Still don't understand where the info is coming from that suggests we could pick better than 24th. The rules on NHL.com states 24th is the best we can do.

I'm a bit surprised that Nonis said there was more interest in Phaneuf than Kessel the the trade deadline.  This spells trouble if in fact we end up moving both.  Can't expect a good return for either OR the market changes in the summer with more teams having cap space moving forward.

So, is the SSM team full of older players?  Otters rely on two 17 year olds in CMD and Strome.  Just wondering why they Soo are so good this year.

@MaxwellHowe @Radar O'Rielly Agreed.  There's no incentive for them.  There may be something in an all-star type event that would be used to determine it however.  Since there's already an all-star game they could have reps from each team duke it out in different events to determine the draft order.  Kinda like they do with baseball all-star game determining the home field world series.

@BPsotka @traNsplantEdneWfie @Burn_the_Loov_Boats But you can't name a playoff division.  The shear fact that there's a team from a wildcard spot thrown into a bracket completely negates any divisional setup.  They are now just brackets for the purpose of eliminations.

@Burn_the_Loov_Boats @traNsplantEdneWfie Divisional winner simply means the team that won their division in the regular season.  There's no mention of divisions once the playoffs begin.  There are no playoff divisional winners.

For those of you that missed this earlier.  And let me say that according to the way the rules are written on the NHL.com website this is black and white.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope to clarify the draft order for everyone.

The first part is obvious as it is a part of the draft lottery....

i) First the Clubs which failed to qualify for the preceding playoffs in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest points total and followed by the Club having the next lowest points total, and so forth.

This part is also obvious....

iv) The Stanley Cup winner shall select last, thus, positioning all Clubs on the list.

Next let's take a look at this clause...

iii) The Clubs which had been ranked first in their Divisions during the next preceding season (but had not won the Stanley Cup that season) in the order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.

If NYR wins the cup the order for 27 through 30 remains like this

* Divisional winners

*30. NYR

*29. Montreal

*28. Anaheim

*27. St. Louis

If someone else wins the cup the arrangement changes to this

**30.  Stanley cup winner

*29. NYR

*28. Montreal

*27. Anaheim

*26. St. Louis

Now, let's take a look at this clause...

ii) The Clubs which participated in the preceding playoffs (but had not been ranked first in their respective Divisions and had not won the Stanley Cup that season) in order of points earned by each of them in the regular schedule of the preceding season starting with the Club having the lowest total points and followed by the Club having the next lowest total points, and so forth.

So, this clause explains that no matter how the remaining clubs finish, unless they win the cup, they will remain in the following order.  Therefore, Nashville will pick 25th unless 1) They win the cup OR 2) They pick 24th if a team below them (like Chicago) wins the cup where Nashville will then pick 24th.

26. TB

25. Nashville

24. Chicago

23. Vancouver

22. NYI

21. Washington

20. Minnesota

19. Detroit

18. Ottawa

17. Winnipeg

16. Pittsburg

@Luke_R @Jay_Berg Not always.  Strength goes away as you get tired - weight doesn't.  Weight allows you to use your body much more affectively in positioning and winning puck battles.  If I can steal a quote from gear-heads "there's no replacement for displacement".

Nylander was last listed at 5'11" and 170lbs.  The fact that he's 189lbs at the end of the season is very significant.  Usually guys are heaviest going into training camp by bulking up during the off season and then lose weight while getting into optimal game condition.  So, Nylander will probably go into camp in September at or around 200lbs and end up with a playing weight of 192-193lbs next year.
