If Arizona is selling, I'd rather make a run at Martin Havlat. Big Kid (6'6), 2 more years at a 3.1 AAV on his deal and hes a beast in the FO circle. Gonna have to give to get though...(JT Miller, Halverson and a 3rd rounder ?????? )
I still Like Eric Gryba D OTT and Zack Smith C/W OTT (No idea what kind of package to offer but Ottawa should be selling)

@GiveGartneraCup @Scott from SEC 224 @GregQuinn As long as the Rangers make a QO, they can't lose him for nothing. he can pick arbitration for 1 or 2 years and historically, they favor the club.
If Step selects arbitration, the rangers pick the term. If the Rangers elect arbitration, the Rangers pick the term (1-2 years).
If Step picks arbitration OR the Rangers elect arbitration, Step can NOT sign an offer sheet with another team.
Teams can only take 2 players to arbitration per off season.

@Gianni74 Hindsight is 20/20. They drafted Saguenetti over Giroux in 06 and then there was that 2003 draft...ugh. And then MDZ a few years later as Saguenttei didn't pan out, which is why they passed on Fowler (he dis havea bit of a scandal surrounding him as well ... The whole character issue coming into play...(right or wrong) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/492658-anaheim-ducks-prospect-cam-fowler-how-good-is-cam-fowler
Windosr was fined 400K and had to forfiet 6 OHL picks, although it was not confirmed it was related to Fowler. Same issue with 2010 pick Jack Campbell .
@GregQuinn Step is a RFA so the Rangers have a little bit of leverage. I see him getting the same deal or very similar deal to what Brassard got. Maybe 6 years with a 5 AAV, since hes a bit younger. Bottom line if Steps get an offer like 6 @ 6-6.5 and The Rangers did not match, they would get that teams 2016 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks. I just don't see him being valued that high by anyone.
@J_CKfor30 O' Relily got that 2 year 12 Mil deal, coming off a 28G - 36A - 64 P season. - 22 PP points, 19:49 ATOI and had 2 PIMs the entire season. They also knew they were losing Stastny and needed to keep a pivot to play behind Duchene., who got 5 years at 6 Million and outproduces Stepan as well.
And so far this year, not looking like so great a deal for COl.
@J_CKfor30 He's a RFA, I don't think anyone is willing to give up a 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks in the 2016 draft to pay Stepan 6.5 for 6 years.. He may get more years than Brassard (6) based on his age but the Rangers are going to keep that AAV between 5-5.5.
Look at when pivots are getting this year...
@KevinMccarthy @Scott from SEC 224 @J_CKfor30 Im not ready to pull the plug on MclRath but i'm not sure he to projects to an everyday 3rd pair player. (at least not yet) I did see his numbers improving but, i don't get to see Wolfpack games. I see some moves before the deadline.
@J_CKfor30 Stepan is going to get offered the same deal as Brassard. 5 years 25 million (ish). I think Hagelin gets moved at the deadline, for what... I'm not sure yet. Need a more rugged D man to play on the 3rd pair- Gryba? (move Moore) and a bottom 6 forward with some grit that can win a face off... (Zak Smith?)
@Barry Beck @Derek Stepan Stall is going to get (at the very least) the same type of deal as Giradri, (6 years 33 Mil) whether it's from the Rangers or someone else in UFA.

Let the kid play. Its a great tournament and a great opportunity for him to play big minutes against the best of the best in his age group.

@Billfrom Brookhaven @scrangersfan @Scott from SEC 224 @jslnyr1102 Carkner is a good comparison. He was also a 1st rounder (14th Overall -1984) and a few years later Ranger fans were lamenting that we picked him over Kevin Hatcher ( 17th pick). Carkner had a pretty good career, (not stellar) but he did what he did as a 3rd pair, tough, D Man for 14 Pro seasons. Still don't think it's time to pull the plug on DM at this stage.

@EugenePlaksienko @Scott from SEC 224 @jslnyr1102 Since he's only 22, having him work on his skating & positioning (with Beukeboom, also not a fleet footed skater) is the proper course. re-evalute after 50 games in the AHL. Nothing to really lose and the upside ,even as a 3rd pair D-Man could be well worth the wait.
@jslnyr1102 He needs more work. Especially in the system that AV has in place.
@J_CKfor30 Barring some 19 year old phenom scoring run, i think Duclair goes back to JRS by game 39. It will keep him another year away from UFA and he's already burned this year on his ELC. It's just business. Like keeping MLBers in AAA until they pass the Super 2 statute for Arbitration. No point in sending him down prior to that. The 9 game rule does not apply to him, that first year won't slide again
Kid looks pretty good too..
@leftwingbarbara Hayes can't win draws... He did play the wing the last 2 years in College, not that surprised. I think he shows some promise in playing the position well, just not in between the dots. Bring in Joel Otto to give him some lessons.
I'd like to end the St Louis Center experiment. I get it , thin down the middle, but he needs to find his game on the wing. He's being a team guy and i respect that immensely but, he's a winger.
Hopefully Stepan is back after game 11.
MclRaths numbers look quite unremarkable 7 GP: NO points - 2 and 21 PIMS.
How has he looked ? How much ice Time is he logging?

@KSRAGER44 The Pack Play 6 games over the next 9 days. Get the boys some ice & perspective.
3 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
I think Duclair is headed back to Juniors after 9 games. AV doesn't have any confidence in him (yet) in tight games.
Also, The Pack play 6 games over the next 10 days, send JT.Miller & Fast down to get some perspective and minutes.
Call up Chris Mueller if they need a body on the roster or in an emergency.
I still think Staal signs for 6 Years , 33 Million at some point before the deadline. front loaded like Girardi's.
The Pack play 6 games over the next 10 days, send JT.Miller & Fast down to get some perspective and minutes.
No need to panic just yet.
@GetTheKingACup @Scott from SEC 224 Yeah, he wanted to go to EDM. He's a RFA next year and does not have a NMC, but he would be costly.
@GetTheKingACup Ferrence is 35 with 2 more years left on his deal. Not quick enough for AV's system.
Schultz on the other Hand.... would be a great addition, short & long term but, it'll cost ya. Probably JT.Miller, C.Allen or B. Skej & a 2nd rounder.
@TruBluEsp @scrangersfan @Scott from SEC 224 I think Duclair ends up back in Juniors after 9 games. Lindberg is a curious case, he can play on the defensive side of the puck and has been excellent wining draws on every level.
Not sure that constitutes a call up but, teams have signed guys to just win draws, in the past. I kinda like the idea of the Swede line.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Lombardi walking away from 800 K guaranteed each of the next 2 years, on a team not so deep at center & is a Cup contender is a bit baffling to me.
Is Lindberg going to get a look soon if the face off woes continue past the next few (5-10) games?
@Purinton McLrath needs another 50 AHL games playing top 4 minutes in all situations, and show he's improved not only from last year but from camp this year, before he's going to get a full time promotion.
He needs the work & Beuekeboom is the right guy to shape this kids game.
@JMK8363 @Scott from SEC 224 @EugenePlaksienko You just can't unknow Meat Candy! I love the Color commentator!

@EugenePlaksienko Meat Candy!
If Hayes is on the IR, is there restriction as to when he can be added to the lineup? It is not similar to LTIR in that regard?
Did Mueller clear waivers?
@brian2686 Malone would need to clear waivers. Could be claimed.
Haggerty needs some time in the AHL.
I think Hayes makes the club due to versatility, and his size.
Mcllrath needs some more minutes in the AHL too. get him top pair minutes with Connor Allen.
Duclair being on the roster means the rangers need to move a contract. Could be a tough decision. I think he needs more time in Junior.
3 months, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/projecting-the-rangers-opening-night-roster-attempt-two.html
Off topic but wow...
4 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@DP_Snotty He's missed 1 game in his career? And came back after it & played with a broken jaw. He may not be #1 center but he does play everyday.
I've hit it on the head with what Staal would be asking for( 6- 6.5 Mil @ 7 Years) and what the Rangers should offer ( 5.5 @ 6 years - same #5 Girardi)
If we had to move him... I'd love to see the Rangers deal him to Vancouver for Kevin Bieska (2 years 4.6 Mil AAV left on current deal) & one of their D prospects , Ben Hutton or Evan Mceneny.
That helps them in the short and long term. May have to add a conditional pick, depending on if they can sign Staal to an extension. (a 2nd if they can't & a 4th if they can)
4 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Looks like he would require waivers to be recalled.
I would rather have taken a Run at Dustin Penner for 700 -850 K. This is a low risk move & the 2 Way Deal will allow the Ranger to send him to and from the AHL without clearing waivers if need be, ,,,,,, (i think?)
Offer Staal the same deal as Girardi. 6 Years with an AAV of 5.5 If he's looking for a max year deal (8) at 6 -6.5., i think you just have to move him.
@GiveGartneraCup He remains a RFA next year, unsure about his Arbitration rights, as of yet.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/2014-articles/rangers-re-sign-john-moore.html
@IhaveawaiteratMSG @rangersfan @scrangersfan I think the Rangers Brass really value Girardi ,on the ice, off the ice and especially since McDonagh has been developing into one of the better D-Men in the league while paired with #5.I'd be surprised if Girardi was moved before year 5 of his deal. (and that would mean the Rangers were sellers -aka non contenders. His deal is front loaded as far as salary goes. So that AAV of 5.5 may be something a team would consider, even if he was in decline, if it meant only 4 Million is actual dollars. Cap depending. Slats isn't sending #5 to the Bruins before the extension he just handed out even starts.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
Id' much rather see them take a shot at Dustin Penner, (Seguthci is off the board) - 750 K for 1 year - Calgary
650 -800 K????
5 months ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@GregB1919 @Scott from SEC 224 I said offer thesame Giradri deal and that I didn't think a 7-8 year deal would be prudent but, in the NHL now, if teams can keep the AAV down, they'll add years. The Rangers are the only team that can offer8. What's i'm saying is, they could use that caveat to keep the AAV down and lock him up forever and worry about the potential injury issues down the line. (see Marc Savard & Chris Pronger)
Didn't say I agreed with that logic but i would not be surprised if they offered a 27 year old former first rounder, their own, a max term deal.
Offer him the same deal as Girardi 6 years with an AAV of 5.5 Million. The Rangers could add years, 7 or the max of 8 and maybe go up to 6 -6.5 but i don't think his worth is at a 7-8 year deal at 6 -6.5. Not with the Rangers lack of cap space and uncertainty on how much the cap will rise over the next few years.

Unconfirmed report we landed Hayes. Anyone? Buellor?
BONUS AAV CAP HIT
2014-15 $70,000 $925,000 $850,000 $92,500 $1,775,000 $925,000
2015-16 $70,000 $925,000 $850,000 $92,500 $1,775,000 $925,000
2016-17 $70,000 $925,000 $850,000 $92,500 $1,775,000 $925,000
It's gonna take something like this to land Hayes... Maybe he goes 2 years looking for Arbitration early..
@gravey94 He wasn't even offered a deal by the Rangers.
5 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@grosselk Glass = $ 1.45 MIL.
I don't think Columbus will part with Johansen and bringing back MDZ is not an option. he needs to find his game, somewhere else.
5 months, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://nyrangersblog.com/
@KarenMaz its a compensatory pick so the team signing him wouldn't lose a pick, it's just awarded (anywhere from 48 to 54th pick in round 2) kind of like the "sandwich" pick for the MLB draft.
