@dlb eh @wendelsway1 If we HAD to keep 1 I'd take McC simply because he gets paid less. Both of them are a waste of a roster space and cap space. I'd prefer to dump them both.

@unclejakescards Giordano for sure. Not sure about Glencross. Also would depend on what it meant to current roster.
1 week, 2 days ago on AP’s Mailbag: Defensive question marks, playoffs, Kulemin, Franson and expiring deals
This is tough. If we want to head into playoffs with our best chance of winning you gotta think we want McClement and Franson in the line up. McClement we may have to just let walk come summer. Raymond I think we should trade now because there is no way we get him back at a reasonable rate. We have young guys who can fill the roles of any forwards we'd lose. I would keep Bolland, he is a playoff warrior and we will need a guy like him.
Hopefully they can work something out with Kuli. He's the ideal bottom 6 guy and can backfill in a 3-5 spot short term. Maybe they can convince him by giving him a slightly lower number than 2.8 but giving him an extra year or two on term? 5 years at 11 -12 mil or something like that?
I would pkg Franson with another piece if we could get a solid Dman in return though.
What a prick that Kane is. He was the face I remember laughing so fucking hard at Kessel being the last guy picked at the all star game. I wanted to punch him in the throat.

@The Truth Hurts I'm with Don Corleone "...I want to congratulate you on your new business and I'm sure you'll do very well and good luck to you. Especially since your interests don't conflict with mine. Thank you."

@Anthony Petrielli @DeclanK The answer here is to fucking fire Carlyle and hire Babcock. We have the tools to make a really legit bottom 6 and Carlyle has no fucking idea other than to dress 2 face punchers every night. Bolland between Clarkson and someone like Raymond is a great 3rd line. McClemment or Holland with D'Amigo and Bodie could be a solid 4th line. We could get offense from all 4 lines and actually get some of that secondary scoring RC keeps longing for.
Bottom line, I really hate Carlyle and I am totally biased... /rant

@Rick_Vaives_slapshot he gives up a goal every fucking game. As much as we need a right handed D and he's shown signs of being really good... I'd pkg him up with something and try to get a quality right D in return.

@Anthony Petrielli @wendelsfist Start writing to demote Orr and McClaren. I don't care if they are good guys or if they have been in the league a long time. They have to go, in the name of progress. I'll take a loss in every fight we have if it means more offense and more WINS.

@mcloki @rickpearce76 @mr_hanie Yeah Carlyle. I shoulda tried in DC, wouldn't hurt me to be banned from that arena.
@Alec Brownscombe on the same day those 2 will be demoted and carlyle and nonis will be fired.
@mr_hanie I would love to punch him right in the face.
@Burtonboy Everyone is saying this all over town. My question/point it... that's pretty much the coach's only job in the NHL. If mgmt recognizes this then they MUST do something.
I was at the game in DC on Friday night. Met some other members of leafs nation there who had made the drive down. Pretty awesome experience. Kinda sad to say it but the game experience far surpasses the ACC. The brass has to figure out some way to collect the big corporate dollars and still let fans sit in the lower bowl.
A huge part of the problem is Carlyle's insistence on dressing Orr and McClaren as often as possible. Neither one of them belongs in the NHL. We do not need a "fighter". If someone must fight at least make it someone like Clarkson who can offer something else. If we could dump those 2 plugs we could put together a 4th line capable of giving us 9-10 decent minutes a night, maybe even the odd goal. It would allow us to use McClemment in a role fitting for him. It would also allow us to develop a 3rd line that could be a bit more offensive. Small sample size for Holland but I'd be willing to bet that with Raymond and Kuli that the line would produce enough to make a difference. This all falls square on Carlyle. His loyalty to the fighters is dragging down a lot of things.
Carlyle has to go. I'm done with him. At this point I am almost done with Nonis for not having the sac to fucking make him do something about it.
I'm pretty sure now that Leiweke is done with TFC that he'll be paying closer attention to the leafs. Neither of those guys is safe IMHO.
@CanuckUKinToronto @rickpearce76 @peterbleafs I do agree about depth in terms of prospects. I guess more so my point was about NHL level talent today. We do as an org have depth at D but it is not like we can run out and move a lot of it because we also still have a need there.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Game in 10: Game #21: Leafs 5 vs. Islanders 2
@CanuckUKinToronto @peterbleafs Not to be a naysayer, but I think it's becoming obvious our perceived depth at D is a bit overstated. We DO have a lot of guys coming up that project well, but right now our NHL guys are not performing at a level that would indicate depth. We are getting outshot, our breakouts are not great, we seem to break down in our zone too much. In a couple of years when a couple of guys lke Percy and Finn inject themselves, Gardiner and Reilly have more experience and we have Phaneuf and Franson still in the top 4 I think we'll look much better. For this season another legit NHL defencemen could solve some of our problems.
@rustynail @CanuckUKinToronto @rickpearce76 @Zep2 No, not as a centre but perhaps they could find a way to shuffle around the fwds and make 3 solid lines and use him on wing/centre depending on need.
To me that looks a LOT better than our current 4th line. It'd also enable us to spread minutes out better since we don't have to worry about only using Orr/McClaren for 4 minutes a game.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Game Preview: Leafs host JT’s Islanders
@CanuckUKinToronto @Burtonboy For some ungodly reason they see fit to dress 2 useless goons. I got nothing against Orr or McClaren, but having both on our roster hurts our team IMHO. We need to drop one and keep Ashton, and one of Holland/Smithson/Smith. I'd love to drop both but I don't see if ever happening here...
@rustynail @CanuckUKinToronto @Zep2 If we can run Lupul/Kadri/Clarkson for an actual string of games I don't see how they won't all produce well. Give Lupul credit, he bangs and crashes probably better than anyone on the team. Even without the puck he is impactful.
Nice write up.
I hope when we get Bozak and Kadri back that Carlyle has the sense to keep one of Smith/Smithson/Holland up with the team and demote one of Orr/McClaren/Ashton.
