@dook83 @cardboardcllctr  I did. And my point was simply that even looking at just the money, I wouldn't be surprised if Cally was unhappy he couldn't get more cash during the negotiation process.

While I think Callahan was asking for a little too much in terms of a extension, I bet it pissed him off seeing Slats sign guys like Richards for so much money  - but not budge on a quarter of a mill on homegrown talent that's given it all to the team.

Doesn't matter to AV. MDZ "preferred" to play a certain side and I think we all remember what AV said after.

Perhaps a negotiation tactic by Sather to try and get Girardi to bend to Slat's price? Make it look like no other team wants to pay a premium for him, hence his extension shouldn't be as high as he wants?  Push come to shove, you know G will be moved if Slats doesn't think he'll re-sign.

Reddit also doesn't like it when people post about how the opponents weren't exactly the hardest to play against. I see my friend's comment was downvoted to the point it's hidden bc it was true (Sens weren't playing well from their 1st period penalty box parade, to third period).  All rainbows and butterlies over there at the moment.

Which is why I responded to Mando's post and not yours? His post said the current Canucks roster "has won" and cited presidents cup as an example. Whether they are better is debatable.

Kesler, not Kessel, who according to some underperformed under AV. Sedins as "grit and tough"? That's why people laughed when Torts said they'll block shots, right? Come on man, don't tell me you've never heard of the "Sedin Sisters" taunt.... As for Bieksa, he's rugged - just like Dan Girardi was in the last few years.

After 30+ games, I think it's just time to admit that Torts is helping his team (and good on him) while AV either needs to change his system, or Sather needs to get AV players who can play the new system. It's not only on AV and Sather too, the players threw the old coach out, now its tme to perform under the new one.

Torts' roster in Vancouver right now is not the same roster AV had in Vancouver. At the moment, they have no 4th line (Welsh/Sestito/Dalpe/Weise, who are all NHL fringe players), no wing to play with the Sedins (Burrows is out), no All star Defensemen (Edler is out), no lockdown Dman (recently injured Ryan Stanton).
Their 3rd line often consists of 2 "new guys" (Richardson, Santorelli) and their 2nd line features 1 "star calibre" player (Kesler) with 2 guys that have struggled elsewhere (Higgins, Booth).
On D, they have Hamhuis and some younger Dmen (Garrison, Tanev) who are beginning to play to their potential. His last pairing is Andrew Alberts and Yanick Weber (aka 7th dman and fringe NHLer who spent time up until recently in Utica),
Let's not kid ourselves here and give the man credit. He's got his guys running right now. That is not AV's Nucks.

I know it's not exactly the Ranger's fault for the terrible template or the design, but those blue armpit/side stripes that bleed into the bottom stripe are just terrible. It reminds me of the Hartford Wolfpack jersey and also the Buffalo 3rd jersey. Lucky for us, the jersey isn't two-toned but what a design gaffe there. The solid blue stripe at the bottom also just makes the jersey look unfinished (in my opinion at least).

AV has fault in this. Sather has fault in this. The players have fault in this. It's the combination that's caused the floundering we're witnessing.
AV: He's said a few things in the past that has made me scratch my head (ie He's heard MDZ is better than this, he didn't watch tape before training camp). I've been told that this was just him posturing in the media etc , but when he says enough of that type of comments, it gets annoying. It makes him sound unprepared, and as if he's shifting blame to whoever was supposed to watch the tape and tell him these things. Based on what he's saying, it sounds like he's beginning to change his system - willingly or not. It's frustrating though, to think he might have spotted the signs earlier if he did know the team better instead of fully believing whoever told him that they were all likely capable of adapting.
Sather: Not enough moves in off season to get a roster that fits AV's mould more. When he signed Pouliot, I thought that was "the start", as in we were going to see more "skill" guys being brought in and some "grit" being moved out. Either Sather bought into the players telling him that Torts was holding them back, or he himself thought they had enough skill to play AV's system. It's obvious now that some of these guys don't, so he has to work with the coach to begin getting him some pieces.
Players: In the end, it's up to these guys to execute on the ice. Some guys (and not just Pouliot) look like they have their heads in the cloud at times. Leadership group needs to stand up for the rest of the guys and go to AV to discuss any problems they're noticing.

I think the thing that bugs people is not that Asham has been recalled, but it was Miller who was sent back down to the Pack.

I've always suggested looking into Girardi for Edler. Both Dmen who are under performing in the new systems they've been placed in, and both representing what their old coaches want. Edler, Offensive Dman who has the capability to move the puck well, Girardi the shut down guy Torts wants on his top line. Cap hit is roughly the same, though I think Edler has a few more years on his contract.

Anyone else get pissed that Richards laid on the ground and cried for a penalty while play went other way (and eventually, a goal?). Give the refs an earful after the play (which he did) , not in the middle of when you can brush yourself off and get back into the play as back checker. There was no guarantee Tampa would have scored on first shot.

@MikeBlue Right. Because Torts will break up his top line for Michael Del Zotto. The Sedins-Kesler is their bread and butter line. If you had said DZ for one of their dmen with bombs from the point - I'd give it a little more credence.

@shoot_the_goalie Not good to hear about the coaching confusions (1 guy waving, 1 guy giving stop). You'd think out of every one in the building, the 3 guys behind the bench would be the most coordinated in tense moments since they're the brains behind the planning. I can see why Hank look frustrated when they panned to him.

Richards passing play reminds me of the stuff he did last year, being backhand passes to nobody. I know, as you mentioned, Richards said he liked playing Center more - but he needs to pick up his game there for be moved again, as much as he doesn't "like it".

@shoot_the_goalie @KreiderisTheChosenOne @Kevin DeLury Hank definitely has the right to critique his teammates. That said, not clearing the puck is a common mistake that many players make regularly. if Hank's going to yell, he should be yelling at every single guy in front of him who doesn't do it. Just the issue is if he's singled out Miller.

@Melissa (blknblueshirts) @JoshKaye IIRC, since JT's recall, he has spent most of his time in the bottom 6 lines. Therefore, this doesn't seem like an ice time issue.  If we're just waiting for Dom Moore's return before sending Miller back down - why don't we call up an AHL veteran to do the press-box warming? At least that way, Miller isn't sitting in the pressbox for a week or so while he could be playing down in the A?

@SA24 Exactly. The players are adjusting from a very "hands on" approach to a "hands off" approach. I'm not saying "Blame only AV, he's so cold and these lads aren't being taught". The leadership group in the room needs to  step up if the general feel in the room is that they need more guidance in the transition period.

As I told somebody else, this may explain the early struggles. It's like asking students to mark their own exams with an unclear marking scheme.

While Torts probably didn't hold the guys' hands, he probably "reminded" them very often of their mistakes - even if he expected them to see it. This was probably what got on the rooms' nerves after so many years.

In any case, it's still speculation for what's going on behind close doors, but I hope both sides fix whatever isn't working. Leadership group in room has to stand up to AV and say "we need a little more guidance" , and if that happens, AV has to accept that he needs to be more hands on than he likes even if temporarily.

Just speculating (aka 0 insider info), but if Montreal wanted Kristo to bulk up and he didn't  - combined with his few gaffes in recent years at college - I could understand if Mtl's patience ran out. So they trade Kristo for Thomas, who I think I've read is a workhorse on and off the ice, and everyone's happy.

Kristo's pass shows, if anything, he may have questionable judgement when making decisions... off the ice. As long as he doesn't pull some Avery-like distractions, and of course hoping he matures up, his past shouldn't be a problem.

@johnnyb3910 @KevinDeLury @cardboardcllctr  As much as Messier has done for the organization as a player, I don't think - as johnny mentioned - his experience post retirement in the organization (and also the 2 teams he's put together) is enough during this time when the team can make a serious push.

Also, it would seem to create the idea that, even at the very top of the organization, connections over experience or paying your dues (in the related field) is how things should be done. Just how I would translate the move, if it happens, of course.
