Very well played game by the Leafs. Dare I say it, they seem to be bringing structure to their play. Adding Booth and Lupul makes a big difference. I didn't like Robidas on left side and would prefer they move Rielly with Holzer. Anyway, good comeback. Kadri was a beast particularly in his own end. I never thought I would say that.

@peterbleafs @Burtonboy @Radar O'Rielly Living in Calgary I have a bunch of friends that are Oiler fans. They are the equivalent of Habs fans West. Don't ever feel sorry for them. Even in defeat they act like the smartest hockey people in the room. Enjoy their continued demise. They don't deserve McDavid, I hope they somehow draft 4th or 5th and pick another dud. btw, was at Flames game last night, there is some really good young talent on that team now, Gaudreau is fun to watch.

@Cameron19 @Savo43 @Coldincowtown That could work, I would still like Jordan though, as the lineup proposed its still quite smallish down the middle.

@Cameron19 @Coldincowtown @Savo43 I'll concede the serious injury concern. As for old 26 and hard minutes, I don't buy that argument. If that were true, we would be saying guys like Toews and Crosby are on the downside of their careers (different players for sure, but simllar age and also on many deep run teams).

@Cameron19 @Coldincowtown @Savo43 While not stated in my opening proposal, I would only do both trades together, not one or the other. I want all three Staals.

@Savo43 @Coldincowtown all part of the package, had to dump some salary and take on some salary and getting Eric to waive would be critical to getting all three to move (not sure if Jordan or Marc have NTC's).

@Savo43 @Coldincowtown Eric is 31, Phaneuf is 30. They both have their best years behind them. Marc and Jordan are a bit older than Kadri and Gardiner.

@Cameron19 @Coldincowtown @Savo43 No doubt, and two past stanley cup winners would put him in his place in a hurry if was behaving like a jack ass. Besides, we could still trade Kessel.

@Savo43 @Coldincowtown My logic is in trying to build a lineup that is bigger down the middle and has some winning pedigree. I admit the Staal experiment has not worked in Carolina, but part of that is due to shit goaltending and injuries. Two past cup winners. If Eric is a bust, we just don't resign him, freeing up cap space. As for Phaneuf, I would love to trade him straight up to NYR for M. Staal but there is no chance of that happening.

@Cameron19 @Coldincowtown @Savo43 I thought about trading Kessel, the challenge is he is a scoring machine and every team needs at least one. The Staal's would make sure Kessel just did his thing, which is score goals.

Here is a trade combination that would light up this board:

Phaneuf, JVR to NYR's for Staal and their first round pick;

Kadri, Gardner and the just acquired NYR pick to Carolina for the Staal brothers.

Kessel, E Staal, Lupul

Clarkson, J Staal, Nylander

Winnick, Holland, Booth

Komarov, Bozak, Santo

Staal, Franson

Polak, Rielly

Percy, Robidas

Three Ontario brothers all capable of handling the media nonsense.

@peterbleafs @Coldincowtown Maybe, but I hope we never have to see the fan salute again, as i said on an earlier post, hang around the rink and sign autographs or give a few kids some hockey sticks post game if you want to endure to fans. This stick salute is such a joke.

Wow, only in Toronto could this salute gate become a front and centre story. Maybe the players were really pissed that fans were hating on them so bad that they threw jerseys on the ice and would have felt like hypocrites if they saluted so soon after that debacle. Maybe, just maybe the media could do their job and report on hockey stories not this crap. Wow, just wow.

I never liked the end of game salute. Comes across as cheesy. I actually like the fact that they ditched it and they should not bother going forward. If they really want to engage with fans, give out sticks to young kids in the crowd after a win.

@Leafs_17 @vinoa @Coldincowtown @MaxwellHowe it means a lot. He would fetch us a big return if he was dealt. I don't personally think Kessel is the root cause of our issues, but I would still make him one of many on the trade list if it allowed us to grab elite young talent to start a reset.

@Leafs_17 @vinoa That's why they might be ripe for a deal, just like us. Anyway, doubt it happens, but i'd take Seguin in a leaf uniform for Kessel right away just to reset our make up. Both great talents.

How about these trades:

Kessel to Dallas for Seguin (throw in a prospect);

Bernier, Gardiner and JVR to Boston for Rask and Hamilton;

Boom, we have exorcised two bad trades.

If Boston or Dallas would throw in Julien or Ruff for Caryle I would dance in the streets with cow bells on!

I would also move P9 to anyone willing to listen (ideally for a good two way winger) just to clearly hit the restart. Play the hell out of the kids and wait for top 5 pick again. I don't care if none of these trades make sense, I enjoyed typing them!

Maybe P9 can punch himself in the face and get concussed! Sorry, it was too easy. Poor Dion, I shouldn't pile on as that is too easy. This blowout is the best thing that can happen. Clearly shows Shanny that he has a big job ahead. On a happier note, I have now switched to Flames game and am quickly becoming a big fan of them.

@4thcolapse If our GM(s) wanted to make an impact move, a combination of Gards combined with any one of JVR/Lupul/Bozak might get us an impact centre. Colorado always seems like best fit to me. They have started winning lately so perhaps they will sit tight. It would be ironic if they tanked and somehow won the lottery for McD. Yet another great centre.

@PepTalk @Anthony Petrielli @Coldincowtown @docmma @T K O I think Franson gets a contract like Gardiner ($5mm +). One of Gardiner or Phaneuf goes if we resign Cody. I think Phaneuf would be tough to move at 7mm. Say what you want about Franson, he plays way tougher than Gards in his own end. The good news is Franson and Gardiner would both fetch a good return in trade market.

@docmma @Anthony Petrielli @T K O exactly, which is why it makes more sense to pair him with a speedy defence partner, Rielly or Gardiner. Franson has some elite skills that are under appreciated. He will grab a big salary if he goes UFA. He is average on D, but has high end offensive skills and an uncanny ability to get a quick dangerous shot away on the point. We will miss that if he moves on.

@deedrag @Bring the Cup Home @docmma Franson is growing on me. I think we generally do not appreciate how tough it is to find D men that can control the point and put up points like Franny does. I think if I had a choice I would re-sign him and see one of Gardiner or Phaneuf depart. I think Gardiner fetches a good player in return and would be fine seeing him play elsewhere as I think Rielly, Franson give us the offence we need long-term. We have some interesting decisions ahead.
