Thanks for the correction on the legalities of contracts. Did not realize the NHL was unlike sports such as Baseball. As far as Lundqvist, I believe he's the best at stopping the initial shot but rebound control is a very important aspect of goaltending and in this area he stumbles. Additionally, handling the puck is a talent that many goalies now bring to the game. At this, he is adequate at best. All this is my own opinion, obviously others disagree and that's just fine.

Sather should approach Richards about 're-negotiating his contract to make it more cap and team friendly. If Richards is disagreeable to that, buy him out! The Rangers as well as any team can be improved. As such in this day and age of caps it's important to remain financially flexible. Current player's who are not sold on the idea of leaving finance availability in the pursuit of the Cup are not in it to win it. As fans we root for our team to win it not for a player to get the most he can to the detriment of the pursuit. If Lundqvist fits the latter description then move him or let him play out his deal. He wasn't the greatest goaltender in the world this year and he won't be as he continues to age.

No, but thank you for asking. Let me ask you, are you an ass?

Of course it's all speculation on how a player's path has been affected by a Coach. It just seems like Torterella became more derogatory towards his players the last couple of seasons. Probably because of the expectation on winning a championship. The ones who have felt the brunt of Torterella's negativity have been those who have more recently joined. Young players make mistakes and need the support of coaches to mature to their potential not coaches who rip them at every opportunity.
I really don't think Mess is the right person at this point in time and I'm saying this as a huge Messier fan. But let me just say that every Coach needs a strong supporting cast. I suspect Torterella (who I despise) would still be around if he had someone better than Sullivan running the power play. Which brings to mind, how did Sullivan survive so long? He was running a woeful PP before Torterella even arrived!
