@furryfoxman Technically, the game should REALLY be called BAYONETTA 1 & 2.

The success of this title should also lead to improved support from Koei Tecmo.  Hopefully other thirds in Japan follow suit gradually.

Well I've already preordered bAYONETTA 2.  I WANT to see the third party situation improve on WiiU, but more importantly, it's a GREAT game that deserves to find an audience.

@KcebEnyaw I hope you're right about that.  The more units sold, the better our chances of getting more games, and the more thirds in Japan will give it a second look.

@BlakeWigert There's still an opportunity for some of these thirds to change their mind in the event WiiU hits better results at the end of the year though.  In fact, this September's sales for WiiU have actually been 130% above last year's September in America alone.  65k were sold in America that September; this year it's about 80-85k.  Also, HYRULE WARRIORS is a success, so that means potential support from Tecmo Koei.

On a sidenote, I DO hope BAYONETTA 2 and FATAL FRAME help the WiiU for the rest of September.  Seeing it drop in numbers isn't a very good sign, like at all.  It's now dangerously neck and neck with PS4.

@RedRocBoy Well of course I want to support third parties on WiiU. In fact I've been rooting for them to return in the event WiiU sales finally get to the point where it's tempting (sometime in 2015 at most).  But I don't approve of them being so hesitant to release games on WiiU, particularly titles that would be perfectly suited to the audience on it.  WiiU still has some years left to go; hopefully some thirds will give it a second look.

@ShawnLong85 @PBZReviews I personally don't buy that theory; it smells more like incompetence on Ubisoft's part.  They HAVE made a lot of dumb choices over the years, this is one of them.  But why would they intentionally set something up to fail? They've spent millions of dollars already making this port.  At the very least you'd think they would want SOME profit from it.

@RedRocBoy Regretably it may be too late for that.  Already people on Playeressence are having a "call to arms" to make gamers boycott the game out of spite for the way Ubisoft has been acting towards WiiU.  Now I understand the rage, but IMO, boycotts don't solve ANYTHING.  They just make things worse.  I'm holding onto my purchase, but I'm still dialing my expectations backwards.

Actually, that's only true in the "WiiU Games" category.  Not all time.  In WiiUGames it's #3, but all-time it's still stuck in the 45-57 region.  Hopefully the ranks will increase when the release date comes near.

@DevinChristopherNorris Except I think it WOULD have been better for PROJECT CARS to release on time instead of delaying it, because that will still impact sales in a bad way.  Now I really don't care whose fault this is that it's delayed, but I feel that it and WATCH_DOGS may have trouble on WiiU because of these decisions.  Should BAYONETTA 2 perform well, though, I wonder if such thirds will have to look again and see that gamers want a GOOD quality game, not a rushed port.

I agree; they released the WiiU TOO early.  Rushing it to the market and not having a killer app game was a mistake on Nintendo's part.  (Of course it didn't help that the media was predisposed against it from the start and all the false information about WiiU's capabilities that caught on like a plague either.)  If they had, we wouldn't be in this mess.  Oh well, at least they're taking steps to correct it.  Advertising is taking a big step up, and MK8's sales and WiiU's worldwide sales are consistently better year over year.  Since MK8, WiiU has been selling about 60k worldwide average weekly.

That's a HUGE difference from last year, when WiiU hardly had ANYTHING to drive its sales and it wasn't until August or July that we saw PIKMIN 3, and even the effect of that was temporary.  Same thing's true with ZELDA WINDWAKER HD and SM3DW.  Oh well, all three of these games are going on to be long tail successes anyway (even lesser known titles like LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER and MH3U are still doing solidly).

@Fresnokila If there's one area that I agree that Nintendo could step up on, it's the content for VC.  Too small for gamers IMO.  Playing these classics on the Gamepad (I always die on the SONIC games!) would be a treat.  Ditto for the classic SNES FFs and CHRONO TRIGGER and SECRET OF MANA.

@KallumSmarties @JonTurner Before that comes Wii Sports Club.  I don't expect that to sell much, but I DO hope WiiU continues to do better in sales in Japan AND outsell PS4.  That's the only way we'll get more third party support over there since we obviously can't depend on the West.

@KallumSmarties Not just Level-5.  I extend that offer to ALL Japan third party developers.  Nintendo NEEDS them.  It's the only way we can sustain momentum for WiiU.  The MK8 effect seems to have dried up, so it's time for something else.

Now THIS is the sort of attitude third parties NEED to have on WiiU.  Have confidence in your own project and stick with your guns, don't bend over backwards to place a vocal minority who demand it be a multi plat on other systems who wouldn't buy said game anyway (e.g. RAYMAN LEGENDS and DEUS EX WIIU).

3 months, 2 weeks ago on Itagaki Feels Devil's Third Will Be Successful on Wii U

Sorry but anyone who seriously believes PS4 is going to outsell WiiU in Japan is going to be in for a very rude awakening.  The PS4 is still stuck at 500k units.  Seriously, name one title that did anything to "boost" PS4 sales in Japan.  MGSV:GZ had zilch impact.  WATCH DOGS did nothing for it there.  FFXIV did nothing.  The PS3 versions of all three outsold their PS4 counterparts.

At this point, PS4 has no system-pushing titles for Japan until at least FFXV, and even then that game is so far off (seriously, late 2015 at most), that by the time it releases, WiiU will be well and ahead of PS4.  The success of MK8 proves that there is hope for WiiU.

Anyway, great news for MK8.  It deserves those sales and then some.  May it lead to a better future in Japan.

@MANGANian @JonTurner The Western third parties I gave up on, but the folks in Japan, absolutely not.  SquareEnix still left KH3 and FFXV open for WiiU, and Nintendo DOES have better relations with those guys over there anyway.

I'm not saying Nintendo should get everything Sony and Microsoft have, on the contrary.  Just some of those multi plats.  I'm not talking about CoD or AC.  But there HAVE been titles that thirds have left open and there are some who hinted they might return when the system picks up.  It's fine if you think Nintendo should give up on these thirds, but personally, I am against that practice.  Yes, EA and Ubisoft are deplorable and I wouldn't necessarily pursue them, but others, like Capcom, Activision, SquareEnix, Namco, Sega, and Atlus, and Nordic Games are still worth pursuing.  I don't think Nintendo should give up on thirds altogether, just the more stubborn ones.
