@Savo43 @BPsotka @T K O @Yaknowwhat I'd like to see the effects of just one NHL goal on Ashton's game. I bet he relaxes immensely.

As to Carrick, I'd like to leave him on the Marlies until a centerman goes down- because I don't doubt one will. Seeing as RC doesn't reward players as well (IMO) I'd like Carrick to stay down until RC is gone to be honest.

@Savo43 @T K O @BPsotka @Yaknowwhat I know it was just one game, but he was terrible. I've never seen an NHL (or OHL for that matter) player stay on the perimeter more. I don't think he engaged one player with the puck or had it on his stick for more than 2 seconds at any point during the game.

It just frustrates me knowing that while Ashton struggles to put the puck in the net, nobody can fault his compete level. And that is apparently what we lack.

We need 4th liners to be the most energetic.

@Yaknowwhat then he needs to sit Panik for lack of compete. Show Gardiner when to engage the forward and when to use his superior speed to simply get and skate away with the puck first.

Not tell them to "compete better". That's my opinion.

EDIT: Not that we actually know what he tells them I guess.

I thought Phaneuf needed to focus more on his game than let the opposition get under his skin. Too often was he jabbing back at Jurco/ Abdelkader, or somebody else.

When we needed somebody to step up their game, he was too distracted to notice.

Also thought Panik was the most perimeter player I've ever seen in an NHL game last night. Just never engaged.

@Mitch92 Duchene, MacKinnon and O'Rielly are on three really different levels though. That package might get us ROR, definitely not the other two.

(I want Duchene.)

EDIT: And I`m pretty sure they`d be in the market for defensemen along with a goalie. Not sure what a bottom 6er would do for them.

@mtommy @BPsotka @TheLoovTrain I wouldn't say that he's worthless to me. But, say, Holland and a third makes no sense to them. Really, if they're trying to get rid of a young forward at this point in  their as-yet-in-denial-rebuild, then they know something.

@mtommy @BPsotka @TheLoovTrain Nothing that would make sense to both teams. If they're too willing to trade him, I assume they know more about his head situation than me, and it isn't good.

I think he stands with his back too straight and is too easy to tip/push off the puck, and when he is taking an offensive chance just keeps our forwards away.

I bet its been mentioned, but from Friedman's 30 in 30:

28. The first of those goals came after Max Pacioretty walked around a flat-footed Dion Phanuef on opening night. A turnover put Phaneuf in a bad spot, but he does not look at all comfortable playing the left side, even though he shoots that way. (He prefers the right.) Toronto is determined to try it, and a couple of coaches said last week you have to commit to it for 40 games to see if it will really work.

@djamon @MaxwellHowe I think its been a group effort, and honestly I think Bozak has been the best of the three. JvR keeps ending up on the wrong side of the puck carrier, missing lots of checks and Phil seems to never have time on the breakout, and when he does make space for himself almost struggles to take advantage.

Of the mistakes I notice, or plays where nothing happens out of something, it is Bozak least of the time.

@Conis Phaneuf got off-balance defending from an un-used-to angle. Subban was caught flat footed in his own zone somehow; allowed Callahan free access to the front of the net.

If Bernier had been competent, nobody would remember the Phaneuf Pacioretty incedent.

@TheLoovTrain @colino17 I don't understand the goal of separating Bozak from Phil. I get promoting Kadri because he's looked dangerous and perhaps if he brings Lupul with him then he could finally break onto the first line; but Bozak's chemistry seems to be with Kessel rather than JVR.

Burke always gave the players somebody to play for. We need to give them reason, and they need to embrace it. I think Nonis and RC have treated many of them like shit, and we're feeling it now.

@Jmessih However, I still think it is the coach's job to make sure his players stay motivated and want to win. He had them doing it during the shortened season, we won games at that time by outworking opponents.
