i love you hockey
i did that an hour ago. no takers.

Gardiner + Franson for Couturier
flip Couturier to COL for RoR
use Nylander to get a D replacement and graduate Loov
(then use our "get out of CAP" card)
8 hours, 25 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
i see. i don't know Couturier except in games versus the Leafs, and he's been alright. no RoR, mind you.
so when you said Laughton could be better, having seen plenty of Laughton, i just wasn't sure why we'd trade Kadri for him.
offense for defense i guess is all.
8 hours, 28 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
use Nylander to get the big fish. just make sure the guy we're getting IS the MAN
8 hours, 30 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
you think Laughton will be better than that? or are you trying to do a jedi mind trick on Philly's GM so he lets go of that superstar you're describing?
8 hours, 31 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
"Laughton could be as good or better than Couturier"
why do we want Couturier so badly?
8 hours, 36 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
though i think Philly would stop at the first one
9 hours, 6 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
what is he on about?
9 hours, 9 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
what does the hockey look like? is it AHL, NHL, international?
how's the checking and the tempo and the spacing and the charlie hustle overall?
what's your feeling watching the game?
men's league? Spengler Cup? Allan Cup?
9 hours, 12 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
i just learned something there
9 hours, 46 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
Franson's got the slingshot
i think Kessel's strength is really in how quick he gets it away in addition to the heat on it and the accuracy to where he intends it to go. he seems to have a few favourite placements, and it looks like an easy save when the goalie is set and on his game.
i remember scratching my head at how Gretzky could blow pucks by goalies so regularily where it looked very stoppable. he wasn't shooting to an opening he saw, but to an opening he knew would be there when the puck arrived. commonly over the butterfly pad and under the glove that was naturally on it's way to the top shelf,
Brett Hull actually processed which leg a goalie had his weight on so he could shoot there knowing how hard it would be for the goalie to transfer his weight back that way.
these guys are just that good.
i think when you're mechanics are second nature your brain gets a chance to get to this extra level of thinking. practice.

stick can't break when it's made of rubber
10 hours, 59 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
Kessel also has the ability to change where he's shooting to as he's pulling the trigger. with a wrist shot like Wendel's he's already picked his target as he loads up. a slapper is similar.
Kessel can be mid-shot and change his mind in a split second. i've seen him toe-over at the very end to shoot to the left while the goalie has already anticipated a shot to the other foot (it looks like the goalie is reading the path the stick is taking in part)
it's uncanny. i think Ovechkin does that too...possibly the crazy curves help.
Stamkos ust has incredible aim off of a one-timer. like. out of this world and unparalleled. soem guys struggle to hit the end of the rink let alone a soccer ball sized target regularily.
11 hours ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
was it Babcock who said DET was a fast team until they played BOS? i didn't know if that meant BOS was surprisingly quick, or if it meant DET didn't skate, or if it meant BOS played a game that slowed everything down.
11 hours, 10 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
have a peak at their players and you'll see Kassian, Dorsett and Sostito in that bottom 6.
we aren't quite there yet. i guess their Hansen could compare to our Winnik, Richardson to Santorelli, Clarkson to Kassian, Vey to Holland kinda.
but when we lost Kozun we lost our bite on the 4th line. we don't have the same make up.
11 hours, 12 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
how's Ehlers playing this year i wonder?
they have some good solid names on the D. are they playing?
11 hours, 18 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
as a Leafs fan, i'm happy to know Thornton isn't in the BOS lineup anymore. that 4th line used to change momentum on us consistantly. i don't know that they've replaced that.
Chara missing is an obvious loss as well. will Hamilton still make Leafs fans rue the Kessel trade tonight or will Leafs fans see a player who, like Gardiner, is still far from perfect despite having an abundance of potential?
11 hours, 20 minutes ago on Friday Mashup: Chara out 4-6 weeks, Leafs play Boston Saturday
well at least Mirtle's become a reporter again instead of trying to explain what it all means

sure wish there was some depth to this
12 hours, 27 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
i do hope, though, that 4th liners start contributing more. i would love to have a 4th line that we threw out there to gain some territory and bang some bodies instead of simply give the others a rest while they hope to hold on.
12 hours, 28 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
i would like to see pairs also. but with the 7 D we have i find it very awkward trying to figure out who belongs with who.

@Bring the Cup Home
i agree with this, but i also think Bozak is under-performing so far this year and i'm not sure why.
Fenton is right. a guy like Eric Staal between JVR and Kessel (could be) one more guy on the line to get the line going when it's not. Bozak doesn't have the same star power, though i never had a problem with him before. but it's really up to Phil to drive the success of that line. he rarely gets to ride someone else's wave.
so take the pressure off Kessel's line by improving his line, or improving the lines that go out before and after his line. 1C is tough. focus on what's more possible.
(i figure Fenton can't post so i'll try to keep his spirit alive)
12 hours, 57 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
i just always have gotten more satisfaction competing with the best. i never really felt good about beating second stringers.

we arent made up of bullies personalities
i think most teams are the same as us. i think the ones that win have that Babcock mentality: nevermind about you, we're the ones who decide.
13 hours, 1 minute ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
i always prefer to play teams at their best. but no one feels sorry for us when we're limping
13 hours, 4 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
and i can't figure out a good trade that's possible to change that. though i've tried. best thing that could happen is for everyone to play better so it won't be a factor.

@Bring the Cup Home
if we're aiming for playoffs then i think it's important to keep Reimer as long as possible
ultimately, though, i think he's the odd man out. could move him after the season, doesn't have to be mid-season.
Gardiner's never been a horse i've bet on, but his potential is still there to be great. i'm on board looking for a fair trade to give our top 6 a boost, if possible.
i'm a little worried about the defense with or without Gardiner on it. i don't know how much better the guys on the team can play. Loov is interesting to me.

a hot goalie can fix them

i can't work out any sensible trade with CAR, sorry
13 hours, 15 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
no Chara? let's pick on Douggie
oh wait. we're not built to do that. nevermind.
13 hours, 20 minutes ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
to BUF: Granberg + Broll + Biggs
to TOR: Stewart + Foligno
to EDM: Gardiner + Nylander
to TOR: Eberle + Nurse
i made sure there's something to make no one like that as much as me mooha ha

the only split could be Lupul-Kessel from what i've seen.
unless you get crazy and put a Komarov/Winnik type with Kadri and Kessel
but based on the first line doing well in a couple of games i don't think that'll happen right now.
i think with Winnik on that 2nd line we've seen 3 lines perform very well at times. often enough to give the coach hope that with a little more time they will get rolling.
1 day, 7 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
haha. no i was being an ass.
if the team starts playing 500 or better and we're still seeign less than 7 minutes a night regularily from the 4th line there will be legit concern.
right now i think the coach is putting the first line on the hot seat to get going, and using the other lines that are giving him good shifts, and nothing more.
haha. i remember that too. and i also laughed out loud and said "they LITERALLY JUST got off the ice after their SECOND shift"
then on that third shift, they did what they did on the previous two. played rope-a-dope in our own end.
that was hilarious. classic "experts"
1 day, 8 hours ago on Thursday Mashup: Bruins Saturday
nailed it. they are all Maple Leafs.
who do you think will make the team on the forward line this year?
Rielly has improved some things that held him back from regular ice time last year. he showed us one of his strengths is carrying the puck up ice quickly, and his next task is to show us he can do more with that.
his first pass is over-rated. i think that's the next thing he needs to evolve. it won't make him stand out to fans, but it will get him more ice time as he gives the forwards better opportunity to get something done.
Carlyle currently gets the 4th line out for a regular shift in the first 10 minutes of a game.
have we played a game yet that got to the 15 minute mark without a penalty?
then you'd be protecting the lead by playing the 4th line sparingly. is that wise, Randy?
Percy has the benefit of "new" that Rielly had last year and Gardiner before him. i like what i see from him too, but he's really just a good fit with Polak on a 3rd pair right now imo.
i think the D has been very ordinary. i'm seeing a lot of room for improvement, and i don't know that it will come from the players simply doing better. i think we need to remove three of them and bring in a new star. then bring Loov up.
no mention of Polak?
i'd hate to see Winnik lose ice time, but i do agree somewhat with you about giving Panik, Ashton and Frattin (and Holland) a chance to play with whichever top line needs the boost.
give those guys a chance to bring energy to the line and find a niche for themselves.
Panik apparently had a few meaningful shifts last game? that's the sort of thing that will hopefully get him that chance.
ok. how many games? not enough to matter.
the real problem last year was no 2nd or 3rd line. the 4th line was so insignificantly unimportant ... except that it could have been better and been our 2nd best line i suppose.
how many games did Orr and McLaren play in last season (at the same time)?
you're talking about something that is "convenient remembering"
that's good to hear. i only saw the 1st period, still haven't caught a replay.
Panik was waived by the Lightening. tell me again what he deserves and why?
i'm most eager to see: Loov and Brown
most likely to be All-Stars: Leivo
i still have no idea about: Johnson
i think "reasonable doubt" is appropriate. but that comes from channels that the team and league would have open before the public would be aware of anything. i.e. with law enforcement
do i assume too much? thoughts?
