As a Jimmer fan my frustration with the Kings organization has been consistent, but Coach Malone is right that the organization derserves a lot of credit for doing the right thing by Jimmer here. Props to Vivek Ranadive and Pete D'Alessandro. I'm very glad the Sacramento community got to keep their team and I wish this new ownership group nothing but the best in the future.
Jimmer just never found a consistent niche on this team, but there is always room in the NBA for a guy with his shooting and scoring ability and I am excited to see what his future in the NBA holds.

The Kings organization needs to do the right thing here and let Jimmer go. His 49.3% 3 pt shooting, 22 pts per 36 since Jan.1, and 16.6 PER will be appreciated elsewhere. FREE JIMMER

26 games and counting until Jimmer is free...
11 months, 1 week ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Sacramento Kings at Denver Nuggets
The countdown to Jimmer's freedom is officially underway... it is clear the Kings organization won't play him the rest of the year since the season is a lost cause and they know he won't be returning. Heck of a reward for getting them a win in the Garden last week. James and Jonathan would have to admit he hasn't been treated fairly or been given a shot by this organization. He's showed a lot of flashes of brilliance this year, only to be rewarded with pure bull crap.
27 games until freedom...

Here's hoping Jimmer gets moved to a team that needs some scoring punch off the bench. Jimmer would thrive in an instant offense combo guard role with 20-25 minutes per night.

The Knicks got Jimmered
11 months, 3 weeks ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Sacramento Kings 106, New York Knicks 101
It's great to see Jimmer getting consistent minutes as the back-up point guard. Now it's time to expand his role into a combo guard who sees more minutes at the 2. Jimmer is a much more efficient player (16.0 PER) than either Thornton (10.8 PER) or McLemore (7.4 PER) that also has much better shooting percentages and would do well in the 20-25 minutes per night combo guard role depending on the match-ups.
1 year ago on Sunday Musings: Jimmer Fredette finds a role and some perspective with the Sacramento Kings
Jimmer has been playing really well lately in his limited minutes... he's showing he can be a very good scoring threat off the bench. Time to find him more minutes (not holding my breath that will happen).
1 year ago on CK Press Box Report: Philadelphia 76ers 113, Sacramento Kings 104
First to admit, my man Jimmer needs to play better, just 1/7 shooting tonight. Still shooting 50% from deep on the season though!
1 year, 1 month ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Charlotte Bobcats 95, Sacramento Kings 87
And quit this "Jimmer has been given a chance crap"... he's appeared in 9 games with just 11.0 minutes per outing!! That is NOT a legit chance to get into a rhythm, establish a role and identity in the rotation. Thornton's been given a chance... we all see what that's produced.
In Jimmer's very limited minutes he's sporting a 14.9 PER, shooting 41.7% overall and 50% from deep. These are all more efficient numbers than Thornton, and yet Jimmer hasn't had time to establish rhythm and confidence and Malone keeps going back to the guy who is flat out not getting the job done.
1 year, 1 month ago on Cowbell Kingdom Podcast Extra: Jimmer Fredette's new opportunity and Sacramento Kings assistant Micah Nori on statistical context
So... "his opportunity right now"... his "golden opportunity" as you guys say... is getting 6 minutes last night against the Suns while IT gets 2 assists in 42 minutes and McLemore/Thornton combine for 7 points at the 2, and all 3 guards get lit up by Dragic and Bledsoe.
"It's not like Thornton is blowing up.... he can steal minutes from Thornton" James says. Too bad Coach Malone doesn't see it. Here are the facts:
Marcus Thornton = 8.5 points in 25.4 mpg. Abysmal 10.3 PER and 35.3% shooting.
Ben McLemore = 9.2 points in 25.2 mpg. Anemic 9.2 PER and 35.1% shooting.
The Kings production this season from their 2 primary shooting guards has been AWFUL. There is no disputing that, it's statistical fact.
The other statistical fact? This team is 6-15. So clearly what they have been doing hasn't been working.
I've never claimed Jimmer was the next Steve Nash. I've always said in the NBA his best role where he would thrive would be as an instant offense combo guard off the bench. Isn't it high time the Kings start finding some minutes for him? What they've been doing so far this season hasn't been working... he can now spell IT as the back-up point guard, and he should be stealing some of Thornton's minutes at the 2. COMBO GUARD. 20 MINUTES. WAKE UP MALONE.
McLemore and Thornton sure did a bang-up job tonight, combining for 7 points in 48 minutes on 2-13 shooting. That sure is a great night of production from the 2-guard position, no way possible Jimmer could top that!
What a freaking joke. And this team wonders why they're a cellar dweller every year. What a dumpster fire of an organization. FREE JIMMER!!!!!
1 year, 1 month ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Phoenix Suns 116, Sacramento Kings 107
Tough for Jimmer to earn minutes when Thornton and McLemore are lighting it up with their 10.6 and 9.9 PER's. This organization is such a joke.

@TABDOG Well played. #FREEJIMMER
Good to see Jimmer getting some minutes... hopefully he will continue to get a consistent role and get his confidence going.
1 year, 2 months ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Sacramento Kings 113, Phoenix Suns 106
It's clear that Marcus Thornton and his 8.5 PER need to be benched. Jimmer needs to be part of the guard rotation as an instant offense combo guard off the bench, getting 20-25 mins per night; he brings more flexibility to the back-court as he can play the 1 or 2, Thornton strictly being a 2. Time for Sacramento to FINALLY give Jimmer a consistent role. If they continue to choose Thornton and give Jimmer DNP's then #FREEJIMMER
1 year, 2 months ago on With the Sacramento Kings struggling, Jimmer Fredette gets another shot
Jimmer actually getting some minutes, quite a shock. Not an amazing performance, but 4 pts, 3 assists, 2 steals in 19 minutes is solid. It would be nice to see Jimmer start getting a consistent 20-25 minutes per night, as I'm very confident he would score in double figures most of those nights, but we all know it will be right back to the DNP's for Jimmer. Coach Malone has to get Marcus Thornton and his 9.9 PER those minutes!
1 year, 2 months ago on CK Press Box Report: Portland Trail Blazers 96, Sacramento Kings 85
Marcus Thornton now rocking an abysmal 9.9 PER. He sure is doing a bang up job with those 30 mins per game!! Jimmer would be doing 15 ppg with a consistent 30 mins per night and he'd have a PER above 20, GUARANTEED. Don't believe me, just look at his PER and points per 48 last season and this year's pre-season. This team is a JOKE. Coach Malone is a joke. The organization is a joke... and the Kings fan will continue to suffer. 1-4 start... well on their way to another 25-30 win season. F-R-E-E J-I-M-M-E-R

@Dima2k @mjmill Dude, your reply is waaaaay too long to read. Don't have time for that. I'll just end reply with this. 25 games into last season Jimmer had the highest PER on the entire Kings roster, and was #7 in the entire NBA in points per 48 with a 30.7 clip. Keith Smart acknowledged he needed to find him more minutes. Never happened. Nobody is saying Jimmer is Chris Paul here. I've always said he can be an instant guard off the bench, i.e. Jet Terry, Leandro Barbosa, Nate Robinson, Jamal Crawford, etc, etc. PEACE
1 year, 2 months ago on Sacramento Kings decide not to pick up the fourth year option on Jimmer Fredette
@Dima2k How has he been struggling?? Simple case of never getting a chance. Apparenlty you haven't looked at his PER or points per 48 last season or in this year's pre-season. Remember Jimmer's 4th quarter offensive explosion last year at Staples that got the Kings back in the game? Remember how Keith Smart admitted he needed to find Jimmer more minutes, then continued with the DNP's? But yeah, you're right. 40+% three point shooters have no place in this league.
@nusserj @Cowbb Absolutely right. He's been stereotyped big time. Anytime you hear a Jimmer-hater talk the go-to move is "he can't play D". It's such a trendy, lazy criticism. Jimmer may not be a lock-down defender but he can "decent" on that end, and he has the ability to be an offensive spark plug on the offensive end.
Give me a break Jimmer-haters... Jamal Crawford has been lighting it up on offense for years without playing a lick of defense. There is a place for Jimmer in this league, he's a 40+ percent 3-point shooter for heaven's sakes.
The Kings have blown it. They have missed their chance to have a top-flight Vinnie Johnson type of instant offense 6th man, who surely would have been one of the biggest fan-favorites Sacramento ever had.
1 year, 2 months ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Golden State Warriors 98, Sacramento Kings 87
Thornton-Vazquez-Thomas combined to shoot an abysmal 6 for 26 last night and still Jimmer can't get off the bench. Clearly the Kings needed an offensive spark in the back-court last night and Malone's regular rotation wasn't getting the job done. I guess Malone doesn't appreciate efficient offensive basketball.
Jimmer archive... through 22 games last season Jimmer was averaging 30.7 points per 48 minutes, which was #7 in the entire NBA at the time. Keith Smart remarked that he needed to find a way to get Jimmer minutes... it never happened.
Now look what's happening with Malone. Jimmer has a good pre-season, shows some offensive explosions again... and yet still no minutes.
The organization truly needs to free this kid, this is getting absolutely ridiculous. #FREEJIMMER

The Kings used Jimmer for ticket sales and then promptly ruined his career. They've NEVER given him a real shot. When he has gotten rare chances at decent minutes he's been a very efficient scorer. Keith Smart even said "I need to find minutes for this kid" then promptly continued with the DNP's.
Jimmer could have been an instant offense combo guard and a huge fan-favorite star. Last time I checked, instant offense scoring guards off the bench were a valuable commodity in this league (see J.R. Smith, Jason Terry, Leandro Barbosa, etc, etc). Nobody can deny when looking at Jimmer's PER and shooting percentages when he gets minutes that the kid can score in bunches.
The Kings have blown it. And don't give me this crap about defense. Steve Nash has won multiple MVP awards while being a defensive liability. Steve Blake gets consistent minutes for the Lakers... you mean to tell me Steve Blake is a more talented player than Jimmer?? Give me a freakin' break.
1 year, 3 months ago on Sacramento Kings decide not to pick up the fourth year option on Jimmer Fredette
Jimmer never got a shot in Sacramento, PERIOD (despite being very efficient last season and in this pre-season -- when he got his rare chance at minutes his PER and points per 48 have been outstanding).
Bottom line is the Kings organization NEVER gave him a shot. Just trade the kid so he can escape this mess and finally get a shot at a consistent role somewhere. Jimmer can be an instant offense combo guard in this league and the Kings have blown it with him. I look forward to the day when Jimmer is a stud on another team and this dumpster fire of an organization is still languishing at 30 wins with a bunch of shoot first guards and realize they've freaking BLOWN IT.
1 year, 3 months ago on Cowbell Kingdom Podcast Ep 117: Deuce Mason on Sacramento Kings season opener, Jimmer Fredette
I have just one thing to say... #FREEJIMMER. The Kings are the worst possible fit for him in all of the NBA. Just trade him and let him go already.
1 year, 3 months ago on Decision day arrives for Sacramento Kings and Jimmer Fredette
Great article James, very balanced and thoughtful. The bottom line is the Kings backcourt is over-crowded. Either they need to #FREEJIMMER or they need to move Thornton.
1 year, 3 months ago on Sunday Musings: The Jimmer Fredette Dilemma
When Jimmer gets minutes, Jimmer scores. Too bad the Kings will continue to give minutes to Marcus "5 for 18" Thornton. McLemore is a promising rookie and an elite athlete so I understand the minutes there but Thornton is little more than a volume shot-taking streak shooter who's off more often then he's on.
Jimmer can be an excellent combo guard in this league if he's just given the minutes and given a consistent role. Hopefully Jimmer elevated his trade value somewhat last night to a point where the Kings can package him in a deal. #FREEJIMMER
1 year, 3 months ago on CK Preseason Press Box Report: Sacramento Kings 107, Phoenix Suns 90
Kawhi Leonard used to guard Jimmer all the time in college and Jimmer used to destroy him. Jimmer owned San Diego State and Kawhi Leonard. The NBA is all about getting on a team that you're a good fit with. Kawhi is a good fit for the Spurs... the Kings personnel and coaching staff is a dumpster fire and Jimmer has been caught in the middle of the mess and never given real chances under Keith Smart to flourish. Jimmer certainly showed a lot of flashes last season but was never given consistent minutes. Really hoping the new organization gives him a shot or he gets traded. #FREEJIMMER
