Clarkson's "Turning over a new Leaf" doesn't appear to be working just yet...How about dumping that stupid reverse Clark number 71? Mike Foligno didn't fair so well with it playing only 33, and 55 games in his only two full seasons with the Leafs.

I love the Robidas signing, he's an excellent mentor and the risk of him getting hurt isn't a concern of mine. By signing a quality proven D-man who is likely to miss some games, you are ensuring rookies get an opportunity to impress. If Robidas only plays 60 games then Granberg/ Holzer/ etc get a combined 40 games to show us what they got!
On that point, I hope Robidas is paired with Phanuef on his natural left side. That way a rookie won't be paired up with Gardiner or Rielly. I predict Phanuef/ Robidas Gardiner/ Polak Reilly/ Franson.

Are we missing the obvious? The Finnish shut down line, that would be feared in the league... Hartikainen, Kontiola, Komarov....Not to mention they all put up 30+ pts in under 50 KHL games last year.

Wow the Canadiens must hate Gorges...now traded to Sabres for a 2nd pick.
Great pick leafs!....Before last season he was talked about going as high as 3rd. I trust our Swedish scouting with all the late round steals, Nylander may just be a steal as well at 8th.

@Mind Bomb @Claymish Surprisingly though Franson at 2 mil was in contention. If you take the average for the D-men it was $3.46 mil, 7 goals, 36 points, 164 hits, and 142 blocked shots. Franson is $2 mil, 5 goals, 33 points, 282 hits, 111 blocked shots, he deserves more respect than we give him.

Challenge...Most Dominate $71 million Team (all under contract)
Benn Backes Kunitz
Landeskog Hanzal Simmonds
Palat Dubinsky Brouwer
N.Foligno Shaw Jenner
327 Goals scored (3.98 per game) 3219 Hits (39 per game) 1352 Blocked Shots (16 per game)
@FrycersGhost @Claymish Umm, two players not yet in their prime, one being a goalie who can be a starter, the other being a right handed 30pt D-man, plus a shot at a very good player with the 8th pick. Bennett, and Draisaitl are only a slight less risk than most of the players who will be there at 8th.
I so do not want to pick at 8th....look at those players, we have only a 10% chance of getting the one that turns into the best of the group. I can't see why the Oilers or Flames wouldn't take our 8th + Reimer + Franson for their 3rd or 4th pick.
@leafersutherland Komarov is a player who always finnished his checks which made Kadri more engaged physically thus played much better. That line will either score or draw a penalty every few shifts.
4 months, 2 weeks ago on (Thursday Mashup) Too Much Cash for Komarov? Mutual interest with Dan Boyle?
@phaneufoundlander I second that...haha
@DCDC @JMAC17 @TheCanucksnaphook @Claymish Compare it to other other veteran stars....Briere 4 mil, Lecavalier 4.5 mil, Jagr 3.5 mil...granted the first two were still making buyout money.
@JMAC17 @TheCanucksnaphook @Claymish If it is true that he wants to come to the Leafs then he knows what our payroll is like and will sign for $7 million over 2 years.
@DWCMLHS @Pent_House @Claymish Didn't say he did, i said when he was on his wing. I would love for someone to look into the stats on when those two played together...it might be interesting.
Yes sign Boyle for 2 years, it gives us more time to develop Granberg, Percy, etc. Should he get injuries....well these Marlies can get some time with the big club while developing. Also sign Komarov for $2 million, Kadri had almost a point a game when Komarov was on his wing. He put up solid numbers in the KHL so let him and Clarkson compete for that spot.
If Sam Bennett has truly dropped to 4th then we need to do everything in our power to get the Oilers 3rd pick for our 8th pick.

I would love if Reimer could swallow his pride and just be happy in his situation. However even if he could, I can't see it working out well....it's like dating in the work place. When you break up with one and start dating another you work with everyone feels that tension.
5 months ago on Trading James Reimer: Not So Fast
@daniel marois @Yan28 then we might get one of Reinhart or Bennett....i could live with being the GM who didn't have to choose.
5 months, 1 week ago on Former Asst’ Coach, Scott Gordon on TSN
@Yan28 Dal Colle is the best pick....I'd hate to have to choose between Reinhart and Bennett then be the GM who picked the wrong one. Also with our 8th pick I would hate to take Ritchie over more skill like Nylander then regret it down the road.
I would like to see the Leafs trade their 8th pick + Franson and/or a prospect to Calgary for their 4th pick. Then the Flames can draft Ritchie who can play this year with Monahan....and we get DAL COLLE....win win for both teams.
Add a veteran goalie at the trade deadline, and I think that team isn't just a playoff team, it would be a cup contender.
5 months, 1 week ago on Toronto Marlies sweep away Chicago Wolves, advance to Western Conference Final
@4evrblue @DJGLENN22 @Claymish For sure, but Thornton wouldn't cost as much as Pavelski.
@Zep2 They need someone to replace Boyle's minutes on defence, they don't need centers.
@Rhaegar_ @4evrblue @Claymish Last 3 years of his contract playing out for the Leafs, I wouldn't write that possibility off.
@dlb yeh @Claymish He's signed, I'm talking about a trade involving Reimer and Franson going the other way.
Just throwing it out there...Don't be surprised if there is a trade this summer involving Phaneuf and Thornton as the main pieces. The Sharks have a lot of offense up front in the center position and they need to replace Boyle. Imagine best line in the league JVR/ Thornton/ Kessel...and Bozak becomes our defensive 3rd line center with offence. Then we trade Reimer and Franson for a shut down right handed D-man....Hamonic???
JVR Thornton Kessel
Lupul Kadri Clarkson
Holland Bozak Komarov *sign him and let him battle with Clarkson for the 2nd line RW spot
(cheap defensive UFA center) Ashton/ Damigo/ Bodie/ Carrick wingers
*Orpik Rielly *Orpik is the guy we need on defence.
(Gleason/ Gunnarson/ Ranger/ + Marlie hopefuls)
I feel that is 3 solid offensive lines, even the 4th can chip in. The defence would be killer!!!
How about plucking RFA Adam Larsson from the Devils? Solid, young righty....What would it take RFA Franson, +, +?
5 months, 1 week ago on Reforming Randy Carlyle
@Cameron19 @Claymish Ott for our 4th line
Instead of signing Bolland...what would it take to get RFA Sutter from the Penquins? Also, we could sign Winnik, and Ott for what Bolland wants.
Phaneuf is like a FUBAR (look it up), can do a lot of things, but nothing as well as using the real actual tools. We need a couple of HAMMERS instead. "Dion Fubar"
5 months, 2 weeks ago on Carlyle Returns
@ProfessorRance @Claymish A construction company doesn't fire their skilled trades men and hire school kids in the summer. They work them together to develop, look at the mix of veterans and youth on Boston, Chicago, Anaheim and LA.
As stated before..trade Phaneuf for Yakupov (at the deadline we would have just got a late 2nd rounder, why not take a chance with 1st overall Yak) Then take Phaneuf's money and throw it at Mitchell and Greene...Imagine Gardiner/Greene, Mitchell/Rielly. Gunnarson/(options). Yakupov could be deadly with Kadri, hopefully they could score as much as they give up,lol. Either way there are a lot of other quality D available--- Orpik, Nikitin, Quincey, Robidas, Tallinder, Morris etc etc. We have depth on defense in the system to bring up for injuries, which not add grizzly veterans for up to 3 years.
It's hard to say what value we can get for Phaneuf, I'm sure Edmonton is very interested. Can we get Yakupov, save a boat load of cash to throw at a couple quality defensive D-men? Orpik? Greene? There are quite a few out there as UFA's.
Anyone know when Doug Houda's assistant coaching contract with the bruins expires? He's the man behind their defensive system.
6 months, 4 weeks ago on Poll: Now What?
If the Leafs can't beat the Flames then fire Carlyle and hope for 4-1 to end the year and hopefully sneak back into the playoffs. Seriously, there is a disconnect between him and our core players, not to mention his "system" has allowed us to give up more shots than an expansion team does. We need structure and consistency.
@mcloki @Claymish Sorry, I didn't feel I needed to bring up the obvious about how much he is loved by the coach, and his mostly sub-par inconsistent play all season. I'm simple pointing out that his play of late is simply gasoline on the fire. Quite the opposite as to the performance of Kadri once the trade rumors began.
7 months, 4 weeks ago on Alex Edler – 2014 Trade Deadline Targets
If your name is Jake Gardiner, your a RFA this summer, and the Leafs two best defensive d-men Gunner and Gleason have more points each over the past 10 games, you might want to pack your bags.....just saying
Gunnarsson for MacDonald? Does that make sense for us? He is a complete upgrade and would give us a very good #1 pairing with Phanuef. Not to mention free up over $2.5 million so we can add some help for the playoffs. Sure we may lose him as a UFA, but i think he would want to stay, and we would have a very good combination for the next 5 years. Islanders get a very close replacement under an inexpensive contract for 3 years.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Thursday Mashup: Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening
Kulemin is certainly to be traded or in the least not resigned. Komarov will be back next year, and we will resign Bolland. Raymond will be back if he is reasonable and signs under $3 on a 2 yr deal. Pretty expensive third line though.....$3 Raymond, $3.85 Bolland, $2.5 Komarov, but one of the best in the league.

@wendelsway1 @DARF24 @Claymish lol So Suter and Parise sign with their crappy home team that wasn't even around when they were kids, but Stamkos won't be signing with the Leafs? It's all but certain.
9 months, 1 week ago on Toronto Marlies Report – January 20
Stamkos will be signing with the Leafs 16/17 season, the Lighting know this, so let's just pull the trigger now and make it happen.....what will it take guys? ......26 yr old Thornton was traded for Sturm, Primeau, Stuart. 29 yr old Jagr traded for Beech, Lupaschuk, Sivek...... Realistically Kadri, Franson, and a 1st would be a better return than those other teams got for their stars.
Is it just me or does Jim Hughes look like a washed up 80's star?.......About Kadri, leave him the F#*@$ alone. What? he isn't allowed to have a sophomore slump? Duchene's points per game his first 3 years was 0.68,0.84, then dropped to 0.48 before having back to back almost a point a game seasons. Kadri's first full season (sorta) 0.92, and this year 0.60. He could even tank it all of next year and still be putting up the points Duchene did his first 3 full seasons.

Peter Laviolette is a great coach, and is a perfect fit for many reasons. Nonis is clearly intimidated by Carlyle who is much older, where as Laviolette is only a couple years older. Make it happen ASAP. Not to mention he has an equally impressive coaching record as Carlyle but with much weaker teams.
9 months, 2 weeks ago on Game Recap: Game #45, Canes – Many vs. Leafs – Very Few
Red rover red rover, we call Laviolette over!
Gleason at his first Leaf practice.." So what your saying is forget how i have been playing defense since peewee, and just back away from them as they come in?" Carlyle..."That's @#&*%&! right."
@CanuckUKinToronto @Claymish It's ludicrous, who wouldn't want 50 chances at a 6% to score.....we are a joke to the entire league.
