@Loving my multimeterI will assume that someone with a multimeter knows that diodes only pass current in one direction, but the average reader may not know that.  So, before any DIYers out there take it upon themselves to replace diodes, make sure you have tested the diode continuity in BOTH directions.  (put red test lead on one side, black test lead on the other side and test, then reverse positions of the red and black test leads and test again)  If a diode is good, it will pass current in only one direction.  If a diode is bad, it will not pass the current in either direction.
