Pretty damned good, wouldn't say the best. His shot and his speed get brought up too much and the rest of his game doesn't get enough.

Fucking 'fans' bitching because their team is winning. It's the most moronic shit I've ever seen in sport.

You think Dion and Phil, guys who get worked up over ping pong, want to lose? Or any other player on that team that have been amongst the best at any level they've played at so that they could become professional athletes 10 or so years later want to fucking lose?
I really hope that this tank nation horseshit dies a miserable fucking death.
People have been saying that for a few years because there's two teams that have picked up some good players and turned it around. Most teams tht lose, lose more, and then lose more.
Even so, it goes against the very fabric of sport of hockey and every sport on the goddamned planet. I don't play fucking tic tac toe to lose. If the Leafs were to tank and win the cup, don't think I'd be at the parade -- nevermind the fact that they'd more likely be worse for it than better.

There's no right way to lose. Anyone who advocates the opposite shouldn't be watching sports at all, because they're missing the point of the whole thing.
I forgot that Komorov was great at faceoffs. That would be a pretty good fourth line, especially if we can get Kozun back into the game he was playing pre-injury. Panik's clutch in front of the net, but strangely useless everywhere else on the ice.

Got to give credit to Santorelli for driving the net too, helped free up all that space for Kadri.
I think we need to mix the lines again though. Switch it all up. At least put Kadri with a finisher in Lupul, and Clarkson with a boards player like Santorelli or Winnik. Put all the lines in a blender if you want, I don't care.
3 days, 9 hours ago on GDT: Game #31, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Anaheim Ducks (7:30 p.m., TSN4)
Everything past four was just gravy. We killed them with four lines. Bozak on a rebound, Lupul on a one-timer, Booth on a wrap-around, Kadri off the rush.
I agree with whoever it was that said we need to get Clarkson off that line. Killing our plays.

We have one disallowed or did we get a penalty for that goaltender interference? Missed a few minutes.

Kovalchuk makes enough money that someone else would be taking care of it. Unless they are completely inept, most of it wouldn't have been kept in any sort of currency, it would be in various stocks and bonds. If it were in a currency it likely wouldn't be Ruples, especially after nations started to impose the sort of hardship that they are on Russia for their actions in the Ukraine. Certainly not after the price of oil dropped to $65.

Takes his health seriously, trains hard, you can see it in how he returns from injury every time. Doesn't seem to be losing quickness or like his injuries are catching up to him.
Not a concern. We've got Gards who comes in slow every season and ends strong and we've got to strengthen our C. But we're talking about changes that don't make us better.

He's bad getting pucks out on the half-wall -- part of the problem playing off-wing. He'll bury guys in the corners too, and that's something we need on this team. That 1st game v Detroit, the goal (Nyquist backhand spin) Lupul was late getting to his guy but he buried him, and he was taking the C responsibility down low after burying another guy on the half-wall, Reilly had his guy wrapped up in front but, let him get loose, he should have buried him too.
Your trade is a downgrade at wing, downgrade on D, and a downgrade in goal. For what? A fucking 2nd round pick?
We need a 4 C. Our top 3 aren't faring too badly this year.
Why are people trying to unload Lupul? Guy can play anywhere in the top nine, will play physical, score a bunch of goals, brings some veteran presence, some intelligence, and he'll snatch points in the shootout. His contract is fair and if he gets injured it doesn't hurt our cap anyway.
And he fought Voynoy, who's a peice of shit, bonus is it broke up a 2 on 1 in the same play.
Liked MacAurther more than any of them, and don't miss him at all.

It is hilarious that both Lupul and Bernier are conspicuously absent. Suppose I would be too, I'm not particularly happy when I do something stupid and it gets saved for posterity.
1 week ago on Game Review: Game #28, Toronto Maple Leafs 2 vs. Detroit Red Wings 1 (SO)
I like Bernier more than Reimer. I don't think we win that game against Detroit with Bernie in net though, same as we might not have beaten other teams this season with Reimer in net.
It's semantics. We're not going to establish all angles of evidence here and come to a concensus then hold hands and sing kumbayyah around a Bernier hockey shrine.
Not to diminish Leo's contribution but, let's not put too much weight on him being in or out of the lineup. There's 12 forwards, and the responsible vet leadership, the defensively awareness and the effort that Komorov brings is distrubuted better now throughout the lineup.
Which is to say, hopefully, Leo or no Leo, we don't slump like we have in prior seasons.
Tone of conversation gets lost in text, and simple things like a smirk or a shrug might so easily diffuse things in a personal setting.
I know Cam, it's tough being right all the time. Story of my life.
Is anyone arguing that Bernier isn't the better goalie, or is this just a matter of arguing over evidence usage, and possible unknowns?
Knowing how to play a position and playing your best position are a different thing altogether - especially with two guys out of position. Lupes played well with Bozak too. Just be glad we have some guys with chemistry -- we don't need to mix all the chemicals at once.

Didn't look like much his last year here. I liked how he was crazy competetive when provoked. Didn't like how he played like shit for an entire year and got paid $2 mil more than he was worth.
Doesn't have the headspace to make smart plays all the time. Did a lot of stupid things out there.
Wanted that all year. Liked when they put Kessel with Kadri and Lupul. Now I loke sheltering that top line, reducing their ES minutes -- Holland and Lupul were on for 4 goals for last game, and Kessel's injured (possibly).
People forget how many blind or stupid passes Grabo used to make, and how he quit on the team because he was put in a position to play against the best players in the league.
Kulemin's talent dried up and withered away after one good year. Good riddens.
It's strange how that top line works. Never dominating, not consistent one game to the next, but they score a lot of goals.
And it helps to have some sandpaper spread over our lines. I wouldn't change it with Clarkson playing well with those two.
You've got Holland in an unfamiliar position on the wing, where his strength is in the middle, and you've got Lupes on the right when he's better on the left. Those are all complimentary players but our weakness is up the middle.
Nice article, man.
Luck? Thought for a minute he put in Gards goal 'til I saw the replay, hit the puck-carrier to create Holland's goal, cleared the puck and then kept the puck inside the line for Clarkson's goal and scored one himself. Unlucky not to have 4 points - Holland really could have had more points too.
That Kadri line is a whole day's worth of hard work too. I like the line-up we have right now a lot. Kozun's been gone for ages, and Komorov is still in the wings as well.
I can't remember the last time we had a team with depth -- everyone wants to shit on our GM or the past GM because we haven't picked first overall or something stupid. We haven't had a team this good in ten years. Five years ago we were a laughingstock.

I liked it.

Clarkson could fight Burrows in traction.
Empty net too.
It's night and day, this team's assistant coach's have made a huge impact on our neutral zone play and forecheck. Every forecheck they try to force the defenseman into keeping the puck on the same side of the ice, there's always a second forechecker in shadowing the first with a third in position at the blue line or deeper to slow the other team's play in the neutral zone or cover bsck to our own defensive zone, and they know when to chase and when to cycle back and allow someone else to forecheck. This team couldn't forecheck at all last year, and now how many times have we seen them recover pucks, hem teams in and create scoring chances?
Obviously, it helps when you have guys who are tenacious and more capable in this regard like Komo, Santa, Winnik, and guys like Naz and Lupul buy in too. But the structure is plain to see, and it didn't exist last year.
2 weeks, 3 days ago on Game Review: Game #24, Toronto Maple Leafs 5 vs. Dallas Stars 3
Everyone on that line of Lupul, Kadri and Kessel is comfortable with the puck. Lupul and Kadri don't feel the need to instantly distribute it to Phil, and they are capable of cycling and controlling possession without him -- adding him to that line will just be gravy.
Bozak defers far too frequently when playing with Kessel, and he's far craftier than his avg shift would indicate. JVR doesn't play physically when he's on that top line. They're less together than the sum of their parts. Obviously, they know how to defend; both Bozak and JVR kill penalties.

Why the fuck is your name Belief if you have a pic of one of those douchebags with the douchebag on his head? Isn't that blatantly hypocritical?

Lebron plays for Cleveland again? Did he hold a press conference beforehand? Who cares about basketball?
Who gives a shit? Fan salute was on the scoreboard. Enough of the nonsense.
Typical media hatchet-job on the Leafs looking for a negative narrative after a big win. Watch the player interviews on the Leafs site; everyone is looking for a pound of flesh. Complete hogwash.
Bet ya 200 people drove by and didn't help. Goddamned, spoiled, rich athletes on social media.
Can't ask for a trade if you're single and screw someone, now can you? #I'mbringingeveryteamIplayfortothefinals

They haven't really tried to make the team better except by drafting, and they haven't given any of those kids a reasonable attempt to mature through the minors. What a shit organization. If I was Eberle or RNH, I'd get married and fuck a reporter.
This might get deleted...
Should be a lesson to all those who advocate tanking as well.
Lupul back tonight? We could use his sort of hardnosed play in the top six. And a couple goals too.
Wasn't Kessel the guy who went out of his way at the end if last season to bring all the reporters to him and apologize for the team's collapse?
Yeah sorry he doesn't want to shoot the shit every fucking day but, how many other guys would do that?
1 month ago on Leafs Notebook – November 17
Missed the game. It looked from the highlights that we were all over them in the first and couldn't score, then a couple goals, the first one a real stinker, changed the tide. Second game of a back to back as well.
Wouldn't read too much into it, same as I wouldn't read too much into us scoring 11 goals combined, or whatever, against Chicago and Boston.
Certainly wasn't instinctive for him to jump in front of the net. I don't like his attitude, in general. There's so many plays where he decides he's not going to skate to the puck but coast or wait for it to come to him, and he's lazy in making himself available for his D partner.
I understand what he's done for the team in the past, and it's still early in the season, however, I wouldn't be opposed to moving him.
