I wonder if there were any teams this year saving their pennies for a Kershaw 2014 sweepstakes

Does this contract mean Dodgers had more leverage than we thought?  (I really thought it would be more)  But HAPPY no matter what

Appreciate the comments... I know I'm stirring the pot with this Kershaw nonsense but as a fan I would always hope my team is thinking of every possible way to make the team better even if it might make us upset to lose some good people and players

@Weston Taylor @PuigMode sinceJune3 giving him more years is the same as not paying him enough....Not sure Kasten likes long term contracts to pitchers

@Weston Taylor @PuigMode sinceJune3 I would not really WANT to trade him. He's my favorite player on this team. But, if you will have to outbid the world to pay him and not have the financial flexibility to keep having a good team, then I would consider it

@Lobo @PuigMode sinceJune3 The question is....Does it drastically hurt their chances of winning a World Series? and would it improve their chances of winning later on?

@Kewldood69 He and his agent might be waiting to see what they get for Tanaka before they negotiate their deal

@BIah @PuigMode sinceJune3 It just seems that even though money should not be a problem to Dodgers, the smart move financially would be to trade Kemp or Kershaw for REALLY good prospects that would be mainstays in near future and allow them to compete today too

Question for you guys...BTW Merry Christmas!

If the Dodgers were to win the Tanaka sweepstakes and seeing as they will be stacked Starting Pitching by spring training...Would EVERYONE here be opposed to Dodgers continuing their "Phase II" and dealing Kershaw or an Kemp/Ethier for Prospects...

Thus having a good team plus being able to plan for the future

Many things to say about today's reported signings...

First: Dodgers in 2013 won 92 games because of talent amassed by Colleti and Dodgers and outside of about 2 games pitching wasn't the problem in 2013 playoffs (this being a team with many innings given to likes of Schu, Punto, League, Ethier, Ellises)

Second: Signing Perez & Wright for one year deals to allow for better development of minor leaguers and signing them to dumpable deals gives deals low risk...

Third: Dodgers can now use depth in pitching to maybe trade for a better bench player than what there is in free agency

Finally: wright+league+Perez in back of bullpen > league+Dominguez+rosin

Removing top 5 of Jansen, Withrow, Wilson, Howell, Paco

Heard this mentioned on Twitter but it's Funny how people bring up how the Cardinal way is to bring up these cost controlled relief pitchers...and say why can't every team do this?

Thing is not many teams have the likes of Martinez, Rosenthal, Lynn, Kelly..which can all be either top 50 prospects or decent #3s at this point...

I don't think we can say that about any young cost controlled pitcher on Dodgers today

Not sure what all the fuss is about Dodgers signing Perez and Wright...rather have them than depend on the likes of Paco, Withrow and Dominguez if needed for a full season

When you compare it to league deal it makes sense

I like what Dodgers are doing...if MLB is trying to keep teams from using $$ to dominate scouting and development, why not hire the best scouting dept money can buy and be better than everyone else?
