@Anthony Petrielli @BPsotka @dlbu dlbu E I want to keep Dion and Phil. But Dion at least hasn't been put in a position to succeed (and increase his value) since arriving.

@Anthony Petrielli @dlbu dlbu E If management doesn't necessarily plan on selling Phil, then they want him probably distracted. Helps the lottery right?
EDIT: They seem to be doing a good job making the team far less than the sum of its parts.
@happy_gilmour @BPsotka @Marleafs Well said.
@bear19 @BPsotka @Marleafs if you're bad at playing sports you're self-centered? I don't get the connection you're trying to make. They seem entirely unconnected.

@Marleafs Many* members of the media think they are local celebrities. Just as many are not, I think.
@Radar O'Rielly @.Kong. @mtommy If he worked out better in the offseason, he wouldn't miss so many games to injury.
@mtommy You're part of the problem.
@TheColborneUltimatum Would rather Polak be moved.

The #leafs acquire Eric Brewer and a fifth-rounder from #NHLDucks for Korbinian Holzer. Trade call pending.
Jonas Siegel @jonasTSN1050 2m
With trade of Holzer, Leafs have moved every expiring contract, save David Booth.

Lindstrom is 31 and an expiring contract. UFA come July 1st.

@Anthony Petrielli This was actual context to Hornby's BS
1 week ago on Leafs trade David Clarkson for Nathan Horton
@Anthony Petrielli https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8xxNLdXfYg
@Alec Brownscombe @Anthony Petrielli Did you guys watch the interview?
Because this is BS by Hornby. Nonis said these facts to make a very different point.
@Bruce Gamble if you watched the interview, Nonis mentioned that DC turned down more money elsewhere as a point that TO meant a lot to him. Not that he regretted missing out on money.
@North Kariya thank you for making my optics lecture 10x more enjoyable.

@vji67 @BPsotka Better to use this strategy to finish below where we should, and get a better draft pick in a good year. Get a good coach and compete quickly.
@BoneChompski @DeclanK @ProfessorRance We're not in that position. A multi-year tank is if your team has no skill up front or in prospects. Ours has lots, and a two-year turnaround isn't out of the question at all if we do this right.
@vji67 Not if you force a defense-only style onto an offensively-leaning team. That's how we're losing now.
@North Kariya @BPsotka @DeclanK Where do he and Marleau fit on the top 10 list?
@North Kariya @BPsotka @DeclanK Then I think we can't give them Dion and Phil. It'd have to be Phil and Boromir or something.
@North Kariya @BPsotka @DeclanK Question: are each meltdowns worth the same? Or the higher the meltdown factor the less worthy the player?
@DeclanK Note how the players we deem too old for our own rebuild are being considered for other teams' rebuilds. #leafsfanlogic
@North Kariya Kostka?
@Nylanderthal @BPsotka @North Kariya @Baddestcat I'd rather make the playoffs and collapse than be on the outside looking in.
But just because there's a collapse doesn't mean the players are broken, or you can't win with them. It can be coaching styles, injuries, puck-luck, etc. In our situation, it was a lot of skilled but ultimately inexperienced players facing a resilient team. We had a coach who isn't made for a long-term gig, and he misused players in subsequent seasons. I don't think we have the players to win, but the players we DO have aren't necessarily a problem. Our team has been less than the sum of its parts the last two seasons, and that's on the coach/gm.
@North Kariya @BPsotka @Baddestcat Every year all players except cup winners are meltdown players basically.
@Baddestcat Pretty sure there were lots of people on the ice when the Bruin's melted games 4-7 to the Flyers. Good thing they traded all of those meltdown players.
@theselfishsloth @zoidbergman I'd like Polak gone now too, I don't think his stock will increase and I don't really like him on the team. Booth could go.
@North Kariya @Nylanderthal And I find it unlikely that each of them make it. That's some successful drafting/ development/ luck.
@phaneufoundlander @BPsotka @Leafs_89 ...
@North Kariya @BPsotka @ProfessorRance @Dan39 @17Forever Maybe I just don't understand how good Perron really is, but I think many forget how strong of a player a healthy Lupul is. We have had him buried behind JvR at ES for no reason I can see.
Maybe I also overvalue Lupul.
@phaneufoundlander @BPsotka @Leafs_89 Fleecing happens once or twice a season, across the entire league. If that's your measure of how good a GM is, you'd only recognize a good one after they'd been around for 10-15 seasons.
@North Kariya @BPsotka @ProfessorRance @Dan39 @17Forever Perron doesn't drive a line like Lupul can though. Perron plays off of Sid (I'm assuming, haven't watched many Pen's games) while Lupul can take over a game on his own.
@North Kariya @BPsotka @ProfessorRance @Dan39 @17Forever His ceiling is when he is healthy.
If both are healthy, I'd rather have Lupul. That's what I mean. Perron will never be the offensive force Lupul has been before/ can be in the future.
@North Kariya @ProfessorRance @Dan39 @17Forever But Lupul's ceiling is higher for sure.
@phaneufoundlander @Leafs_89 Bergevin has been really good at moving ineffective players out, before the rest of the league realizes they aren't effective. Most GMs don't have that ability.
@ProfessorRance @17Forever Lupul > Erat; Maatta < Forsberg
It's unfair because we get more long-term, but that is what makes sense if we're trading away valuable assets. Their chances to win this year need to improve, and our future needs to improve.
@udlbu I don't think the need to change the core necessarily means moving current pieces away. It could just be recognizing that JvR- or others- needs to have less of a role (2nd line).
I'd like to see a number (say 5) of players moved away from their current roles, but I don't see the glaring need to trade pieces right now, when we won't get face value.
@Jon5200 @Xxxxxnew I don't think they would do that trade. At the present, time, they seem more committed to a long term rebuild than we do. The value is in their favour, but it still isn't a smart trade.

@Yaknowwhat despite the fact he hasn't scored, I continue to think he looks really effective on the ice. Made a good move/sidestep before Komorov's shorty, and often does the little things right. Honestly, I don't think he'd look out of place on the 2nd line with Lupul and Naz (although if we're being honest, the first line should be Phil-Bozak-Lupul).
I think if somebody is playing poorly (including but not limited to Clarkson), Booth should be the man moved up in the lineup, except for PP time.

@TheGroobster @BPsotka I'm anti-tank so can't agree with that.
I'd take the cap hit if we bought out Healy.
@Bruffins All of them, if our coach isn't smart enough to play Dion on the right side, and as a two way (not-complete-shutdown) defenseman.
That has the potential to be a league-wide top pairing though IMO *with competent coaching*
