I'd like to see the route efficiency for Yasiel Puig. "Looking at the figures alone would lead you to believe he's playing two positions at once . . ."

Since you're apt to run into racial discrimination in any field of endeavor, why would you think you would escape it by leaving mainstream journalism?
I started doing office work 25 years ago, as a temp working in a number of different offices. One thing that struck me immediately is that at a certain level of the hierarchy you just stopped seeing black faces -- it was always a case of one or two, maybe, and maybe not. This was in marked contrast to the clerical level, where I work, and also in marked contrast to white women, who if not equally represented had risen a fair piece from a state of discrimination. Twenty five years later it hasn't changed in the least degree. One conclusion you could draw from this is that the strategies adopted from the dawn of the civil rights era simply are not working, and doubling down on them isn't likely to work that much better. It may be time to think about new strategies. I don't know what they might be any more than you do.

You wouldn't want to hire Maddon as GM because you'd create the impression that he was just lying in wait to replace Mattingly.
The reason you'd be loath to let Mattingly go is that his ability to manage a contentious clubhouse might not be easy to replace.

The difference between Colletti and Friedman is that if Friedman was going to trade Puig or Kemp I would trust him to get good value.

This is like when you get a new car. You find yourself wandering over to the garage just look at it.

Seems more likely that this is a long term target. They turned themselves into an instant contender by gobbling up bad contracts, but once those are out of the system and they're producing young talent regularly the target is to be beneath 190.

I believe the TV show recap was one of the first characteristic forms of Internet content. I don't recall the fellow's name, but the program (bitchily) recapped was Beverly Hills 90210.

Well, the author instantly identifies himself as a philistine boob by opening with Vile Bodies, which is a great comic novel. Can't imagine why he'd expect to be taken seriously after that.

All I can think of is that Ellis asked them not to pick up the option if they didn't intend to start him. Either that or they're blithering idiots.
