@stholeary I agree that they are much more interested in the sitcom, but they're still trying really hard to get FS1 going and they have so far been a non-factor.

My only real problem w/ the author's counter argument is the idea that Erin Andrews is famous because she works hard. I'm 100% sure EA works hard. I'm also 100% sure that she's famous because guy's think she's hot. It's not fair to rip her for that, but I think the author needs to admit that reality. Also, is Pearlman really that impressed w/ Oliver? That example seemed like a way of fending off any accusations of him being sexist.

Hard to hear all this "bias" talk from Yoder. I mean Yoder and crew are blatantly Ohio State and B1G biased, hence the superfluous mentions of fictional conspiracy theories to make the SEC look good.

@Kurt Johnson Your 3 examples of how baseball "screwed up" probably haven't had much impact on baseball's ratings at all. I doubt they've affected your opinion even. It seems like you just don't really like baseball (or basketball for that matter). No one that likes baseball AT ALL would complain about series going 5 or 7 (which is really actually minimal and series rarely go the full 7). There hasn't been a work stoppage since 1995. That has no impact.

It's posts like these that make me want to tell Yoder to just hit the mute button. I mean I know this is "Awful Announcing" but if the narrative chatter bugs you enough to make you not watch then you should just watch w/o sound. I almost never have the sound on when it's Buck and McCarver. Been doing it for years. I only turn the sound on when Twitter blows up with something stupid that they said.

And who cares if they go on and on about the teams being gritty? The Red Sox are just doing what teams have been doing forever: trying to find something to rally around. And the Cardinals really are tough to beat. It's not just a cliche. They've been one of the toughest outs in the PS consistently now for years.

And these ARE two of the best fan bases in baseball and fans DO matter. You're telling me that the number of people affected by a win or a loss isn't important? Or that the size and energy of a crowd doesn't raise the excitement? That's just silly. It's different when the Sox or Yanks or Cards or Cubs or Dodgers are eliminated then when the Rays or Marlins or Padres are eliminated. It just seems to matter more (because it actually does matter to more people).

Yoder needs to just get over it or turn down the volume and stop reading mainstream columns.

@JDKsports Why didn't you just say all of that the first time?

#1 I didn't think the call was bad. Sorry, but that wouldn't have even been illegal if Kronwall hadn't lowered his shoulder just as he was about to get checked. Not sure how McLeod is supposed to hold up.

#2 Kronwall wasn't dead; he was knocked out. He wasn't lying motionless, he was moving the entire time.

#3 Yoder and other media members are hyper sensitive to any perceived insensitivity over head injuries. Yoder says awareness of the seriousness of these injuries needs to be raised. As if we don't hear enough about it 24-7.

#4 My point about sports like boxing and MMA was not to criticize those sports. It was to question why it's no longer PC to enjoy big hits in team sports, but it's not taboo to cheer ringside while 2 heavy weights attempt to KO the other or buy an MMA fight on payperview and watch 2 guys attempt to knock the other out or force him to submit due to threat of having an arm or leg broken.

#5 The fact that it doesn't normally happen is irrelevant in my mind. So you're saying the fact that guys get knocked out MORE OFTEN in combat sports makes head injuries less taboo in those sports? And this is totally different from a basketball player falling hard while trying for a board or a baseball player getting hit by a pitch in the head. This is a collision. This is very much a part of the sport (or at least it has been for a long time) and it's part of what makes the sport exciting.

#6 My main problem is I'm just tired of the concussion police acting like we should treat every possible case of a concussion as if the player could become a vegetable unable to control his bowels at any minute. Repeated head injuries are dangerous. Every one knows that and should have known that long before concussions became the single most talked about aspect of sports. But we don't need to act as if every person who gets shaken up has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

I don't understand why they would ask some talk radio host to write for the website anyway. But he should be fired. This isn't just lazy. It's not just using someone's article as a guide and not crediting them. It's taking someone's entire piece and saying that you wrote it. I think at that point you at least have to make the guy find another job.

The sports of boxing and MMA are nothing but the celebration of life threatening hits. Why is it just team sports that AA and other media freak out about? The whole point of boxing is to render the other fighter unconscious. Does Yoder want people not to cheer at boxing matches?

I think it's hilarious. Orakpo was in a frigging Geico commercial. Now he wants to take himself seriously. It's not a normal name for a 65-year old white dude to say. Deal.

My favorite team is the Atlanta Falcons. I have no care for the Steelers. And it WAS a needless cheapshot. Calling Roethlisberger dumb (which the author did in some other words) has nothing to do with this stupid graphic. And it's a fairly innocent, silly graphic that didn't require an AA post.

Not that bad at all. Certainly not worthy of a column. And thanks for the needless cheap shot at Roethlisberger.

@stholeary Yes, there are times when you have to bite the bullet and just hit the mute button, but I actually do avoid certain announcers and I also watch games because of announcers. Quick example: if there's a Fox baseball game on that doesn't involve my team and Thom Brennaman is calling the action, I won't watch it. Period. On the other hand, during the NHL playoffs there were times when I had other stuff to do but if Doc, Enzo and Pierre were calling the game I would keep it on.

I really loved this article. Sometimes I forget that Twitter can really be its own little universe. I mean if you aren't on Twitter what are the chances that you watched Sharknado?  What are the chances you even heard about Sharknado after the fact? I'd say really low.
