"They know what's up;every time they get on the ice, it could be their last."
I agree that they are strangers and don't care about the fans, but I think you are crazy if the players want to play in a league where every game could be their last. No one wants that and if they have to tweek the rules to make the game safer they will. They won't miss you when you are watching baseball.
You need to get some perspective. Every time they talk about changing the rules doesn't mean they are getting rid of hitting.

This type of game really has no place in hockey. I can't see how a sane person would think this was a great hockey game. This was an unfortunate incident that is a result of a professional sports league that has no control over its players. The NHL is truly lucky that Max Talbot was not seriously hurt or even dead last night.
I am not a fan of fighting in hockey. Never have been. But if it has to be there I have no problem with heat of the moment stuff. At least that makes sense to me. It is clear to me that the Islanders premeditated this tonight. They wanted to start as many fights and take as many cheapshots as they could. They did this because they are classless, there season is meaningless and the NHL is a joke when it comes to handing out suspensions. The biggest joke is that Dan Bylsma gets suspended. I know its because Godard came of the bench, but for once I think Godard was justified in his actions.
I thought the point of fighting was for players to police themselves and enforce respect among the players. After tonight, it is clear to me that fighting does none of that. Fighting is just there for plane entertainment value. If anyone tries to tell me that fighting serves any kind of purpose like enforcing respect among players I will always point to a youtube video of 2-11-2011 Islanders vs Penguins. Yes I watched hockey in the 70s and 80s, and there is a reason they changed things. I didn't like watching 4 hour hockey games that had two bench clearing brawls.
The Islanders orginzation is classless and they entire team should be suspended for 10 games. Seriously would anyone miss this team, no goes to watch them anyway. I guess at least a game like this is the exception, not the norm.
@nlatterman @deleted_11399_walterflanagan Wow, nlatterman. You are an idiot. Who are you to tell people what to watch. Anyone that thought that was good hockey has a mental disorder.

Godard is a waste of space on the penguins roster.Brett Johnson is 6'4", I think he had it under control.I don't blame Godard for what he did though.
Will someone please explain to me how players policed themselves last night? There was a fight followed by a cheap shot, followed by a fight, followed by a cheap shot?
Can someone explain to me what was proven? Wasn't the point of fighting to make players respect each other? I saw very little of that. I would love a logical explanation for a person that think fighting in hockey is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
