@Jordan29 Especially the Kipper one. That is tantalizing!
@docmma @Bernier_The_Boats @Anthony Petrielli @Tommy Cat You could say he walks a fine line then.
@Mind Bomb @Bernier_The_Boats @Bobsyouruncle you can say that again :)
@Alec Brownscombe @Bobsyouruncle Clearly more in depth. Sometimes I have to take a nap to rest my eyes for a minute in the middle (Just kidd'n)
@Knights2Leafs @Bernier_The_Boats Exactly, what has to happen is the 4th line gain confidence and trust to play in all situations. Once all 4 lines are clicking, everyone gels more, plays as a team, and supports each other. This frees up Randy to lessen minutes if guys are fatigues, increse minutes on a merit-based system, and everyone benifits in the long run..especially over 82 games as an appetizer for the real thing.
@Bobsyouruncle Hey, I gotta say Anthony knows his stuff. I can't see him generating near the hate as say, Simmons. That is far-fetched my friend. Simmonds is a douche.
@Anthony Petrielli @Bernier_The_Boats @Tommy Cat Ken "The Ratt" Linesman esque.
@Anthony Petrielli @Bernier_The_Boats @Tommy Cat yup...hehe! I woul;d hate that if I was on the receiving end. You want to chirp at him, but he just drops you, ignores his grease and skates away....Classic.
On another note, I sure hope that Holland's confidence is up. He is an excellent player, but seemd to be lacking this year so far. If we can have Winnik, KOmo, Clarky, and Holland going, we will really be getting the secondary support we need to win the tightly contested games.
@Tommy Cat @Bernier_The_Boats Yeah, he is great to watch. When his line os on the ice I find myself more interested in what he is doing away from the puck rather than where the puck actually is. He is also great at giving a cheap shot or late hit and making it look accidental.
Really liked that Komarov Article...so happy he is back and his way about playing the game is so infectious to others...what a beaut!
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats I also sometimes wonder if athletes take carb-loading too far....I know it's a long shot, but possible as well. I dunno..
2 months, 3 weeks ago on Game Review: Preseason Game #5, Maple Leafs 6 vs. Sabres 4
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats I'm certain that Kessel trains with his sister (also a gifted athelete, albeit concussed this year)...Even at the Collegiate level, athletes are well educated on Kinesiology, training methodology, and most importantly, training their weaknesses. Consider that Kessel is executing a training regimen at this level thoughout the off-season for a moment....compare his level of commitment and and his God-given talent to Guy Lafleur or Mario smoking cigarettes year round and their contributions to the game...I really don't see the relevance or necessity to dispel the criticism or adjust his diet.
How many of us out there have known a guy personally who has poor genetics as far as their build goes, but is an exceptional athlete. I can name 2 or 3 myself. 20 years ago I chucked 80 lb hay bales as a 20 year old (in the best physical condition of my life) with my Mom's cousin. He is about 5'3" and 120 lbs. with a beer belly. I ran half-marathons and played semi-pro hockey at the time. This guy destroyed me from an endurance perspective!! Genetics and body make up were irrelevant in my case, just as they are in Kessel's case. Who gives a sh*t if he has a beer belly? The guy is obviously surprising teammates with his strength and speed....do you think any one of them wouldn't trade their Adonis-type physiques for Phil's talent? I know I would, and I stopped passing judgement on someone's build/stamina a long time ago after learning not to underestimate...The media needs to find a different topic of conversation IMO...I bet Kessel trains (dry land) just as hard as anyone out there, and will probably always have a belly...that's the way God made him.
@Optimustic @CanuckUKinToronto @.JVR. Ashton and Bodie should try careers in getting face-punched...they are very sucessful in that respect.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Tuesday Mashup: September!
@Optimustic @CanuckUKinToronto @.JVR. I hate to say it, but Ashton is a plug.
@Cameron19 I see Booth and Santa on the 4th line...I dunno.

@Greg Fenton @Bernier_The_Boats @Cameron19 I'm pretty sure the new management aren't going to pull a Raycroft or Nolan...
4 months, 4 weeks ago on Wednesday Mashup: Dubas Mania
@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 @wiski @Bernier_The_Boats I like Kessel..he has improved every year so far.
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats I am trying not to be set in my old ways and hope that advanced analytics will help in some form or another...luck is a big thing too...could draft the best guy but if he blows out a knee in his last year of jr., scouting is not accountable.
@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 @wiski @Bernier_The_Boats look at the hand he was delt...the guy is a friggin' genious! (Minus the Lebad thing)
@Cameron19 @wiski @Bernier_The_Boats couldn't agree more...(for once) :)
@TheCanucksnaphook @Bernier_The_Boats just hackin' on ya a bit :)
@TheCanucksnaphook @Bernier_The_Boats On the same note, JFJ was in his 30's when he took over for Quinn, who was old guard, old school. It would kind of be like if you were replaced by a younger caddy who could walk faster, and patented a range finder that improved accuracy for his pro by 10%...
@TheCanucksnaphook @Bernier_The_Boats Haha....JFJ is a similar story, but had more of a political in due to his father....I think he was a better agent than manager....good point though.
...I see Dubas as the start of a paradigm shift that will take place at a management level. Advanced stats, new minds for the game and how it needs to be executed, and a cognizance for what subtlties and adjustments need to be made in order to eliminate the latent errors that are meshed into the current program. I have high hopes that in a couple of seasons, big things are very possible. These management changes are an excellent start to something big here...(repost from below)
@Cameron19 @Greg Fenton @Bernier_The_Boats Exactly...I see Dubas as the start of a paradigm shift that will take place at a management level. @Greg Fenton This kid is going to help influence decisions that will hopefully turn TO into a team we can all be proud of....It's going to take some time for the Dubas/Shanahan relationship to catalyse
@TheCanucksnaphook @MaxwellHowe Might as well catch Cam's while your at it....It seems to be full..
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats @Greg Fenton Sadly, you've got me there...lol
5 months ago on Friday Mashup: 3 Unknowns Remain; Gord Dineen TSN1050 Interview
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats @Greg Fenton I'm not talking about the legal ramifications of fighting...I'm talking about winning puck battles...quit manipulating...find something else to be good at for once.
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats @Greg Fenton I bet if you asked a few of the boys around the league, you may be humbled a bit...
@Cameron19 @Greg Fenton forecheck=puck battles and compete=physicality..not face punch
@Cameron19 @Greg Fenton then quantify this and I might understand, "Leaf fans take note - lots of Hawks on this list. The game isn't about physicality and intimidation. Chicago's top shutdown D is on this list. Look familiar?
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats @Greg Fenton Last year we were an ultra fast reasonably skilled team that couldn't win one on one battles....(with a good tender)...no more, no less...and forget about equating fighting to physicality, they are not the same thing..
@Cameron19 @Bernier_The_Boats @Greg Fenton Blue glasses my friend...take them off and see what we are really made of...sheesh!
@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 Exactly...as much as I hate the Habs, this year's run they played like someone set their mom on fire...complete compete and a will to win..Physicality doesn't equate to face punching, it equates to stick battles, finishing checks without taking yourself out of the play, and such..
@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 Another example is taking a puck possession team like Chicago/Detroit and your coach saying, "c'mon boys, let's play just like they do"...if you don't have the skill to maintain the system in place, it doesn't take long to flop...teams quickly realize what they actually are when they face the top tier teams...and being able to adjust and adapt when you are clearly not putting up points as a team can happen a few different ways...work ethic, will to win, physicality, grinding and a good goaltender will turn a bunch of less skilled guys into a playoff team, there is no doubt in my mind that where the leafs are at comparative to top tier teams in the league, I am happy that physical catalysts like Komarov are back...we are simply not ready to change to a puck possession system....AKA Chicago (with their poor hit differential)
@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 If you have a team made up of skilled players, physicality is not that necessary....where as....if you have a team made up of 3 skilled guys and a bunch of "Ham and Eggers/Joe Junch Pails" an element of physicality is absolutely necessary to even the playing field. Try playing organized hockey Cam, I've played on many different teams both top skill in the league type, and "Johnny Punchclock" teams where they only way we could be competative was to grind the skilled teams down. No offense, but sometimes the game is, in face, exactly about physicality and intimidation. You work with what you've got...
@LeafsGuru @Bernier_The_Boats @Yaknowwhat agreed..
@LeafsGuru @Bernier_The_Boats @Yaknowwhat I have always had high hopes for Fratts since Burkie signed him...tons of potential but always a question mark related to his maturity as a man...throwing stuff out of his dorm room window in college and such.
@LeafsGuru @Bernier_The_Boats @Yaknowwhat Wouldn't it be nice to kill 2 birds though..
@Burtonboy @Yaknowwhat I also like the physical game that Frattin plays. He's not afraid to take the body, which is also an upgrade on Raymond..
@Yaknowwhat Frattin was a Hobey Baker finalist...there is no doubt he can put the puck in the net...If he can find his old form, we will have found lighning in a jar...hopefully this will replace Raymond' goal production.
