@Greg Fenton Anyways i have to go, but I'm sure we can both agree that Stamkos would look great In a blue and white jersey that doesn't have "BOLTS" sprawled across the front.

Reply

@Greg Fenton @colino17 Yeah but $ is not the only reason a player will sign somewhere. If Stamkos wants to play in Toronto then $1m more won't change his mind, especially when the $1m is on top of another $12.

5 hours, 43 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Greg Fenton @colino17 Well Nylander and Brown are still unproven. JVR is awesome but there are four wing positions in the top six. Even as good as Stamkos is Kessel is overpayment if you expect to sign Stamkos the next year. You're basically giving up your best player because you are impatient.

Ideally you trade for a much lower price at the trade deadline before he goes UFA, after Stevie Y realizes he can't resign him

5 hours, 49 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

@Greg Fenton Or do a Kessel for Tavares kind of deal and wait for STamkos in FA

5 hours, 54 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@MaxwellHowe @Greg Fenton This, if we are trading Kessel I'd want to bring in some other player as well to play beside Stamkos

5 hours, 55 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

@Greg Fenton I wouldn't give up Kessel in the a trade if you expect that Stamkos would sign again the next year anyway.

5 hours, 56 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

@Greg Fenton @colino17 But they also don't have much cap room to go out and find those guys

5 hours, 59 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Greg Fenton @colino17 I dunno, I just hate the idea of tying up so much money i one or two players. Just look at Pittsburgh with two of the best players in the game (both of which are centers which is arguably one of the most difficult positions to fill) and they have trouble surrounding them with a good team because of their exorbitant salaries.

6 hours, 1 minute ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Greg Fenton @colino17 I'm talking cap hit. Salary means sweet fuck all really. What really matters to the team is cap hit.

@Greg Fenton @colino17 Ugh, that's the nasty twist of the knife you could have came up with. Couldn't you have just let him go to Phoenix for $15m?

6 hours, 4 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Greg Fenton @colino17 Well i said 12 max, which is more realistic now given those guys got 10.5 each.

6 hours, 5 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Greg Fenton $12m Max, would prefer $10m, although salaries are just getting ridiculous and are not growing in proportion to the cap. The cap goes up $4m and you get 4 guys each thinking they deserve $2m more than they would have deserved the year before.

@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 @colino17 Problem with these stats are there are so many other factors i.e. level of competition faced

7 hours, 2 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Reply

@Cameron19 @Greg Fenton If I'm understanding these stats properly they are comparative and relative (increases or decreases compared to the rest of the team). Therefore a good four line team will not have many players with exceptionally high or exceptionally low stats.

The same will hold true for a bad four line team, with no one line being considerably better or worse than the rest of the team.

@Greg Fenton @colino17 @Cameron19 Yeah I can't comment on how easy or hard Bodie's job was, just that he seemed effective when he was out there.

McClement is interesting too, because he was arguably given the hardest starts all season and still came out positively.

7 hours, 11 minutes ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

@Greg Fenton @Cameron19 Not strictly defensively, but anecdotally I always found that Bodie forechecked hard and did a good job winning puck battles in the offensive zone corners and behind the net.

@Jordan29 @colino17 @Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs I like the possibility and he is fueling the flames more than players usually do, but I don't want to get my hopes up. It seems like this stuff happens every year where we think some big name will leave their team, and then they re-up for 8 years.

Trust me, I'm praying that he decides to come here, I'm just not expecting it like a lot of people.

@Cameron19 It's probably fair value. Maybe even excessive. But with all the press lately I can see WPG overvaluing Kane and being tough to deal with.

@TheCanucksnaphook @LeafFan15 @Mcost61 Agreed. Nobody seems to realize that these kids need to make the jump eventually. I always hear people on here saying "not to rush the kid", and "he could use some more time in the AHL" for players that are 23-26. Eventually they need an opportunity. They need to earn a spot, but saying that they should be in the AHL just because they are younger than other guys is just silly.

@MaxwellHowe I think it's close to being fair value. The 2nd rounder might be pushing it but:

Reimer > Scrivens

* Scrivens fills our backup need perfectly

Franson/Holzer gives them two guys that can step in on D whereas Nurse is still probably a year or two out

* Nurse is the real prize that we are trying to pry away

Arcobello > Ashton

* Good young player for the bottom six

@MaxwellHowe Because realistic expectations for 2nd rounders is that they will develop into a player like Franson in 4-6 years. Every once in a while someone grabs an absolute stud but it's usually pretty rare, and seemingly even rarer for the Leafs to get so lucky.
