@dlb Mad @Darkside Beleafer It's possible the scouting report iswrong.  It's just The Hockey News, so who knows.  @drummond, I wouldn't consider JVR great in his own zone.  Much of our top 6 seemed to lack commitment to team D.

@Darkside Beleafer @Glove Dropper Good question. Big part of the D problem last year was lazy forwards not doing their part in their own zone.

SCOUTING REPORT

Assets:Creativity is the name of his game. Is shifty and a very capable playmaker. Can line up at all three forward positions, though center is clearly his best position.Flaws:Is lacking in defensive acumen, which limits his overall effectiveness at the NHL level. Also lacks the size to win puck battles in the corners.Career Potential:Skilled but undersized depth playmaker.

By my count we need a #2 winger, a big #3/4 C, and a #4 winger (Broll? Bodie?)  On D it sure does look like Franny is gone, perhaps for a LH D?

3 weeks ago on Maple Leafs sign Stephane Robidas to 3-year, $9-million deal

It's interesting to me where the line is between mismanaging an asset (not getting enough/anything for gunnarsson, kulemin, etc) vs giving up on youth/potential too soon (steen, alex).  I'm sure the time to trade gunner was probably a couple years ago, but at that time you're still seeing potential growth, so how do you know when to give up on it?

@lukethenuke I think most scouting reports I read thought he'd be a winger at the next level.  I think maybe he played mostly wing this year??

Not buying Uncle Drew as a backup in the bigs.  Watching the marlies game now and with all the saves he's making there have been several huge scrambles where he's either not been able to control rebounds or not been able to control where he's sliding.  In the NHL opposing teams make you pay for sliding way out of your net.
