@Tim Horton or keep the core pieces (gards) trade other for assets (perhaps reimer?) and replace others with internal prospects (Marlie players). Welcome to cap management!

@GeorgeCastanza @Bobsyouruncle @Maneet4 @skiingallday it is player over team goal!
@Bobsyouruncle @Maneet4 @skiingallday Ok no point in debating with you. Carlyle is stupid and stubborn because he put players into roles this past year that obviously didn't help us out. Gotcha. We should have fired Carlyle to ensure Grabo returned to being a great 50 point player he was the previous two years where we missed the playoffs.
It all makes perfect sense. Thanks!
@GeorgeCastanza @Maneet4 agreed.
@GeorgeCastanza @Bobsyouruncle @Maneet4 @skiingallday exactly my point so why keep them. Especially Grabo at 5.5 million.
@Bobsyouruncle @Maneet4 @skiingallday ok that is not the point. Grabo had a crap year and did not fit Carlyle's system. And the one year he shits the bed the Leafs make the playoffs!
Let that sink in for about a second: in Grabo's worst year the Leafs had their best year in a decade.
The fact is, on this team Grabo is a 3rd line player and if that is the role the coaching staff has for him then is it worth to pay a 3rd line player 5.5 million? And then screw up our pay structure for Bozak, Kadri, and other players moving forward. Our 3RD LINE! center would be our 2nd highest paid player.
Makes no sense. We need to step back and look at it from a team building and system perspective. Grabo is not a fit for this team. And quite frankly, one player (Especially a non-superstar) isn't bigger than a team.
@GeorgeCastanza I like McClement taking faceoffs at centre
@skiingallday Grabo is NOT better than Bozak on a Carlyle team at 5.5 million. Why don't people get that?
@Tim Horton @GeorgeCastanza not really. Cap is going up so Phaneuf won't get more than what he's making now and we need to pay Kessel 6.5-7.5 so it'll be a raise of 2 million. Therefore if the cap goes up 3-4 million which is not a lot we would be fine.
@Bobsyouruncle what are you smoking? This coach is the ONLY one who got this team to the playoffs in the last DECADE!

@Cameron19 @Maneet4 @Loric76 I agree but am responding to a hypothetical.
@Cameron19 @Maneet4 @Loric76 you gotta improve your team and if opportunities present themselves you take them.
IF we get the Duchene offer in March (trade deadline) would you as a GM say "geez I can't b/c i traded 3 low draft picks for a 3rd liner so i won't take on a franchise type c now"
come on you know things are fluid.
@Cameron19 @Maneet4 @Loric76 but after this season sure
@Cameron19 @Maneet4 @Loric76 he can play the wing too.
@ShotgunCharlie instead of being stressed now why don't you let it happen first? lol
@Loric76 @Cameron19 WAY too much! Kadri is special and should not be traded for Duchene.
@Cameron19 @Loric76 simple Bozak moves down to 3rd, Kadri/Duchene 1/2.
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs @Radar O'Rielly I'm taking shots more at poster here and bloggers on this site that have deemed his release as doomsday and a sign of horrible things to come in terms of our short/long-term success. Which I honestly have to say I am disappointed in. Nothing against Grabo. He worked hard, was overpaid and new coaching system doesn't fit. It's really simple and Nonis moved on.

@moimoi fans here are so short-sighted! but its part of the passion and fun of being a sports fan!
@Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs @Maneet4 @Radar O'Rielly yeah thats true. All teams that need a true franchise C will wait and not sign other C's like the Bolts and Wings...oh wait... lol
