You also wanted Nick Ritchie over Nylander though

@totalrebuild @HHT its not that rare, Cory Schnider just netted the canucks a 9th overall pick last year. And they could of had a better return from Edmonton and Calgary but Mike Gillis didn't want to trade him to a rival

Good to hear! Funny thinking back to when he was first drafted majority of the posters were freaking out saying he's too small and soft, and that the leafs should have took Ritche instead Hahah

Amazing that the media never puts blame on Nonis. They never shied away from attacking Burke though, and he actually left the club in a decent position moving forward
Nothing like that at all. Kessel is still a valuable asset within to organization. Bolland left at the end of the season for nothing... Along with Raymond... And Kulemin..
Remember when Nonis gave away 3 draft picks for Dave Bolland ... Good times
Kypreos is Bill O'Reilly

3 weeks, 5 days ago on Deadline passes with core largely in tact
@.Kong. @wendelsfist I think management likes the leadership and veteran qualities Polak offers. Need those kind of guys around even during a rebuild, otherwise you end up like edmonton
3 weeks, 6 days ago on Dave Nonis Post-Deadline Media Address
@TuckerForPunishment Have to also think that Hall, Yak, and RNH could have been the impact players they were touted as if they were properly developed and insulated with a better team. Rather than just throwing all their young drafted players into the NHL when they're not ready
4 weeks ago on GDT: Game #63, Toronto Maple Leafs at Washington Capitals (7 p.m., CityTV)
A bag of pucks would be an overpayment for clarkson
I'm all for getting Babs he's a great coach. I'm just saying it's not all doom and gloom if they can't land him. There are plenty of options out there that we wouldn't even be aware of. Take Willie Desjardins for example and what he has managed to accomplish in Vancouver. I didn't see anyone on here predicting him as a viable coaching candidate

And yet Your ignorance has already formulated an opinion of the man after 4 months. What Shanny has his management team accomplishing cannot be judged by individual moves, it's a long term plan that can only be assessed after a few years of work
Hmm call me crazy but I'm pretty sure other GMs have been successful at building teams without having Babcock as the team's coach.
He's been involved in the game since other kids his age were focused on where the party was Saturday night and which girl thy want to hook up with. Everything Dubas said above is true, and is stuff even a knowledgeable fan of the game can grasp without even ever being a GM of an OHL team or assistant GM of an NHL team
Picks that late can be anyone's guess. Outside of the top 10 there's just not enough resources on these later pick prospects for any of us to make an educated opinion.
If Nonis trades Bernier it's not because he's a mistake or isn't a good goalie. If he has a chance to get a significant return that will put the club in a better position long term then there is no problem
It'll be an offseason blockbuster involving Phaneuf and Bernier
Hard to believe this team was ever in a rebuild mode looking at that
Play a season without a captain, just don't rush to hand it to the first guy that turns the volume up on the locker room radio
Understandable. deals involving contracts like Phaneufs are highly unlikely to be done this time of year. TDL is for playoff teams looking to shore up weaknesses. It's away expiring contracts to those teams as rentals or take advantage of a desperate team willing to take on a risky contract (ie Lupul). The more valuable pieces can wait until the offseason when their are more suitors
I never mentioned anything about doing that before the deadline.
If the leafs are listening to offers on Bernier than Edmonton is a logical target. Edmonton needs Dmen and a goalie, that's a perfect fit for a deal with the Leafs. Phaneuf + Bernier going to Edmonton for a deal centers around their 1st and whatever else to make it work
@TheColborneUltimatum @Beleaf67 it still doesn't matter. If they have 5.3 or more in cap space Horton's cap hit will be added. But if the leafs sign another player than it just pushes Horton's out
1 month ago on GDT: Game #61, Philadelphia Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., TSN)
you have to think Nonis' time with as GM will be coming to a close after this. The board would of had to agree to spend 26 million to fix Nonis' mistake
@mcloki @Savo43 @HHT the asset management we've witnessed unfold does not line up with any of Nonis's past actions or philosophy. This is the same guy that said after signing clarkson that he's not worried about years 5-7 he's only focused on year 1. Now suddenly there's a massive emphasis on asset management and not letting people go for nothing (grabo, kulemin, macarthur) and also to draft and develope. Now they have to re-acquire draft picks that nonis traded away
Which proves he's dependant on kessel

@Yaknowwhat funny how when Bernier lets in a softy its because the team infront him sucks, Reimer let's in a softy it's all his fault
I had bought tickets to that game a long time ago. I don't even have the energy or desire to wear my leafs jersey to the game, that's how bad it's gotten

@Jmessih @The_Polish_Cannon either way trade deadline is looming, all teams are talking amongst each other. We don't need darren dreger to tell us that
1 month, 3 weeks ago on GDT: Game #53, Toronto Maple Leafs at New Jersey Devils (7 p.m., SNO)
@Jmessih they've been talking all week about the leafs talking to other teams.
@djamon @DeclanK they're all mouthpieces. There's nobody in the MSM who obtains secret intel and leaks it without someone's knowledge, they wouldn't last very long in the business if they did. They're all spooned information to put out in the public for PR purposes and to gain leverage in negotiations.
1 month, 3 weeks ago on Monday Mashup: Goals? Never heard of ‘em
It was bad timing with the salary cap coming down, teams couldn't take on salary without sending any back and leafs couldn't take any back. Bad time to be dealing anybody

I could see COL being more interested in a player like phaneuf. However, Ill admit I don't catch many Arizona games so I'm not too familiar with Yandle aside from highlights

Phaneuf for ROR ?
Yaknowwhat, Mattmark, Otis, Zeus. I remember them all losing their shit about the Nylander pick

Where are all idiots that freaked out about taking Nylander over Ritchie ??
@Bring the Cup Home @Dangle_My_Berries its only a few games in and they've drastically changed their play. Give them time, they'll figure out how to bring out the offence. Right now they're probably concentrating too much on the defensive side. It's like Kadri how he sacrificed his offence to play better D. and after a while he started to incorporate his offence again
2 months, 2 weeks ago on GDT: Game #44, Toronto Maple Leafs at Anaheim Ducks (10 p.m., SNO)
@Cameron19 @The_Polish_Cannon A team like Edmonton, Florida, Colorado were teams that thought they were better than they actually are. I think Edmonton would have been extremely interested in Phaneuf, they showed in the offseason they were desperate to add on D
And i'm not saying i have anything against Kessel or Phaneuf, I like them both as players. Just the organization has failed massively to build a team around them while they're in the prime years
2 months, 3 weeks ago on The Randy Carlyle era is over
it's funny coming back on to read all the comments now that we're at this point. I remember early in the offseason suggesting that since we have not surrounded Kessel and Phaneuf with the right pieces, that the organization should trade its core and shift its focus to building around the next wave of young players in the system. Everyone lost it on me in here.
I suggested that they try to make trades and get draft picks included in deals from teams that might be under illusions of how well they will play this season, and hopefully get some good picks in this deep draft coming up. It'll be a lot harder to pry picks away from a team with a good draft position now.
