that is apparently true, he can't seem to manage this group effectively. Players have their role too undoubtedly.

Time for a reset here I think, seems Shanny's path is set, let's see what he decides to do. I hope they continue to fall off a playoff pace so it makes trade deadline day decisions easier.

That's unfortunate, I really like Siegel and his writing, don't like his response on this. Phil gives the worst interviews, as do most athletes who are well trained in saying nothing when they speak, and Phil hates talking to the media, can't say I blame him, especially in TO.

Thanks Anthony, great read as always. Liked how you modified the stats, much more insightful I think.

Haven't been able to watch many games (game time is 1:30 in Prague, haha), but without a doubt line 3 has been the best in the games I have watched. Gotta let the Clarkson salary issue drop, yes it sucks, but he's here for better or worse (salary wise), so need to get the best out of him for what he is, and that line seems to work for him.

RC has to figure out line 4, they need to play to develop and alleviate some pressure off the other lines. Feels like RC is coaching scared for his job, not what is best for the Leafs long-term, a lot of assets (Carter, Holland, Frattin?) withering on the vine.

Wow, glad to see I was wrong about Orr (for now), still no faith in RC, but there appears to be a glimmer of hope in the future, which is all we as Leaf fans can really ask for.

@Mcost61 @lilgrnmen17 If RC gets fired this year, which I expect he will, I think that will be a great step in the right direction for this organization. Painful to watch him mismanage the roster, thinks he's managing the Ducks.

6 months ago on Wednesday Mashup: Bye Bye Carter?

Reply

Utterly shameful if they lose Ashton for peanuts. You can't play a guy 6 minutes a night and expect him to produce, then turn around and dump him because he is not producing. Asset management in this organization is abysmal. I really liked the Winnik signing and the thought of icing a 4th line, but I am worried this year will look a lot like last year.

6 months ago on Wednesday Mashup: Bye Bye Carter?

Reply

The line-up the Leafs had, and the way RC handed out ice time (4th line issues again), and the fact that won in SO and were soundly outshot, frankly that's not good enough, even if it is pre-season and the vets aren't going hard. Definite sense of apprehension about the season, in particular with RC at the helm.

Unbelievable, wow, they have even managed to suck the hope out of next year for me already. The question of "Who's better than Carlyle?" is totally irrelevant, the question should be "Who's better for the Leafs than Carlyle?"; answer: most anyone right now. This just makes no sense, totally disgusted by this decision. Was hoping Shanny would see the light.

10 months, 3 weeks ago on Randy Carlyle staying on as Maple Leafs Head Coach

With the playoffs out of view and Lupul's injury, surely some of the kids will see some minutes, notably Carter.

What a crazy season in terms of personnel decisions, both on-ice and off (e.g. Clarkson contract); I am ok with Nonis for a bit, despite outrageous Clarkson deal, but RC has to go, and I agree with AP, changing forward group is critical. Reimer was totally mishandled, and his value is pretty limited right now I expect; sure Bernier was great, but total mismanagement of assets. Grabo was also totally miscast and run out of town via RC. Fourth line was non-existent, sign Mclaren and Orr and not play them and not replace them. A lot of young guys missed some serious NHL development time too. Frustrating year all around. Nonis certainly deserves some blame, but I see this as RC's mess.

I'd like to see Kule stay at a reasonable price, but if Bolland wants anything north of $4 million, which sounds like he'll get it, then he surely can't stay; Bodie was also a cheap, pleasant surprise. The outs are obvious I think with Raymond, Reimer, Franson most notable.

@dontcallmeshirley @Cameron19  It's not a matter of "better", less stubborn would probably do because things haven't been working with this group from day 1, yet there has been little change in the approach of this team. And this no playing the 4th line or kids, wtf? Leafs are at a stage where they should be developing kids, RC was coaching for his job from Day 1 of this season I believe. Seems it didn't help though, buh-bye RC.

Surely Carlyle is done, I just don't think this guy is the right coach for this team. The roster seems largely set for the foreseeable future, so let's get a coach with a philosophy that matches the talents and personalities.

Great job as always Andy. Ranger is really coming around, I was ready to give up on him earlier, but he definitely seems to be adjusting. Smith looked very good last week too, perhaps in a little more offensive role better suited to his skills. 1 game sample for Holland, not much to say except he wasn't noticed in a bad way and he won 7 of 11 draws, nice start.
