@Dogger Look at how Phaneuf for Stajan, Mayers, and Hagman worked for the flames.

@vinoa @BPsotka @Alec Brownscombe @Mcost61 @newkb I think he's better than you think. He'd be #2 on Boston.
1 day, 16 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Taking on the toughs
@vinoa @Alec Brownscombe @Mcost61 @newkb Very few teams have Richards on a fourth line though.
@Alec Brownscombe @Bruffins One of my biggest complaints with RC is he doesn't switch up the lines enough.
@T K O @Mcost61 @Alec Brownscombe @MimicoHero Time on ice/ Corsi Against per 60/ Team Corsi Against per 60/ Individual - team Corsi Against per 60 (difference).
So compares how a player fares compared to their peers on the same team. Does not account for different roles between players, but does account for (which I incorrectly commented above) different systems, assuming the team corsi numbers include only games in which they played for their team.
@vinoa @Bruffins @Alec Brownscombe @MimicoHero I think they should not be used to compare players in different systems so often. Not really that they indicate team play.
@Bruffins @BPsotka @Alec Brownscombe @MimicoHero But these are possession stats that rely on shot attempts; something we haven't prized the last two years. It's been scoring chances priority.
@ingy56 @In it to Winnik Holy shit you're Hal Gill?
@Bruffins @Alec Brownscombe @MimicoHero Systems of the last two seasons being at fault?
@Xxxxxnew I haven't noticed him beat wide this season really. But he seems to miss assignments more on the left.
@Alec Brownscombe @MimicoHero Red is bad?
@mlclearwater That, I agree with. He shouldn't be used purely in a defensive manner, and the start of that is putting him on the right side where he belongs.
That said, he didn't get beat wide nearly as must last year when he was on the right.
@In it to Winnik Pretty sure Bernier with Riemer tomorrow against the Sens.
1 day, 17 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Taking on the toughs
@ProfessorRance @BPsotka @mlclearwater I think he has not. I also don't regret the contract in the slightest; I really think the left side is not for him.
@traNsplantEdneWfie "“I think talent-wise there’s not too much difference, to be honest,” Kadri said. “Johnny’s a guy that works hard and that’s something he’s learned from Day 1, so I’m getting my work ethic going and doing everything I can to be one of those players.”"
Interesting; I see it the same way. Odd that he identifies JT as working harder, and that's almost acceptable (or at least acceptable that he has worked harder up until this point).
@mlclearwater Maybe you've just read too many of those comments and been brainwashed.
I know you've been here for ages, and I'm sure most of your comments seem reasonable. I don't think this does.
@mlclearwater This comment would be less out of place on NHL.com or TSN.ca.
@mlclearwater Pretty sure Bozak is the one playing the most defense.
@Savo43 @vinoa @Mcost61 @ingy56 @Burtonboy I think we tend to spend more of them than get though.
They're far from worthless.
@whalz @loomx He was taken 1st overall because they didn't realize they could take Rielly.

@T K O @Yan28 There aren't really many usable numbers on him, because of his lack of opportunity.
4 days, 13 hours ago on Saturday Mashup: Round Two, Hopefully Better than Round One
@Savo43 @BPsotka @T K O @Yaknowwhat I'd like to see the effects of just one NHL goal on Ashton's game. I bet he relaxes immensely.
As to Carrick, I'd like to leave him on the Marlies until a centerman goes down- because I don't doubt one will. Seeing as RC doesn't reward players as well (IMO) I'd like Carrick to stay down until RC is gone to be honest.
@Savo43 @T K O @BPsotka @Yaknowwhat I know it was just one game, but he was terrible. I've never seen an NHL (or OHL for that matter) player stay on the perimeter more. I don't think he engaged one player with the puck or had it on his stick for more than 2 seconds at any point during the game.
It just frustrates me knowing that while Ashton struggles to put the puck in the net, nobody can fault his compete level. And that is apparently what we lack.
We need 4th liners to be the most energetic.
4 days, 14 hours ago on Saturday Mashup: Round Two, Hopefully Better than Round One
@Yaknowwhat then he needs to sit Panik for lack of compete. Show Gardiner when to engage the forward and when to use his superior speed to simply get and skate away with the puck first.
Not tell them to "compete better". That's my opinion.
EDIT: Not that we actually know what he tells them I guess.
I thought Phaneuf needed to focus more on his game than let the opposition get under his skin. Too often was he jabbing back at Jurco/ Abdelkader, or somebody else.
When we needed somebody to step up their game, he was too distracted to notice.
Also thought Panik was the most perimeter player I've ever seen in an NHL game last night. Just never engaged.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 31m
Great news RY @penguins: Pascal Dupuis is on the ice for #Pens practice.

@Mitch92 Duchene, MacKinnon and O'Rielly are on three really different levels though. That package might get us ROR, definitely not the other two.
(I want Duchene.)
EDIT: And I`m pretty sure they`d be in the market for defensemen along with a goalie. Not sure what a bottom 6er would do for them.

Vancouver (2GP) and NY Islanders (4GP) are the only undefeated teams left.

@Jmessih @DeclanK Refs always hand games to the Bruins come playoff time- they hit and intimidate their way through those games.
There is no team I hate more than Boston.

@mtommy @BPsotka @TheLoovTrain I wouldn't say that he's worthless to me. But, say, Holland and a third makes no sense to them. Really, if they're trying to get rid of a young forward at this point in their as-yet-in-denial-rebuild, then they know something.
6 days, 7 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Leafs Analytics Tools On Display, Lupul hurt
@mtommy @BPsotka @TheLoovTrain Nothing that would make sense to both teams. If they're too willing to trade him, I assume they know more about his head situation than me, and it isn't good.
@mtommy @TheLoovTrain @BPsotka Give us Faulk and I'm happy haha
@mtommy @BPsotka Only two more years though, right? That's not too much risk IMO.
@loomx @mtommy @BPsotka Combination- but mainly this packages is crazy small. Gardiner is the only one with significant value, compared to Staal.
@mtommy @BPsotka I've never been real high on him- I bet I think least of him compared to most posters on this board.
I think he stands with his back too straight and is too easy to tip/push off the puck, and when he is taking an offensive chance just keeps our forwards away.
@mtommy in a heartbeat.
@loomx looked like it distracted him too
@Yaknowwhat I will cheer anybody on when they play the Bruins.

I bet its been mentioned, but from Friedman's 30 in 30:
28. The first of those goals came after Max Pacioretty walked around a flat-footed Dion Phanuef on opening night. A turnover put Phaneuf in a bad spot, but he does not look at all comfortable playing the left side, even though he shoots that way. (He prefers the right.) Toronto is determined to try it, and a couple of coaches said last week you have to commit to it for 40 games to see if it will really work.
1 week ago on Wednesday Mashup: Back to .500
@Yaknowwhat Perhaps he's given a shit situation.
Just because different reasons are used doesn't mean they are illegitimate.
1 week, 1 day ago on GDT: Game 4, Colorado Avalanche at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., TSN4)
@Yaknowwhat You pay him to play only one defensive position at a time. What is the use in him playing both?
And competent/elite are different.
@rentatenttrent @Cameron19 Ignorant comment.
I think he's just messing with the Avs. He does that from time to time using warmups.
@ninepaces @DeclanK @Bring the Cup Home @mikeyboy "Ottawa Senators (1996-present) [(Toronto Maple Leafs)] (during Toronto away games)" Loov it.
@Mitch92 @Cameron19 What did he say?
@Pent_House Is that causing our top line to fare poorly, or is their poor faring making us look more cyclic?
@ninepaces So one fluke turns the other fluke into half of a trend?
@djamon @MaxwellHowe I think its been a group effort, and honestly I think Bozak has been the best of the three. JvR keeps ending up on the wrong side of the puck carrier, missing lots of checks and Phil seems to never have time on the breakout, and when he does make space for himself almost struggles to take advantage.
Of the mistakes I notice, or plays where nothing happens out of something, it is Bozak least of the time.
