@Zep2 Mahovolich return was Ullman and Paul Henderson, that was a pretty good return. MacDonald got Paiment, who still holds the Leafs record for most points by a right winger. They weren't popular trades but to insinuate the players the Leafs got were duds is way off base. Are you just reading the past trades or did you actually see any of these guys play?

FYI for GOT fans, thought there was no episode tomorrow night because of Easter, but the third episode is on. Don't always have a new episode on holiday weekends.

@loomx @donelikedinner I like what I have read about Virtanen, but haven't seen him play, but have noticed some had him ready to go in the 40's. That being said, the scouting reports on him are what we would be looking for. At the end of the day, Virtanen,Perlini, McCann,Ritchie or Fleury would all be solid picks and who knows how they will turn out 4 years from now.

@leafersutherland @donelikedinner he has been ranked as high as 6th in some projections.
Haydn Fleury is the consensus #2 defenceman in this draft. Considering this is projected to be a weak draft, and there is no guarantee that the forward picked will be an impact forward, perhaps drafting Fleury if he is available would be the way to go. Bernier has solidified the goaltending, and by adding Fleury to Rielly, Gardiner, Granberg, Finn, Percy and Mac Williams we could have a really solid core within the next few years on the backend.
@NotTheCanucksnaphook @Belfour20/JB-45 Holland has to be in the top 3. move Bozak out and put Holland in and we're still good. (or okay) 3rd line , I mean.
@NotTheCanucksnaphook @mlclearwater like him too, but i wonder if he will translate to being as physical against men, as he has grown into his body already, playing against kids who are still developing. Seen that a lot with my youngest son's hockey. Kids who are bigger dominate, but when the others catch up, it's a different game. Still like him though.

@peterbleafs @Leafs2 Isles1@Keeon neither would Nashville
@Kouba The top 5 are pretty much set, Ekblad, Reihhart, Bennett, Draitsl, and DalColle. After that, a couple of Euros could go-Nylander and the kid from Halifax-Eljers ? That leaves some good players to pick from to fit the Leafs needs. Nick Ritchie, Jake Virtanen, Jared McCann, Perlini, Tuch, and the defenseman from the WHL, Fleury. All are fairly big, players with talent. Possibly the Leafs could trade down a few picks and the recoup their second round pick.
@mr_hanie A friend of mine here at work played for Laviolette and said, him and Burns were the best coaches he played for. Hartley was by far the worst. Also, his brother in-law is still with the Panthers org. and they (players) didn't think Dineen had a clue. Just passing this on from someone more in the know than me.
2 weeks, 1 day ago on Poll: Who do you want as the Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs?
@Yaknowwhat 1-Roger Neilson, 2-Pat Burns, 3-Pat Quinn,4-Red Kelly, after that it doesn't matter, however we used to call Tom Watt-TWatt ! Johnny Mclellan was okay, but Punch was the best the first time around.
2 weeks, 2 days ago on Poll: Who do you want as the Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs?
@darthNihilus Nonis may end up losing his job for Phaneuf at 7,Clarkson at 5.25, and possibly even Kessel at 8. I always liked Burke's 5 year limit.

@Alec Brownscombe @4evrblue I don't really like or dislike anyone on this team. I learned a long time ago not to get attached to any player. I support the team and if the team can be made better get rid of whoever you have to. This obviously isn't working, and I year in the past 9 seems more like an aberration than the norm.
Look what happened to the Raptors when they got rid of their supposedly best player, the young guys stepped up and give battle every single night. Sometimes you get addition by subtraction. Not mentioning any names here.

@Jordan29 take out McClement, has been shit this year. We are also getting Ekblad when we win the lottery :)
@Pent_House kind of ironic isn't it ? at the start of the year Giroux was doing FA, and many on here were saying they wouldn't take a package including him for Kessel, let alone a one for one.
@Bruffins @deedrag@TheCanucksnaphook I don't think the Leafs will move Rielly or Gardiner :)
@zakimak @dlb eh@Ydargo I get the impression from watching Lupul he doesn't give a shit once he has a beef with the coach. He seems too egotistical to be a real team guy and has his own agenda. No facts, but just my opinion.
Do all non-playoff teams get a shot at the lottery #1 overall ? If not they probably finish with 10-14 pick and maybe Nick Ritchie. Sorry, this is the only thing I can think of to try and stay positive about this POS team.
I used to love the way Bryan McCabe played when he first came here, then I couldn't wait for him to go. got the same feeling for Phaneuf.
@Bruffins @zakimak@Loric76 not stupid, fact.
nice hustle to get back Phaneuf
@mr_hanie Bouwmeester has always been an elite skater with good size, mobility and has been put on a great defensive team. Phaneuf is an average skater with less than average mobility and when players of that kind decline, it is a shorter career than those that have the elite skating ability. Phaneuf needs to be put in a position to succeed and that would probably be in the second pairing. His above average early success in Calgary brought on too much expectation for him.

@loomx @BBirde Then maybe we wouldn't even be I as a high a position as we are now.

One of the things Clarkson was supposed to do was bring the "intangibles" a big hit, a momentum fight, net presence,etc, and make a difference even if he wasn't scoring. What the hell happened to the guy from NJ that did that. I'm not blaming him for the loss, but he sure as hell hasn't contributed to any wins either.
At 53, I have come to the conclusion that if they don't give a shit, why should I ? I keep telling myself this, but I still wake up in the middle of the night and say wtf happened tonight ?
Really disappointing effort in the first for such a big game. Turnovers, shitty goaltending, oddman rushes, you would never know this team realizes what is on the line. Ten seconds before the third goal, Gardiner and Franson are in the same corner and no one in front. FFS I could go on and on. Some of these guys just don't get it.
kessel , third turnover that cost a goal in the last 3 games, but Reimer has to have that
Unlike many on here that blame Carlyle for everything, if there is one thing that bugs me is that he doesn't staple guys butts to the bench when they playing like shit. Bodie comes in scores the other night, brings energy and then hardly played. Lupul has been like this most of the year, and he is not the only one, but there needs to be accountability, and I wouldn't give a shit what line they are on, or how much they make.

@Bruffins blasphemous! :)
@Burtonboy @donelikedinner He did and not saying Reimer caused Franson to shoot the puck over, but he has to eat that puck on that play in a one goal game.
1 month, 1 week ago on Shark Club Game Day: Game #69, Maple Leafs at Capitals
Reimer holds that puck, no penalty.
Been said on here a lot, but they have to split up Phaneuf and Franson on the PP and change tactics on the setup. Everything is based on Kessel or Kadri on the half wall, and our points aren't firing enough . I would set it up and let Phaneuf and Franson have a few one timers from the point like Subban, and when the opposition eventually comes out to block, it creates more space down low to let Kessel and Kadri setup.
Alright! back in it now, if Reimer can get rid of playing with 2 blockers we still have a chance!
Best leaf shift this year, and against a top 5 team.
