Ashton, Holland, Ryan, Devane and i'll add D'Amigo for his fans

i'd hold Carrick and Broll back longer

maybe what Ross needs is a promotion to the NHL instead of trying to figure out what he needs to do in the minors

this says he missed the first round of the playoffs with an injury haha

when a guy doesn't snap back into form and is "replaced" and bumped down a line or two, is that really daming?  lol, come on

Michalek is a pretty good two-way player.  he's a big guy who's tough for the other team to manage, and he'd piss off OTT fans by signing with us.

also, since we have a few Marlies who will need some NHL experience some time next year, the fact he doesn't play a full season is a good thing, isn't it?

Michalek-Bozak-Kessel

JVR-Bolland-Clarkson

Lupul-Kadri-Holland

Hartikainen-Ashton-Komarov

extras: D'Amigo, Ryan, Bodie

jeez.  Kane, Toews, Saad and Bickell haven't been mentioned.

i really think we have some good offensive players who need some physical defensive minded (capable of protecting the puck and absorbing checks as well as giving them) to play opposite them

Spott's quoted saying they won't put development ahead of winning, going into the playoffs ... Holland's a great AHL centre, so let him continue to be good there.

if we open training camp with a competition between Holland and Kadri for a centre spot and one has to play some games on the wing to see what they can do, then that's not a bad situation.

Holland's Jeff Carter-lite and Kadri's a cross between Roy/Richards after all.

when you get into a playoff game you will play the shit out of your best players, and the ones who are most effective on that particular night ... so the 4th line won't get a lot of ice time really.  they'll just go out and hit and create some commotion.

i think Biggs and Abbott will slide into the lineup at some point.  Biggs is better suited as a defensive conscience on a line that gets meangingful minutes, and looking at the lineup it seems balanced with or without him.

i wouldn't bother with Gauthier at all unless players get hurt.

After finishing the season as the sixth-worst puck-possession team in the regular season, Montreal is now near the top of the rankings in the playoffs (beware the small sample size). They have racked up 56.2 per cent of the shots and shot attempts at five-on-five while the games are close (a measure known as Fenwick), and, per extraskater.com, have a .962 save percentage in those situations. Apparently it helps to have Carey Price in net.

“I think the biggest key to our success so far has been our forwards: how hard they work, the pressure they put on the puck all over the ice. Not just on the fore-check deep in their end, but at the bluelines, coming back, back-pressuring. When they do that … it allows us as defencemen to hold our gaps,” said Josh Gorges.

fond memories of McLaren laughing at him.  but that is winning hockey right there.

he looked good in each of the handful of games i followed him around the ice.  not perfect, but better than what we got from Franson this year.  other than 4 games, where Franson was actually ideal.

"It's not clear how Mr. MacLean believed Mr. Charron is a "local referee" for Habs games. He's from Gatineau, Que., a suburb of Ottawa, where the Senators play."

NHL ref growing up in Ottawa - would he have grown up a Sens fan?  It's likely his family already had their roots planted as either MTL or TOR fans or neither if they chose to hate both, fair enough.

It's one of those comments that gets the mob agreeing with you because no one decides to step back and think about it.

i wouldn't put money on that...something about Franson

Reimer would be expected, though.  but funny things happen when there are big changes at the top.  in this case, though, Bernier is the Liewe's favourite horse

for example, Franzen would be good for that top line and Ladd would be good on that 2nd line but they're "borderline too good" to choose.

the point?  is to determine if the core of players up front is good enough as is.  centre was intentionally left without a "proverbial number one"

someone else

The challenge if we resign Bolland, fill in the blanks:

1. no more than one line can be considered "defensively challenged"

2. add at least 4 players who will hit hard and hit often

3. at least 2 lines that can press for a tying goal late in a game

4. at least 2 lines that can defend a lead late in a game

5. at least 2 lines that can play primarily in the other team's end

If you can't use our own players, suggest a player in the league that could get the job done ideally.  The catch, is that they cannot be a player who would get enough votes to make an All-Star team...some consideration is acceptible.

it's not that they suck, it's that when they aren't making all the routine saves their teams tend to lose.

and Reimer and Bernier were not good enough down the stretch, they'd admit as much to themselves.  like most teams, we need them to be at their best to give us a chance each night.  like most teams.  so it's not damning them.

instead of paying the players, maybe the new extra money could go back into minor hockey somehow.

for instance, make it affordable for more people.  resources for better development opportunities for players and coaches.  strengthen the entire system.

hmm.

there are some franchises that do well, and some that don't.  but when the business is strong everyone benefits without having to get a paycheck.

they could ride a nice bus, or an old bus with no bathroom.  they could pay for their own 300 dollar sticks.  they can have muffins and juice together when they wake up, and pay trainers and people to carry their bags for them.

what people need and what they deserve is getting muddled.
