Move Letang to winger on the Crosby-Dupes line and reunite Kunitz with Geno and Neal. Nisk and Despres can still provide good puck movement from the backline. That leaves 5 guys to battle it out for 4 defensive-D man positions.

 Why would you be so certain that the A6 gearbox/tranny "is terrible"? I would most definitely expect it to be a derivative of the solid A6 gearboxes from the Corvette and Camaro. And you contradict yourrself by complaining that 400 hp will never make it to the road properly yet say that a V8 that big should make way more than 400 hp! As for the engine, I've been very happy with the low 425 hp output of the LS3 in my Vette. I'm not a fan of chrome or satin trim but that SS interior is not even close to atrocious or cartoonish.
