@Anthony Petrielli @Greg Fenton @loomx Anthony, do you have any info  and knowledge about the scouting staff of other organization ? I don't think our scouting or drafting has been above average. Nonis, who presumably lets approves the body of work of these scouts has been here since 2008 and there is nothing much to show for it. Don't you think our scouting team needs to be changed ?

This is not the time for dissection. This is the time for celebration. Great game and even greater result for Canada. Let win the Gold medal game and then revert to our default Go Leafs Go. By the way as good family members, we will not ask any questions from James or Phil as to why they did not produce against Canada. We will tell them they played great and should continue to play great for us.

I am so glade Kessel and JVR have played so well against  other teams. However, I hope that they both fail against us. For team Canada to win against the US, one of our players has to be tasked to physically eliminate Kessel. Kane, can be neutralized by a fast defensive player. JVR, however, is a more daunting proposition.  I am cautiously optimistic that we will win against the US.

I am not impressed with Poulin. In fact, I think he is quite useless. I have never heard anything original from him and that is why  I don't pay much attention to whatever he says.  The only thing that I do remember is that he talked Lebda up when we signed that good for nothing player. I suspect his signing was at the behest of Poulin.

This was the trade that sent  Byfuglien to Atlanta. TSN"  in Byfuglien, one of the breakout players for the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks this spring, has been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers as part of a nine-player deal.

Byfuglien, along with D Brent Sopel, F Ben Eager and F Akim Aliu, are heading to Atlanta in exchange for the Thrashers' first round pick (24th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the 54th pick, and forwards Marty Reasoner, Jeremy Morin, and Joey Crabb."

If Nonis can pull something out of his hat and land Byfuglien now when he is availble,it will make the Leafs very hard to play against. He can handle Lucic and I would say even Chara. If we can match up against Bruins, the other teams would not be much of a headache. I sincerely hope some how Nonis pulls this off knowing our cap situation, . Big Buff will add the intangible that we have been talking about for a long time without having it.

@Yaknowwhat I am not sure TO has the stomach for that medicine. If you recall after reaching TO Burke signed a goalie because in his opinion those who matter in Toronto did not want to endure losing games in Toronto. We could have got the first overall that year. Clearly, winning long term was less important than winning short term or we don't know what pressure he faced than.

I have always maintained that the  management is responsible for the success of lack thereof of a team. It is the manger who assembles the team ( knowing that every Manager inherits a roaster) and the coach. A manager has the power to make trades and the power to fire and hire coaches.

Pat Quin made horrible trades, JFJ although a good scout was a brutal trader. Keith Fletcher had passed his expiry date. The impatience of Buke and his commitment to Wilson came at high cost to us.

The onus is clearly now on NONO. He has the power to do things and he should be the one doing it.  If doesn't do anything it is on him.

The Gleason trade seems very good for us.  If he plays half decent, he will put a lot of pressure on our D men not named Dion and that will be a good thing as competition to earn ice time generally brings out better play. If he does work out, we will have a D that will become more difficult to push of the puck.

@Pent_HouseNonis will be well advised to keep these contract lengths under control.

Unless we let Kessell have an extended run with a legitimate first line center or Kadri ( at present) and determine whether or not he is the one we hope to win a cup with, the offensive balance and stability cannot be determined. Settled teams have offensive leaders who bring it on when the going gets tough.

Similarly, unless our GM makes up his mind whther or not Dion in the top dog on Defence worthy of a cup run, our defence will not be settled. Nonis did make polite noises before the draft about trading Dion. Dion's contract,  its terms and length will show clearly as to what Nonis thinks of Dion. I hope Nonis insists on having the ability to trade any player including Dion and Kessell.

I will only suggest that Coaches should use mostly if not always there should be one standard for all defencemen and all forwards. Soft or bone headed plays regard less who the player is should irk the coach. If the coach becomes arbitrary and selective instead of having a uniform standard for all players, he is likely to lose respect of the team.
