@LyGuy @BPsotka I think that's because he's afraid to get caught (either fully blocked shot or the forward entirely closes the gap and pokes it away). I think he could use his speed to give himself more time, and better positioning.

Offensively, I think I'd like to see Rielly hold onto the puck longer. His speed could get him closer to the net before he shoots/passes the puck.

On the other hand, I'd like to see Gardiner shoot faster. Against most teams, he gets pushed off the puck when trying something like last night's goal and we don't get any chances on it. That said, I liked that he noticed Buffalo was caught watching/ chasing him and not protecting their net front.

@StanSmith Its a very difficult thing to track. Most players don't have the puck for more than a few seconds at a time, and far too rare is uncontested possession.

@Bring the Cup Home @BPsotka @HHT @NinetyThree Depends on who holds the pick. If it is the Avalanche, for example, I could see it moving. The kingly ransom they could charge would be worth more than a superstar centerman.

@Bring the Cup Home @HHT @NinetyThree Many teams have traded top 5 picks. Notably, in the last powerdraft, the #1 was traded to the Penguins who needed a goalie from the Panthers.

@MaxwellHowe @BPsotka I guess it depends on how players mature at that age. Will he be adding leg muscle or upper body weight (an acceleration-/ top speed- hindrance)? Is the strength to his skating in technique already, or is there lots of room to improve yet?

@MaxwellHowe Wow Ovechkin's acceleration is miles ahead of the rest.

@Yaknowwhat @BPsotka @Burtonboy a) We have one of the most successful power plays in the league; an 0-for-16 stint doesn't change that.

b) If we change something, taking a body away from the front of the net is the last thing I would do.

You always need a big body making things tough for the goalie.

MacKinnon was not one of the quickest accelerators (Alexander Ovechkin was first among those tracked, followed by Erik Karlsson, Ryan Kesler and Taylor Hall), but only Carl Hagelin had a faster highest speed, at slightly above 37 kilometres per hour. MacKinnon was tied for second, with Phil Kessel. (You can see some of that information here)"

So compares how a player fares compared to their peers on the same team. Does not account for different roles between players, but does account for (which I incorrectly commented above) different systems, assuming the team corsi numbers include only games in which they played for their team.

Interesting; I see it the same way. Odd that he identifies JT as working harder, and that's almost acceptable (or at least acceptable that he has worked harder up until this point).

As to Carrick, I'd like to leave him on the Marlies until a centerman goes down- because I don't doubt one will. Seeing as RC doesn't reward players as well (IMO) I'd like Carrick to stay down until RC is gone to be honest.

@Savo43 @T K O @BPsotka @Yaknowwhat I know it was just one game, but he was terrible. I've never seen an NHL (or OHL for that matter) player stay on the perimeter more. I don't think he engaged one player with the puck or had it on his stick for more than 2 seconds at any point during the game.

It just frustrates me knowing that while Ashton struggles to put the puck in the net, nobody can fault his compete level. And that is apparently what we lack.

We need 4th liners to be the most energetic.

1 week, 4 days ago on Saturday Mashup: Round Two, Hopefully Better than Round One

@Yaknowwhat then he needs to sit Panik for lack of compete. Show Gardiner when to engage the forward and when to use his superior speed to simply get and skate away with the puck first.

Not tell them to "compete better". That's my opinion.

I thought Phaneuf needed to focus more on his game than let the opposition get under his skin. Too often was he jabbing back at Jurco/ Abdelkader, or somebody else.

When we needed somebody to step up their game, he was too distracted to notice.

Also thought Panik was the most perimeter player I've ever seen in an NHL game last night. Just never engaged.

@Mitch92 Duchene, MacKinnon and O'Rielly are on three really different levels though. That package might get us ROR, definitely not the other two.

(I want Duchene.)

EDIT: And I`m pretty sure they`d be in the market for defensemen along with a goalie. Not sure what a bottom 6er would do for them.
