Its time to play Jimmer again for a few games. The last time he helped the Kings win two straight games. Against the hapless Jazz tonight, Kings would even get more cheers if they played Jimmer. What I am afraid of (and also hopeful) is that a Jimmer trade is imminent and Coach Malone does not want to integrate Jimmer into the rotation only to see him go.
So far the Kings are worse than they were last year; less wins, but they are at least not getting blown out as much.

Sacbee article today says Malone keeps considering starting IT but likes him as a spark plug. I think Kings should start him. Vasquez and Jimmer as a 2nd unit would be much more effective than the current rotations. But you can be sure they won't try it and give Jimmer a chance.
There are also several articles each day around the country lately that are pushing for various team to grab Jimmer as he will help them. Kings have had their chance and it has not been a good fit. Time to free Jimmer now. Even as a fan favorite, Malone has not played Jimmer at home much. I think they are trying to wean the fans off Jimmer, so it won't be a big deal when he is traded.

Totally agree. Jimmer gets a few measly min and has to look good immediately or he returns to the bench. In addition his only playing option is with Thomas who will keep the ball himself 3 out of 4 possessions.
Jimmer is counting the days he can get out of Sac and will get his chance soon. But I wonder if Vasquez isn't feeling the same way by now. Even when he has a good game, it is Thomas who mostly plays the 4th qtr and tries to be the one man show. In fact the 4th qtr consists mostly of the same group that has lost so many games the last 2 plus seasons (Salmons, Thomas, Thornton, Outlaw, Cousins, Thompson and Patterson).
Everyone seems so high on Thomas, and he had a great 4th qtr yesterday. But in the last 5 games (all losses) he has had only about 2 really good qtrs. He was a big part of at least 3 of those losses (playing the most min and making the most mistakes). So far, Malone's rotations, lack of commitment to the 1st unit and Thomas's style of play has not made the team better. Sure, Thomas will get a big paycheck next year with his stats, but will he make any team better?

Has anyone noticed how well Tyreke is playing lately for the Pelicans. He is starting to play at an all star level. What a difference a change in teams makes.

One more thought on Thomas, he took three shots in the last 2 min of game trying to be the hero (as usual) instead of playing team ball and missed all three. So poor shooting and 7 TOs, that's how you lead the team to defeat.
Malone needs to commit to Vasquez as the main PG, not Thomas. IT has had three poor games and has been one of the main reasons the Kings have lost the last 3-4 games. Coach Smart made the same mistake, liking IT's fighting spirit and personality, and overplaying him. The first half was terrible, poor passing and multiple TOs. Thornton had a good 2nd half (helped that Outlaw was not playing), so that means Jimmer will keep sitting for several games even though Thornton will follow with mediocre games and Kings keep losing.
It is so so frustrating that even though Jimmer outplayed the other guards a year ago (Nov/Dec 2012), Coach Smart chose IT and Thornton. The result was a 28 game season. Malone is following down the same path. Can only imagine how much better a team the Kings could have been if Smart had given Jimmer a chance to develop and lead the team. Passing and team offense would have been so much better. Then Malone would just have had to teach better defense. This team is still a mess and Jimmer has lost over two years of development. If the Kings want a better team now, they need to trade IT, Thornton and Outlaw. If not, please hurry and trade Jimmer so he can start a real NBA career. There is no reason Jimmer can't be the 3pt threat that Curry is.
Neither Jimmer or Thornton will play effectively as long as they are in a rotation with IT and Outlaw. The only solution for Jimmer is to get out of town as fast as he can. Jimmer will eventually be a better overall player than Thornton (ball handling, passing, shooting, even defense).

Agree, respect IT for the fighter he is and the energy he brings but he is a shooter first, selfish, and does not make the team better. I also think there is no way that IT will allow Jimmer or Vasquez to to have a better game than him when he is on the floor with either. IT is just too competitive and considers them as challengers. He will give them a fancy pass occasionally. Vasquez is starting to have good games and seems to play better when he can lead the team w/o IT on the floor. I am waiting for Jimmer to have some explosive games but it won't happen until he is on the floor w/o IT (and Outlaw). Sadly, we will not see the best of Vasquez and Jimmer on the Kings.

Best of luck to Derrick, was a great player in college. So Kings management hoping change of scenery will do him good. There is no doubt that the right fit (system, teammates and confidence by coaching staff) can make a big big difference. Can't wait until change of scenery happens to Jimmer.

And it does not even sound like Kings got rid of one their bad contracts or excess guards, unbelievable. Is there a master plan or is this just a chess game where the management keeps trying to trade up for better pieces and hoping the end result works out?
1 week, 4 days ago on Luc Mbah a Moute making swift transition into Sacramento Kings starting unit
@al asifyouknow @Cowbb
I like Vasquez and Moute both. If the Kings committed to them and brought in a good small forward and back up center, they could make some real noise. As a Kings fan, they need to really break this present team up to change the personality. The bad culture won't change until Salmons, Thornton, Outlaw and even IT are gone.
As a Jimmer fan, he won't blossom until he is on a different team. He is in a terrible rotation now with IT and Outlaw; all shooters. Jimmer is the most willing passer among them. When Hayes or other big men are on the floor with Jimmer instead of Outlaw, Jimmer has done better. Jimmer is working very hard on defense but his offense is starting to slip, maybe trying too hard.
I don't like IT paired with Vasquez on the floor. Its hard for both, IT is not used to being the off guard and Vasquez will do better being in control. Jimmer would actually do better with Vasquez and I hope Malone will try that combo soon.

The Kings are still not sharing the ball very well and the two PG (IT, Vasquez) are taking too many shots.

IT played a great game overall but he did not play very good the first 5-7 min, especially when Jimmer was in with him. I do not think that combo is sustainable. I watched that section of game over again in the interest of seeing why Jimmer did not play well. Jimmer was definitely overmatched defensively and missed his only shot (an easy 3pointer). In fact, all five players on the floor looked out of sync defensively. Jimmer has been playing improved defense this year but his real contribution and the reason Malone is trying him out in the rotation is his shooting. But IT chose to shoot early and missed 3 shots instead of getting the offense going and making good passes. Jimmer and others were open several times but to no avail. Later in the game with a different rotation, IT made lots of good passes, assists and shots. It would be good to see Jimmer play with Vasquez and see if that combo would be better. Maybe IT should be the starting PG.
Jimmer usually plays well against the Lakers, I hope Malone gives him a few more games to see if he can get into a good consistent groove. if Jimmer does not produce, then he has had a good chance. But in all the years I have been watching Jimmer, I have never seen him go more than 2-3 games without having a offensive explosion. He is due.
1 week, 6 days ago on Road Reaction Postgame Show: Los Angeles Clippers 103, Sacramento Kings 102
I think it will be very hard to move Thornton this year because of his ridiculous contract. Since there are too many guards and Jimmer would never resign with the Kings, my bet is Jimmer is gone before Christmas along with at least one bad contract (ex. Salmons or Hayes). Even IT could be traded if they could include a bad contract and get someone really good. Malone has made some really good player rotations the last 3 games and the Kings are competing. If Malone keeps Thornton on the bench, I think they will compete every game, but I am guessing he won't do that to Thornton.
Agree, we should be thinking of the team. Neither one of these guys will carry the team very far by themselves but Cousins has the most potential. They both are playing very aggressively and are passing the ball less. Its almost a contest of who will be the one to save the day. Great teams play as a team.
2 weeks, 2 days ago on Poll: Who has been the Sacramento Kings’ best player?
Agree, IT seems to pass less than previous years even though Malone has made it a priority. As long as IT remains paranoid (he has admitted that in an interview), he will keep this team from getting much better. IT tries to do too much at times. Is he trying to save the team all by himself or just getting better stats. I like his hustle and energy but think the team would be better if he played more team ball. He is a PG but most of the time looks for his own shot.

Jimmer played two games straight and Kings won twice including their first road win. Jimmer is starting to shake off the rust and increase his confidence. Needs to shoot more but that means others passing to him. Don't like Thomas, Jimmer and Outlaw on court at same time, not the best combo. Would still like to see Jimmer and Vasquez together on the court. Did not understand Thompson sitting the last qtr and Outlaw playing. Thompson played very well tonight and Outlaw had the worst +- number tonight (-7).
I just want to say to Cowbell Kingdom staff that I enjoy your thoughtful analysis on the Kings. Thanks for letting us fans make comments. Sacbee just put out a new article a couple of hours ago on "the same old Kings" and what management is trying to do. Sure sounds like it will be Dec 15 before any big trades might happen. Sacbee quoted D’Alessandro as saying "We’re trying to massage the roster and develop our young players.” Sounds good, but what many of us fans are trying to understand is why isn't Jimmer included in the development whether they keep him or trade him?? Most sports writers across the country seem to think Jimmer has a place in the NBA and he certainly has worked hard to improve his game. The Sacbee article also states the Kings entertainment value is really bad right now. That I know Jimmer could help improve.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on So you want to coach the Sacramento Kings?
Agree, Jimmer may not be the best defensively but it sure looks like he has improved. In two plus seasons, Jimmer did not play enough to cause the enormous losses. The truth is we don't know if Kings would have won more games if Jimmer had been given a consistent role. Jimmer did help the team win a few games last year and because of his explosive ability, I think with real playing time he would have developed an offensive rhythm that would have more than made up for his defensive and height weaknesses. Jimmer is also a better on the floor teammate than IT, Thornton and Salmon.
Agree completely. It is a real tragedy that neither Smart or Malone would give Jimmer that 10 game run. With Smart, he could not solve the team jealous feelings over Jimmer and chose to favor the veterans even though Jimmer was rapidly improving. With Malone, he wants defense first, so he is not willing to give up a few more points by playing Jimmer even though Jimmer's offensive upside, effort and teamwork might make a big difference. Giving Jimmer a shot would certainly be entertaining to the fans and they would not be any worse as a team.
