@RugbyLeagueFan @sammasaaron @hamfists Serge and Adams can't defend the perimeter either but can defend the paint. Which is why you keep Serge back and send out Kanter. Again, coaching matters.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free I think you're attributing a lot of offense that happened when Perk was off the court to him. And a lot of our team defense to him as well. I simply do not agree with those assumptions. And the fact that we're playing .500 ball without KD and Serge is pretty damn impressive to me and would never happen with Perk.

Edit: also, seriously, go look at Al Jeff's previous defensive numbers. From the Jazz, everyone thought he was just a one-way guy and is now playing big minutes on one of the best defenses in the East. I'll try to track down the Lowe article.

@Pancakes and Blouses  @sammasaaron @f5alcon @Paul Pogba To Arsenal 2015 Bowen hit daggers. That's what made him super infuriating. Imagine if Danny Green did Beverley things. That was Bowen.

You just have to understand, I've seen him do this crap to Dirk. Like risk awesome players careers with his bullshit.

@Pancakes and Blouses  @f5alcon @Paul Pogba To Arsenal 2015 A lot of my friends are Mavs fans, so I've watched a lot of Bowen against one of his big rival teams. He was awful. It makes me feel dirty that I agree with his commentary so much.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free I think that you're comparing a player in Perk who's been in bad and good offenses on this team, to a player in Kanter that's only been on one bad defense here.

I understand what we're looking at. My problem is you basing Kanter's defense on this stretch and suggesting it will never improve.

As I mentioned somewhere else, Al Jeff used to be a terrible defender until this Hawks team. I think Zach Lowe wrote an article in which all the same things were said about Al as are said about Kanter. Not to mention Kanter is very young.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free It's not about individual defense it's about team defense. If Kanter comes off the bench, a la Harden, his shit D isn't that big of a deal. Serge next to him allows funneling ball handlers which means Kanter doesn't have to stay in front, just wall them.

Furthermore, we're asking him to show on PnR and switch because Brooks doesn't adjust system to player. I'm not saying Kanter's a good defender or ever will be, but you can hide his deficiencies in a way you couldn't with Perk's offense.

That's different than saying it will happen, because I have 0 faith in Brooks to use him properly.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free And I think the defense can be fine with Kanter in the rotation. Nothing you've said has indicated that he will hurt our D when healthy.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free So your point is that because Kanter is starting due to injury we rely on his D in a way we didn't rely on Perk's O?

We had to rely on Perk's offense early this season and it was a disaster.

7 hours, 29 minutes ago on Close En-Kanter: How Enes has been better in OKC

@hamfists Or his efficiency would be up and his defense wouldn't be as noticeable since we'd have better defenders on the court.

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free I think there are two aspects to this: 1) Yes, Kanter is a sub-par defender. 2) He's playing in a scheme that magnifies his defensive shortcomings rather than hiding them.

I really think people are overreacting to his defense based on this stretch. We're missing 4 rotation players, 3 of whom are starters.

7 hours, 35 minutes ago on Close En-Kanter: How Enes has been better in OKC

Reply

@Jabb0310 @sammasaaron @The Dream Is Free That makes more sense, but I don't agree. Kanter has yet to play with a healthy roster for any stretch. Perk had healthy KD and Russ making his offense look less terrible.
