@JoeMaddonSuperstar I prefer a Dodgers win to a Giants loss, myself.

@DBrim That's a cute cat. :)
"Hey, who knows, maybe the owner was referring to pitcher wins, because Maeda was merely 11-8."
I assume you have a reason for assuming the owner was being derogatory, but is it possible he was saying basically he's so GOOD that it would be hard for the team to let him go because they'd miss his production?

@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar We need players to play all year though, not half a year.
4 days, 14 hours ago on Can The Dodgers Even Sell Low On Andre Ethier?
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar Because he was signed for his bat, and if defense was the issue in CF then we could have gone a whole lot of cheaper ways than Ethier. We needed his bat, and it went AWOL. If he was so valuable in 2013 as a CF, my guess is he wouldn't be impossible to trade even after 2014 since 2014 was a disruptive season for him, he was in and out of the lineup regularly. But teams see not much value left in him.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar Well you're valuing defense more than I am, so I'm not really speaking to that at all... I'm not saying you're wrong there, I just don't care as much about his defensive stats in CF in 2013.
4 days, 15 hours ago on Can The Dodgers Even Sell Low On Andre Ethier?
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar You mentioned Jeter, so I looked him up just as a random thing. He didn't start to decline until after his age 35 season, he had an .871 OPS that year. I know, just one example, he's special, all that, but there's a reason why Kasten and crew mentioned not wanting to sign players to big contracts after age 36, and not age 29.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar Nobody said star = actually good, everyone has their own thoughts on that too. The word "star" came into the equation because I said star players don't typically see massive declines start at like 29 years old unless injury is a factor. But replace "star" with "average" if you want, it doesn't really matter.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar I don't, but I bet a lot of people do, yeah. He is very popular. "Star" to me indicates popularity.
@Lobo @BlueMarvin @Literally PFP @JoeMaddonSuperstar What's not how this works? Star is a subjective term. I don't think there's any specfic way how that works. I'd bet you in 2011 that Ethier was one of the top 5 marketed players on the Dodgers, and one of the top 5 fan favorites. Does that matter?
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar 2011 wasn't fantastic, but he got onto the AS team... so the point is, he was considered a "star player" by many people at that time. Everyone has their own definition of "star" though of course.
@Lobo @JoeMaddonSuperstar 2008: .305
@Lobo @BlueMarvin @JoeMaddonSuperstar 2009: .272
/ .508 and 6th in MVP voting. 2010, 2011 ... All Star.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @DBrim OK then we're just in two different places in terms of how we value players, so we'll never see eye to eye on that.
@Lobo @BlueMarvin @JoeMaddonSuperstar It's possible. I just think it's unlikely, because few star players start their big decline so young.... unless they get hurt.
@Lobo @BlueMarvin @JoeMaddonSuperstar Which is why nobody can say for sure that Ethier's decline is age-related.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @DBrim Do you REALLY think he was at his second best in 2013? Do you think that was his second-best season ever?
@JoeMaddonSuperstar Right, as he got older. Imagine.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @DBrim Except he didn't start declining at 32. It was earlier. he simply CONTINUED declining. And 32 is not a typical plunge age anyway.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @DBrim He was a little better in 2013 than 2014, but hardly a valuable player, and definitely not as good as he was before the extension. I don't get the idea of blaming his age, as good players don't typically have massive offensive declines from age 29-32.
@Literally PFP @BlueMarvin @DBrim So you think Ethier was really valuable last season? I think that's a bit at odds with what Mike just wrote.
@DBrim Ethier is what, 31? And he started his massive dive at what, 29?
@HunterStricklandsOedipalComplex @Disgruntled Goat @BlueMarvin I don't know either, how could I know what's in the guy's heart? It's just a suspicion that may be 100% wrong. But, I think there's enough evidence to at least consider that the case just might be he doesn't care anymore because his primary motivator is gone.

@PF Flyers (Royale With Cheese) @BlueMarvin @juanhenry He had a LOT of walk-offs that year, he was an exciting player then, very clutch.
@Disgruntled Goat @HunterStricklandsOedipalComplex @BlueMarvin Who knows man, it may be something else, but I don't know how you can completely discount the possibility that Ether is just a douche who got his money then stopped caring after. There was a BIG difference in performance before and after, and he had quite a few comments before being paid that made me feel like he was extremely concerned about salary, more so than the average player.
@HunterStricklandsOedipalComplex @BlueMarvin Thanks for looking this up.
@juanhenry I used to like him a lot, back when we first traded for him. Got rid of head case Bradley, brought in productive young power bat, what wasn't to like? It was slowly over the years that I started to lose respect for him, and it was 100% because of his own comments and behavior.
@Disgruntled Goat @BlueMarvin Funny.
This is just some BS theory that I have that I can't back up at all with facts because of the nature of the theory, but one of the reasons I've been so anti-Ethier that last couple of years is I get the feeling the guy's pure mercenary, that he could care less about anything beyond getting paid. He got paid, finally, after years of crying like a little baby about salary, then INSTANTLY made massive declines in usefulness. Coincidence? Maybe, but man, it sure makes him look bad.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello if "former" GMs are included, we have like 4 of them already I think. ;)
6 days, 20 hours ago on Look At All These Mediocre Players Making What Andrew Friedman Is
"but it also comes back to what I’ve always said about the public’s perception of player salaries: Who cares?"
Well said. I've never understood why so many fans get pissed off when a guy gets paid. I guess it's jealously, I don't know what else it can be, or the big salary reminds the fans how little THEY are getting paid in comparison and they take their anger about that out on the players instead of on their employers.
@TellMyWifeISaidHello @BlueMarvin @Dustin Nosler I agree with this, I also think it won't be drastic. But to reduce payroll even gradually, I don't see how that works with also making big signings unless someone expensive drops off (enough of them to counter regular salary increases) or we trade expensive pieces. So because of this, I'm not expecting anything drastic this offseason.
6 days, 20 hours ago on Alex Guerrero Can Be A Free Agent If Traded, Unless He Can’t
@Dustin Nosler You guys always say that but, the ad system is not THAT clever in all cases. For example, I don't accept cookies from third party sites, only sites I've visited directly. So those common ad trackers don't work. I wipe my cache and history every time my browser closes, and I use private browsing. As a result, I regularly get weird ads. Which is how I prefer it. :)
@TellMyWifeISaidHello @Dustin Nosler You say that but.... they've been pretty straight with fans about their plans in this regard, when it comes to player payroll. They've done pretty much everything they've said they'd do, and they're saying now they're going tor educe payroll. Why would we not believe them?
One thing I just haven't been able to get a feel for with Guerrero is exactly WHY he's so bad defensively. Is it an issue or range? Weak arm? Inaccurate arm? Butterfingers? Poor instincts? Several of these things? And do we really haev a large enough sample size, given his ear-ly injury troubles, to write him off at 2B for sure?
@Batted Bob @BlueMarvin This is probably true. Sigh.
1 week ago on What If The Dodgers Sold High On Dee Gordon?
@moneynow27 @BlueMarvin So thanks! :)
@moneynow27 @BlueMarvin Bought NLNK at like $27, I think. $39 now. :)
@moneynow27 Hey it's you! Your stock advice has made me good money so far.
@Batted Bob @BlueMarvin Dee's problem wasn't his arm at SS either, was it? I just remember him being generally not good.
Also, random idea that almost certainly has no merit but... any chance Hanley could play 2B better than he played SS?
@foldamort @BlueMarvin Well I thought about that. According to Stan, the Dodgers before Friedman were middle of the pack on advanced stats. Let's assume that's true. That means there are 1/2 the teams out there worse than we've been the last few years, so, let's start with those teams. ;)
This post had to happen, thanks for tackling it Mike. IF we can get something valuable for Gordon then I absolutely believe we have to move him before he gets exposed... again. If we can't get anything of value for him, then fine, we might as well keep him. To me, it's preferable to move Gordon if the market is there... I just don't have any clue what would be realistic to expect back for him.
@Mike Petriello @BlueMarvin Well, I guess what I'm asking is, if I know of writing jobs that don't involve sports, are you interested?

@Anime Ethier @LA_Woman @BlueMarvin Right, there is no one word for just the foot. :) Was a trick question.

@Anime Ethier Quick, what's the Japanese word for "foot," you never said before when I asked!
@Purple Drank @Disgruntled Goat @BlueMarvin You know you'd love it if it happened, don't lie. But after the bad news avalanche that was the NLDS, I understand if you're afraid to ever love again.
