Agree Jimmer was not a good fit with Kings. Sure Jimmer had some weaknesses but disagree with "too many weaknesses". The main problem was there were too many guards and too many similar type shooting guards (type, size, etc). Jimmers's shooting and passing arsenal were never allowed to flourish until Jan this year. With consistent minutes (though very limited), we started to see what Jimmer can do. If Jimmer is ever allowed to have a consistent 15-20 min a game, he will amaze and his weaknesses will seem minor.
I have heard nothing but good about the Chicago Bulls coach (Thibs), so I expect the Bulls to bring the best out of Jimmer. Also, looks like Jimmer's agent is starting to really watch out and help Jimmer.
Wish the Kings the best. The new management is just what the Kings needed.
7 months ago on A final conversation with Jimmer Fredette
Looks like Jason Thompson is the next Kings player to get the "jerk around treatment"; a starter getting 5 min is weird unless Malone wanted to send him a message. Won't be commenting further on this or Jimmer but it will be fun to watch how the team does the rest of the season and Malone's decision making.
Sure enjoyed this website, James and Jon are class reporters and analysts.

Only 4 Kings remain from the cast of last year; the problem is 3 of the 4 (Thompson, Cousins, Thomas) are starters all three years. So really not much has changed. You can only blame the supporting cast (bench) so much. The starters play MOST of the minutes and the pattern of win 1, lose 2 just keeps chugging along. The Kings have a long way to go to turn things around. Would not be surprised if only 1 or 2 original team players are here by next Oct.
People keep writing that Kings have wasted lottery draft picks for last 4-5 years. I agree but not because the players are underwhelming. The main reason is the black pit/culture they were drafted into. I have no doubt that all of the draft picks from Cousins to Ben Mac could have thrived in a different environment. This is a huge challenge for the new Kings management and I wish them the best. Thanks for finally letting Jimmer go.
7 months ago on WATCH: Pete D'Alessandro on potential Jimmer Fredette buyout
I don't disagree with you. Jimmer never had a fair chance nor a good coach to guide him thru that tough first year. The real turning point was the beginning of the 2nd season when Jimmer had such great improvement and was playing better than Brooks and Thomas; And Smart still kept Jimmer at 3rd string. I too believe Jimmer could be as good or better than Thomas with the minutes and support that Thomas got. Here's to the future.
I am not as down on the new Kings management as some Jimmer fans are. Although I wished Jimmer could have been traded much earlier in the season, he benefited by improving his defensive capability and understanding by a defensive minded coaching staff. Plus his offensive skills have skyrocketed. This adversity will only make Jimmer stronger in the long run.
I even understand why Kings kept playing Thornton, they were desperately trying to get rid of his contract and kept hoping Thornton would turn his season around.
The Kings and Jimmer just were not a good fit thanks mostly to Petrie and the Maloofs. The only good combinations, Jimmer/Tyreke and Jimmer/Vasquez were never given a real chance together. Thomas beat out Jimmer, good for him, but having Thomas, Jimmer and Thornton on the same team was disastrous especially with no supporting team defense.
My biggest beef was Smart and Co. in two years would never set up offense for Jimmer (taking advantage of his shooting skills) or give Jimmer a real test run of 10-20 games. That was the height of arrogance or ineptitude by Smart. I know Smart is a nice guy but he could not mold a team.
Most of today's chatter on the internet have to do with what type of team will Jimmer sign with; a playoff team that he might be able to help but would probably see limited minutes, or a team like New York or Philli where Jimmer could probably get 20 min per game and help make it fun for the team and Jimmer.
What does it when people say "if Jimmer clears waivers? Does that mean some team could grab him at his full salary and then Jimmer does not have a choice?

7 months, 1 week ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Sacramento Kings at Denver Nuggets
I understand what James is saying on the podcast about McCallum being a different player with some good defensive potential and a different player type than Thomas and Jimmer. Thomas and Jimmer are similar in many ways (and Thornton too) which has been the problem for 3 seasons. But I don't understand why the Kings did not trade Jimmer earlier in the season. My take; they got greedy trying to package a bad contract with Jimmer early on, then when Jimmer played well in January, Pete even said, we will take our time, then they waited too long and the other teams said no, we will wait until Jimmer is a free agent. So Jimmer continues to be abused and insulted by this selfish and greedy organization.
Denver really missed out by taking Brooks instead of Jimmer. Brooks was terrible tonight for Denver. Can you imagine what Jimmer would have done with 32 min!
I think you are right on most points especially #6. The Kings will take care of their two young players (something Smart neglected except for his fav IT) and take care of Gay, Cousins and Thomas. Nobody else matters.
Based on the Bulls and Knicks games, (the last 2 of 3 wins for Kings) it is obvious that Jimmer could help the Kings win more games if given decent minutes the last 28 games, the fans would enjoy it more; but this is counter to the Kings goals. So for the 3rd year in a role, Jimmer is the whipping boy to the Kings desires. I am not saying Jimmer would be an all star, but he would surely be a better higher value player if the Kings had committed to develop him. His limited/decreasing minutes have been outright embarrassing.
Jimmer is shooting lights out and will only get better and his defense is improving. The TOs will reduce with more time on the court and good coaching.
7 months, 1 week ago on Jimmer Fredette talks NBA trade deadline and future with Sacramento Kings
Interesting, Sacbee reporting Terry will not join team. Malone is sure to try Outlaw at the 2 guard but its up to Jimmer to convince Malone that would be a mistake. But at least the door is open for Jimmer to get on the floor
7 months, 1 week ago on Will Jimmer Fredette see reduced minutes for the Sacramento Kings?
This is a business but it is also an entertainment business. Hope there is still good entertainment for the fans the rest of the season. I am very tired of watching one on one BB.
Jimmer had his biggest high of the season last Wed and proved he could deliver a couple of clutch shots down the stretch. And today has to be one of his biggest lows. But two months is a long time and I imagine there will be more highs and lows and surprises for Jimmer and the rest of the team.
From Malone comments tonight, sounds like Jimmer is going to get the big bench treatment again, no min. Really sucks what this org has done to him.
Since I am not a true blue Kings fan, I wish them a loss for every game Jimmer sits the bench. I also hope the fans at the game continue to yell for Jimmer to get into the game.
Don't get me wrong, I like most of the players on the team
Based on Malone's comments after practice today, sounds like Kings intend to not play Jimmer much the rest of the season; intend to give McCallum the minutes. The Kings intend to torture Jimmer right to the end. Too bad they just don't buy him out or waive him.
Jimmer's 3 year career with the Kings can be characterized mostly by 3-6 minute insertions into a game where he had to play amazingly or be taken out. In spite of that, Jimmer has progressed offensively and even defensively. We will never know what Jimmer could have brought to the Kings if he had been given a real chance (say 18-24 min a game) for a good stretch; and if his offensive talent would have more than made up for his defensive shortcomings.
Its also really sad that both times Jimmer was sick this year for a game, Malone took advantage of the situation to demote him. Malone had to backtrack during the Bulls game and play Jimmer to save the win. I guess we will find out how this second demotion plays out in the next few games.
7 months, 1 week ago on CK Press Box Report: Golden State Warriors 101, Sacramento Kings 92
Who knows the reason Jimmer wasn't traded. For the first part of season, it seemed management was trying to add a bad contract with a Jimmer trade, and now it looks like teams are not wanting a two month rental for a soon to be free agent.
One thing I do know is that Jimmer was a major contributor to two of the last three Kings wins (Bulls and Knicks). Malone said Jimmer was crucial in putting the Bulls away and said we don't beat the Knicks without Jimmer. So Jimmer has entertainment value for the fans the last 28 games and can even help them win a few games. But will Malone even give him a chance? Boston game on Sat will be the first clue.
I agree with you, Jimmer was sick, you could tell it in every movement. He was listed as questionable before the game. Too bad for several reasons, Kings needed a few 3 pointers from him and this could very well be his last game as a King. Tomorrow will be interesting.
7 months, 1 week ago on Poll: What is the Sacramento Kings' biggest need at the trade deadline?
I hope I am not an idiot. I don't think the Kings should get rid of Thomas. But as Cowbell Kingdom pointed out, he and Jimmer are too similar a player (shooting PG). I would not be surprised if Kings do not match the offer Thomas gets in the summer similar to Tyreke last summer. I wish the best for all three players but they are not a good fit on the same team.
With Malone today stating his priority the rest of the season of developing McLemore and McCallum, sure hope some of the trade rumors involving Jimmer today have substance. What a travesty if the Kings just sit Jimmer the rest of the season or give him some token minutes.
I think Malone is right to want to develop his new young players. Sadly Smart never gave Jimmer a chance even for a 10-15 game run to see what he could do. Its time for Kings management to make amends.
There have been a lot of comments made that indicate Jimmer's efficiency will go down if his minutes go up. I don't believe that. Players, especially shooters do better when they can get in a rhythm. So Jimmer could easily double his minutes and shots taken and actually do even better. Agree that at some point, say 40 min per game, there is a weariness that becomes a negative factor such as has been happening to Thomas the last 6 weeks. Also, if a player is too successful, the opponents game planning will focus more on that player which will also affect productivity.
But if Jimmer can play this well in spite of limited minutes (sometimes only 3-4 min a stretch) and constant jerking around, I for one thinks he will only get better and better with a constant 20+ min rotation.
It would be best for everyone if Thomas, Thornton, and Jimmer are on different teams. None of them may be on the Kings very long. Agree, there are a lot of bad fits on the present roster.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Poll: What is the Sacramento Kings' biggest need at the trade deadline?
One thing the Knicks game and many games before that has taught is that the bench needs to step up for the Kings to win. The so called big three cannot win games by themselves. So here's hoping Jimmer, Williams and McLemore can start having more consistent big games. In Jimmer's case, that means more minutes.
7 months, 2 weeks ago on WATCH: Jimmer Fredette scores career-high 24 points in Madison Square Garden
If Kings don't trade Jimmer and then sit him in favor of getting McCallum some min, then I agree with you. I know this is a business but it is time for Jimmer to get some consideration because of his classy way of handling the situation and his potential.
Some great comments below on both sides of the argument concerning Jimmer. Lets go for a hundred comments.
Reynolds always uses the term "limited minutes" in reference to Jimmer, mostly saying Jimmer is playing good in limited minutes. This is what's grates on us Jimmer fans. We who have watched Jimmer play for years knows what he is capable of and would like to see if he can become a good NBA player. I think Jimmer is improving rapidly and if given decent minutes would continue to improve.
Jimmer may not become an all star but he will be a good and dangerous player and he brings more fans to the NBA game. Its a shame that the Kings did not have good coaches that were committed and strong enough to develop Jimmer and Tyreke together along with insisting on team BB. Jimmer would be much further along and the Kings would be winning more games. But the consolation is that adversity is making Jimmer work even harder and I like the improvement. Like to see him get traded to a playoff team this week and see what happens. Go Jimmer, go Kings, but too late to say go Jimmer and Kings together.
Kudos to Coach Malone. He cares about the players and went the extra mile to express support to Jimmer after his mini slump the previous 3 games (ex. text message to Jimmer saying he still believes in him). Then Malone left Jimmer in the game the last 4 min of the 2nd qtr and the middle of the 4th qtr when Jimmer wasn't doing anything outstanding. Man did it pay off when Jimmer hit two 3 pointers late in the 4th qtr. The Coach is growing and the team is growing. Its hard to have patience but there is progress.
Sure Jimmer is inconsistent and tries too hard at times but what an upside. He can do special things in the space of a few minutes. That's why many Jimmer fans (and Kings fans) would like to see him get more consistent minutes and see if the upside happens more often and inconsistencies smooth out.
Jimmer has added some great short shots to his arsenal and has made some nifty passes, but his biggest weapon is the 3 point shot and Jimmer has to take those shots like he did against the Knicks.
It was also fun to see Gay, Thomas and Williams take over the OT and seal the win. That's team basketball. One person cannot dominate the entire game.
Should be an interesting next 7 days. Trade Jimmer or keep him the last 29 games. Cannot even guess what will happen.
you are a good Kings fan, still hoping things turn out good for Kings and Jimmer in the long run

I agree with James and Jonathan's comments on the podcast above. Thomas had a nice game overall, did not force too many shots and did well against Wall; the bench the last couple of games leaves Jimmer stranded beyond the perimeter and does not help him or set any screens (poor offensive sets); Malone should have left Gray in longer (that guy can set a screen and clog the paint); and Cousins has to improve his attitude or he will never be a great player or an all star.

I am sorry, what is "MDA"
Ok by me, lots of teams need a good shooter, and with the right fit, Jimmer can do well. Thomas then gets down to 30 min where he is most efficient.
Yea, Thomas got his 30 pts. He was the best of almost everything tonight on both teams; most points, most shots taken, most minutes, most assists, most TOs, etc., etc. And the Kings lose again.
One thing we all can agree on (for different reasons), Jimmer needs to be traded tomorrow. He is no good for the Kings and for himself to only play 5 min and take one shot. The 3pt shot went in and out and Jimmer's night was done. He also had one TO in his 5 min (so did Thomas in his first 5 Min). This is a terrible situation for Jimmer and the Kings.
James Ham said the same thing in the above podcast. Doesn't make any sense not to put Gray in. The bench would have performed better and Kings would of had a chance down the stretch.

Thanks for the insider information and the sarcastic "waived". We shall see.
You can tell from the comments on this article and from various sportswriters recently that the glow around Thomas is cracking. We shall also see how Thomas and Malone handle the last 32 games.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Isaiah Thomas faces growing pains as Sacramento Kings starting point guard
Thomas is better this year and he should be. He has worked hard and been given the most playing time of any player on the Kings for almost 3 seasons. But he has not helped his team be better and has hurt the development of Jimmer. Thomas was more aggressive and confident than Jimmer the first year and took full advantage of a rookie coach. And he is doing it again this year. If you take away some of the garbage time Jimmer was allowed to play in, than Thomas has played more than 5 times the minutes in an average game.
I still think as a # 10 pick Jimmer deserved a real shot at developing a back court combination with Tyreke. It was a good fit and what he was drafted for; and an experienced coach would have maximized that potential and by this 3rd year Tyreke/Jimmer would have been a dangerous backcourt. Thomas would have been a great 6th man and the Kings would be overall much better.
Jimmer is a better teammate and works hard to get others involved. With more development and the right players, Jimmer will exceed Thomas in making the team better. We have seen the beginnings of this in several games in January with Jimmer, Derrick and Ben along with the big guys. Against Boston it did not work with different players around Jimmer. But that is the exception the last few weeks.
It is too late for Jimmer to make enough progress on the Kings with Thornton, Thomas and Outlaw on the same team and with a rookie coach that does not truly understand offense or willing to take the time to develop Jimmer. So I hope Pete will let Jimmer go in the next week. But you can be sure that Thomas will not be the starting PG next season, the Kings are committed to building a play off team.
Several coaching decisions tonight that really caused the loss.
Thomas plays better at 30 min, so the coach really needs to try something different.
I agree Jimmer and Thomas together not good except for short stints because of defense.
We have seen Jimmer play good SG and PG and some not so good, He just does not get enough court time to improve much. But he is starting to show some really nifty shooting moves and passing moves. I still think Jimmer will be dangerous and help a team with the right fit. but it is not the Kings.
I think Jimmer makes Ben and Derrick better most of the time when they play together, but it will be interesting some day to see who makes Jimmer better.
Forget about Layithatefulman and his silly hateful comments. He is just trying to stir the pot. For those who would like to really understand what's going on and what is wrong, listen to this podcast and the other commenters.
This loss belongs mostly to inexperienced coaching and not knowing how to use the players strength. Gray could have stopped Sullinger tonight just by clogging the center and hacking a few times. Cousins was double and tripled teamed but there was no Jimmer or Ben to pass out to for easy perimeter shots.
Several sportswriters have finally figured Thomas out and said he is a super 6th man at best. He tries to play the hero (shooting 25 times) instead of making his teammates better. I bet James has it right, he said if Thomas does not figure this out over the next 30 games, he will be making $4M instead of $7M next year. I can't see Kings giving Thomas $7M.
yes, tonight it did, but why? Many times the bench has played well. There is some good talent, but they missed easy shots and there were some poor offensive sets. I would have liked to see Gray out there, as he would set some nice screens for Jimmer and Ben.
Ok, Jimmer added no value tonight. But two things have amazed me now for two years and I have heard opposing commentators and sports writers say the same thing many times.
1. The Kings can't or won't set up offensive plays for their best 3 pt shooter. James Ham also said once, get Jimmer to shoot at least five 3 pt shots per game. Malone could have easily given Jimmer some time at the 2 spot tonight.
2. Jimmer does not even get to stay on the floor long enough to get in any kind of rhythm; very short lease. Jimmer has to play outstanding or he is immediately taken out.
Ok, Jimmer haters, your turn. But I think there is enough talent on the Kings, Jimmer included, to win more games. So this is really a org and coaching problem.
Thx, I know you guys are always on top of it.

Sactown royalty just reported Rudy Gay out with flu. This is probably Thomas getting it and passing it along the chain to Jimmer and now Rudy. One commenter on Sactown said "Great, Isaiah just passed something". Love the humor.
Hope IT and Jimmer both have good games tonight.
Thx for info, a good month, Jimmer should only get better.
Has anyone compiled Jimmer's stats for January? His last few games have been real high, but I was curious about January since he started playing regularly (albeit limited) minutes.
Bizarre comment dude
7 months, 3 weeks ago on CK Press Box Report: Sacramento Kings 109, Toronto Raptors 101
Agree, Jimmer does need to take responsibility. He played a great 2nd qtr, that rotation and sequence worked well helping get the team to +18, too bad only 6 min of court time, the team was really rolling.
Jimmer was too timid in the 4th qtr and the rotation just did not work I guess he thought his only job was to bring the ball up and hand it off to Cousins or Gay. He should have been more aggressive. There was very poor ball movement and forced shots. If there is one knock on Gay, it is the unwillingness to pass in the 4th Qtr. But at least Jimmer help provide good floor spacing in his 3rd stint the last half of 4th Qtr, Toronto had to respect his shot. I suspect a little more court time and Jimmer will be just fine.
I think we are hoping in vain. Jimmer just can't break that 6 min ceiling in the the 1st half no matter how good he plays. Jimmer should come in near the end of the 1st qtr like most other teams do it and get 9-10 min, especially when he is playing so well.
Well Jimmer helped stake the Kings to a 18 pt lead midway through the 2nd qtr, now we will see if they can hold on to it.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Game 49 Preview: Toronto Raptors at Sacramento Kings
Maybe Jimmer was not 100%, but the sad thing is if McCallum had played better, Jimmer would not have come in at all. How many other opportunities have bypassed Jimmer because Malone really does not know whether to commit to Jimmer or not. With trading deadline coming up I hope the Kings can make a good decision. The worst thing possible is if they decide to keep Jimmer and get nothing for him at the end of the season, and just keep him on the bench while trying to develop McCallum.
Despite your past comments, Jimmer has trade value. I hope this works out the best for everyone. Thornton is the real mystery and I sure can't see a team taking a chance on him for $8M.
7 months, 4 weeks ago on CK Press Box Report: Sacramento Kings 99, Chicago Bulls 70
They are also doing better helping each other on defense. Twice last night, the Bulls PG got around Jimmer and Acy cut him right off. It was good also to see Jimmer return the favor against the Bulls guard and really torch him.
Malone admitted last night he wanted to give McCallum a chance based on previous game, luckily Malone came to his senses late in the game. He even gave Jimmer credit for making the big difference in the last Qtr. Its obvious Malone does not want to get Jimmer too involved since he won't be with the team next year (kindest thing I can say about Malone's treatment of Jimmer); maybe even traded within the next 2 weeks.
I have never seen a player on such a short lease as Jimmer has been the last 3 years, but Jimmer is class and showing toughness and constant improvement.
This is not about Jimmer but two rookie coaches (Smart and Malone) trying to find their way and Jimmer is in their way. Hopefully resolution is coming quickly. A shame because Jimmer gets along well with his teammates and they are starting to jive.
It is hard to trust Malone. I can hear him going up to Jimmer before the game and telling Jimmer "we better give you a few more days to get well, Ray can handle this"
The Bulls can't hit the broadside of a barn, they could sure use a good 3pt shooter
7 months, 4 weeks ago on Game 48 Preview: Chicago Bulls at Sacramento Kings
I hope Jimmer is not feeling full strength otherwise Malone is a biased idiot. McCallum was terrible and totally stagnated the offense in the 2nd qtr. The last two games Jimmer played he was great in moving the offense and getting guys involved besides shooting well.
@Jim Les for 3 @KennethBrody@layituplikeaman
For starters, If Thomas would cut down on the 3pt shots, the team would be better. He has averaged 8 3pt shots per game the last several games and hit about 2. Thomas is deadly at shorter range and if he sets up teammates more often, the shots will fall.
7 months, 4 weeks ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: San Antonio Spurs 95, Sacramento Kings 93
@Jim Les for 3 @TABDOG
Won't happen, Thomas will be lucky to get $4-5 Mil per year. He does not make the team better and that will still be a good payday for a top bench player.
Okay, it boils down to this. Thomas is too tired and because Malone does not trust Jimmer or McCallum, the situation is just going to get worse, especially since Thomas thinks he is Superman. So, it is time for Kings management to stop trying to get the best deal and move Jimmer now and get an experienced backup PG. This will help Thomas and the Kings grow, and Jimmer can restart his career. Jimmer will be fine if he can just get away from this bad fit/situation. But Thomas will continue to slide if something does not change very soon.
