I have to say that I am quite hopeful for this E3. I was pleasantly surprised to hear about the Tantalus game and Activision seeming to port CoD III on WiiU. I know some people want Nintendo to say "screw third parties and go first party instead", but seriously, that's not a viably safe idea. I for one welcome more third party games on WiiU. Speaking of which, I want to learn more about the Tantalus port as well as the surprise third party exclusives Nintendo supposedly saved ala Bayonetta 2".

@veigelsd You do have a point, and yes, those games WERE letdowns. (Although I can only speak for WATCH DOGS because of the three you mentioned, that's the only one I played. It's an OK-ish but not really great kinda game, which makes the disappointment for it understandable).

I applaud Nintendo for trying to make the best game they can, I really do. It's just that I wonder what else Nintendo will have for their lineup this year to make up for this loss?

@ThomasStensland @JonTurner But Nintendo is pushing/marketing SPLATOON like crazy. It COULD be a huge hit and a system seller. Plus, XBCX is guaranteed to be a system seller in Japan (the XBCX bundle in Amazon JP jumped into the top ten for a time after it was released. That's an indication it'll sell like hotcakes come April 29th).

2016, probably not, I don't think it would be a good idea to launch the console that soon. They'll need to make sure they really prep the system and make it ready to go and not just rush it out the door. That was the major mistake with WiiU, in addition to not having a must have title. While I still believe Nintendo should try to get third party support for their next console, don't slack off in releasing big first party titles either. The real reason why WiiU faltered year one was because Nintendo delayed a lot of games again and again and again, and the hot titles really weren't as huge as they could have been. So my suggestion to Nintendo is: build up must-have titles first, THEN release. Kaboom ,the system takes off, and thirds will want to jump on the train. 2017 might be just about right.

@Zteking Probably because they're afraid of losing money. They don't want to gamble on a system that they feel will not be worth the return investment. JRPGs cost money and time to make, and given that WiiU so far has yet to be a proven ground for JRPGs, it's up to XENOBLADE X to be a smash. Fortunately there are hopeful signs that it will be.

Everything that is in this article is absolutely true. The success of XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X could very well see third party publishers decide to port similar projects to WiiU. This game succeeds, we could very well get another KH. Or maybe DQXI. Maybe even an exclusive FF. But this game is absolutely crucial to succeed; if ANYTHING is to change, this game must be a hit.

Period.

I wouldn't say the WiiU is devoid of RPGs altogether; aside from the VCs, we've seen CHILD OF LIGHT, PIER SOLAR HD, CITIZENS OF EARTH, and ALPHADIA GENESIS. Now granted this IS a small start, but the success of XBCX could spearhead WiiU as a JRPG platform. Fear not, though; the game IS highly anticipated in Japan; the XBCX bundle was in the top ten for its first week, and it's not often a WiiU bundle gets into the top ten in anything Amazon, period. So there is hope.

Does it stink? Yes. However, that doesn't necessarily mean we won't get another "Resident Evil" on Nintendo platforms. If Capcom really didn't want to put RE on Nintendo platforms after RE2 didn't do so great on N64 they would have stopped a long time ago. But they didn't. They still gave gamers the RE series on GameCube. And three entries on Wii. Even a WiiU port of the 3DS game in question! So I haven't given up on seeing another Resident Evil on WiiU or 3DS, or Nintendo platforms in general. But is it disappointing that this game is not confirmed for either 3DS or WiiU? Absolutely.

I absolutely triple this.

I too, wish to see a new TALES hit WiiU. TALES OF SYMPHONIA was one of my favorite games of all time, and Baba HAS said that "nothing's impossible" when asked about WiiU potentially getting a TALES from what I remember. Granted he doesn't have plans, but still, things CAN change. Given that Namco Bandai just had a success with SMASH BROS., I can see them slowly stepping it up.

I've also mentioned repeatedly that I want to see KINGDOM HEARTS 3 on WiiU. C'mon, this is a series that is perfectly tailored to the WiiU fan base. That SE has yet to respond why they have yet to announce a WiiU port is also infuriating. Luckily there IS a movement you can join to help make it possible.

Despite falling from grace so many years ago, I'm still sure that there are some gamers who would still like to see FFXV. Now THAT one is a wild card. It COULD turn out to be OK, but it could also turn out to be a train wreck. Either way, the return of this franchise to a Nintendo platform is long overdue. If not then at least a new FFCC. But who knows.

WiiU absolutely NEEDS DRAGON QUEST XI. Given that WiiU's about to receive another update to DQX 3.0 in the same time that XBCX is about to hit, hopefully that will bring more of the JRPG audience to the system.

Either way, WII NEED MORE JRPGS!

@daywreck @JonTurner @airsyx @atran4692 That game is still coming to PS4, though, and they're still doing console/handheld games, but only sparsely. That said I don't think they would refuse a second party collaboration with Nintendo. Especially if it proves to give them confidence that their game CAN sell on a console.

3 months, 1 week ago on Why Aren\’t These Games on Wii U?

Reply

@daywreck @airsyx @JonTurner @atran4692 The reason why it hasn't been on WiiU is because Capcom is actually not doing particularly great right now.

Remember how last year there were reports on how they were teetering dangerously close to bankruptcy? Well, that may have something to do with it. So I don't think it's just bias against Nintendo alone. Money is also an issue. If they're afraid to gamble on a system that so far has yet to provide a third party hit then of course they're afraid to do it. It has nothing to do with being against Nintendo. It's financial problems.

3 months, 1 week ago on Why Aren\’t These Games on Wii U?

Reply

@airsyx @daywreck @atran4692 I don't know anymore than you do, and like I said it's just a rumor. However, I think rather than assuming we won't get those games why don't we just watch and see how this plays out. Remember that Nintendo likes to keep things secret, and that probably includes third party titles as well. When they don't come out and tell us what's happening than we all go around in circles and make assumptions that may or may not prove to be true.

As for Konami, the problem is on them, not Nintendo. They've basically gutted all their main franchises except MGS and are taking it in the wrong direction. If they DO come back to WiiU they have to fix themselves too.

3 months, 1 week ago on Why Aren\’t These Games on Wii U?

Reply

@daywreck Here's the thing, too. We shouldn't go around acting like thirds were all intentionally trying to bury WiiU alone that got the system into its predicament. Nintendo, too, made its share of errors. Giving the system a name that baffled the public. Not doing a very good job of making said people clear about what it truly was (a new HD system? An upgrade?) Not hyping/marketing the console as strongly. Having their own launch lineup consist of two games that the public wasn't as crazy about in the same way that they were Wii Sports and Twilight Princess. Nintendo Land wasn't Wii Sports. Nor was New Super Mario Bros. U Twilight Princess. They did not have the same "OMG! Must have" impact that those two did. Doing little to silence critics of the console. Delaying their games in the launch window and having them release much later than intended.

More importantly: Launching the console before it was ready to go, period. And by that, I mean having its games hitting in a stream, not intermittingly. There were also flaws with the system itself, too, on opening week.
Did third parties have ANYTHING to do with those things? No, it was Nintendo themselves who did it. And WiiU suffered partially because of it. Yes, thirds DID make poor calls of judgment, too. But we shouldn't act as though Nintendo made all the right moves and did everything perfectly, because they didn't. Even Iwata himself admitted that.
That's why he's trying to get the system back on its feet, and in turn, convince thirds that it is indeed a viable platform to release games on. Nobody wants to make games on a system that is not guaranteed to give them a return on their investment. As for EA and Ubisoft, yes, both have gotten greedy and have made poor decisions. But not everyone in the third party industry is like that. Using those two as examples to castigate the whole third party industry as a whole is just as unfair as the treatment thirds have given WiiU itself.
In other words, all sides combined played a part in this mess. Not just third parties alone. Not just Nintendo alone. Not just the gaming media alone. It's a mixture of all the above. The answer to the problem is much more complex.

@atran4692 They were low, but… (SHHH!) Capcom is still working on something for WiiU. It COULD be an original RESIDENT EVIL that takes advantage of the Gamepad instead. OR, we could end up getting REVELATIONS 2 in the future. Who knows. Either way, don't write it off just yet.

But yes, Ubisoft IS going downhill. NO questions about it.

3 months, 1 week ago on Why Aren\’t These Games on Wii U?

Look, when you tell me that I'm "wrong" and that you're right, there's a problem here. The whole "hatred against WiiU" is only excluded to certain publishers, not the whole third party industry as a whole. If it was the whole industry then we wouldn't get Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, or Devil's Third. Nor even Rodea. So yes it's true that SOME thirds have grudges against Nintendo, but others have probably moved on.

There's nothing wrong with WiiU? Sorry, but that's not altogether true. There still are many things about the system that Nintendo could stand to do better. It's a great system, no doubt, but there are still improvements to be made. They're getting there though.

3 months, 1 week ago on Why Aren\’t These Games on Wii U?

No, the third party industry is not against Nintendo. They just want money, that's all. And if they can't make a profit they won't do it.

That said, yes, I agree with all those choices; they SHOULD be on WiiU. And hopefully they will be in the future. The console is doing better lately and hopefully some of those will hit on WiiU.

Add KINGDOM HEARTS 3 to the list. It needs to be on the WiiU.

Furthermore, there is a rumor that there are indeed some third party exclusives headed to WiiU (but take it with a grain of salt!). Namco, Capcom, and maybe SE are all working on secret projects for WiiU, but we don't know WHAT it'll be just yet. It's a rumor. So take it as such. But I don't think it's' as hopeless as you say.
