What if the difference in skill isn't as obvious?

@djamon @Mattmark I don't care how elite a player is. Nobody gels with every player and certainly the definition of an elite player is not the ability to perform with any linemates. it is to perform at a higher level than other players.

It is ridiculous to claim he can thrive with anybody. Even Gretzky couldn't play with everybody.

@Greg Fenton @The_Polish_Cannon We didn't change our systems when needed though. Teams figured out how to beat our PK that was so effective last year, and we adapted horribly (/not at all).

How wrong I was, but it was fun to have such excitement. I'd be that pumped again if we had a new coach.

@Burtonboy @BPsotka @Jmessih @reenergized There seemed to be no rushing the net, from any players at all really under RC/ That was the biggest difference I noticed in Holland's play- I was really impressed during his first few games and then noticed about two weeks later that he didn't use his speed and body to get to the net.

I wonder if our coaches didn't think driving to the net with the puck gave as quality scoring chances? Perhaps they preferred more passes and a clear shot on goal.

Everybody has different numbers, I would say 40% roster decisions; 35% coaching systems; 15% individual effort/ desicion making.

@Dewy Keon Hogturd @BPsotka That's one example; just because a different coach was wrong doesn't mean this one is good. There's more than two ways to coach a team, and I think general consensus is Both RW and RC have made terrible mistakes.

You could even argue RC has been given the players RW should have had, and vice versa.

2 months, 1 week ago on Steve Spott, Peter Horachek named Maple Leafs’ Assistant coaches

Reply

@dlb Mad @BPsotka They were asked to play the systems. You don't say to a player "go win the game". That's nuts. You tell them where to be, and the coaches told them to be swarming the D-zone, leaving the points free, and waiting at the blueline during a breakout.

That's on the coach.

2 months, 1 week ago on Steve Spott, Peter Horachek named Maple Leafs’ Assistant coaches

Reply

@Dewy Keon Hogturd Honestly, I disagree. I think the players did what was asked while playing terrible systems with poorly divided ice time (/starts) and with questionable linemates. Raymond and Clarkson on the same line? One rushes and the other grinds and cycles. McClement on the ice while trailing in the third period? That's killing time for the opposition.

I understand making the players take responsibility, but I think we could have been successful under different coaches/ GM decisions; I think we would have had the same result under a different roster and the same coach/ GM decisions.

@Tim Horton @BPsotka @BrandonCheema I've done much research on them, having been through a 5-month recovery of one a few years ago. I'd most definitely recommend a mouthguard.

Not scientifically proven is vastly different than scientifically unproven.

Research on concussions is very new and they still aren't great at identifying/ treating them. That is why they take so many precautions in hockey now - because we understand how little we know. If you hit your head on the ice and your jaws close, much of the energy is absorbed down the jaw bone and into the back of your head, where your brain is stored. Essentially the force it takes to stop your head from moving down is subjected, through vibration, into your brain.

I maintain absolute support of mouthguards.
