Remember when people were on board with that Letang to Toronto summer rumour? F*ck that. He is horrible defensively and a no-show on offence this season.

Good article and made valid points. I will say this, the only rebuilds that are poised for success is when you can net that superstar with a top-5 pick.
Like the following:
TB = Steven Stamkos
STL = Alex Piterangelo
NYI= John Tavares
COL= Matt Duchene/Nathan McKinnon/Gabriel Landeskog
LA = Drew Doughty

I agree. But would rather McLaren/Orr in the lineup than Paul Ranger. Luv the mobility of Gardiner-Reily on the backend. Especially in the 2nd PP unit.
Just glad Lupul is in my pool!

Mentioned this last night. Leafs management have a penchant for acquiring quality players at a low cost (see Lupul, Phaneuf, Franson, JVR). Holland could turn out to be another. I like the fact Nonis passed on acquiring a 3rd/4th line NHL centre over the age of 30 and instead targeted a prospect with high upside. Finally, Leafs Mangment have turned the corner. This was not the philosophy over the past 2 decades.

No doubt. Let's hope so for Biggs' sake. But I am sure Spott is giving him every opportunity to produce in a top-6 role with the Marlies.

That's exactly what the Leafs are hoping for. Nonis is staying right on script. Will only give up youth and draft picks if another young player is coming the other way. Let's hope Leafs pro scouting staff saw something in Holland that was worth getting.
@dlb eh @daniel marois @ Anthony Petrielli
Just saying that pick turned into a bust - regardless if it was a second rounder or seventh. And yes, Blacker did turn in to Holland. If that produces and NHLer, than Leafs pro/amateur scouting staff can place a huge pat on their back.
@GreekGod @daniel marois @Cameron19 @TheCanucksnaphook
Agreed. But Couture and Biggs are two different type of players. One is pure skill and the other is a crash and banger. Biggs will definetely have the size to play in the NHL. But if he can't put up points, he won't stay in the league for too long.
@TheCanucksnaphook @daniel marois @Cameron19
The past two weeks he has played very well, especially on the score sheet. He has 7pts in 10 games. Just as a comparison - Biggs has one point in 12 games.
@Cameron19 @daniel marois @TheCanucksnaphook
Yeah, I guess it will be fair to judge Biggs in the next three years as a real potential NHLer- given he was drafted in the first round. But so far, a player like Leivo has soared passed him on the NHL prospect chart.
@Cameron19 @daniel marois
I will say this. The Leafs have made a habit acquiring players when their value was at its lowest (ie: JVR, Lupul, Phaneuf). Hoping Holland will join the trend where they finally hit their stride at the NHL level with the Leafs.
@TheCanucksnaphook @daniel marois
Well...I am hopeful I am wrong on Devane. I never understood why Morrison felt the need to use a third rounder on him thinking there was no way he would have been available in later rounds. I know way back then every GM was on the lookout for the next "Lucic" type prospect. But Devane has not shown that potential yet.
Was kidding about the Ryan and top-9 status. Sheesh. Those three still have a chance to be NHLers - all I'm saying is that they are WAY down the Leafs list with respect to call-ups or earning a regular NHL spot. As for Knodel, as I said, jury still out. He is putting up some nice numbers in his last yr of NCAA play.
@Alec Brownscombe @daniel marois
Yes Barron. Why was I thinking Bachelor Brad from the Bachelor Canada show! LOL. Incidently, Barron is the son of former Oiler Steve Smith - he of banking the playoff goal off Grant Fuhr that led the Flames to winning their series in the Battle of Alberta.
@dlb eh @Cameron19
Andrew MacWilliam was a seventh rounder and is looking more of a potential NHLer than a second rounder like Blacker.
Right....Ryan will be a top-9 forward by next year. My apologies Cameron.
@GreekGod @daniel marois
That's why I tagged Blacker as a jury still out type guy, but the fact is, has not been able to make the jump to the NHL. Even MacWilliam, who was drafted a year before Blacker, is higher on the depth chart than Blacker is.
Yes, Devane posseses all those qualities. But enough to play on a regular shift in the NHL or constantly being sent back and forth between NHL and AHL? That's really the question with him.
So.....the 2009 NHL draft picks the Leafs selected after Kadri seem to be career minor leaguers:
Kenny Ryan = (bust, at best career minor leaguer)
Jesse Blacker = (career minor leaguer but jury still out)
Jamie Devane = (career minor leaguer)
Eric Knodel = (jury still out but did not stand our at Leafs prospect camp this summer)
Jerry D'Aimgo = (Srry folks, looking like a career minor leaguer)
Brad Smith = (BUST)
