Great read.  Literally my thoughts exactly but well recited, polished and written well.  I know Phook wont agree with whats been written but hey, you can have different opinions I guess .

@DeclanK @TheCanucksnaphook @ingy56 hey. I have been thinking he was more likely to be targeted here to over a Booth, Frattin (out of blue) and Kontiola. Thought this woulda been a FAF signing by us

@TheCanucksnaphook @lukethenuke you really didnt like them to bolster a nonexistting bottom half of a roster with some quality role players and reclamation projects all on CHEAP deals?

2 days, 8 hours ago on Toronto Maple Leafs sign Daniel Winnik to a one-year deal

Reply

@TheCanucksnaphook @lukethenuke Thats what Im scared about... if he falls off the cliff.  If he plays like he did before injury, then I am happy.

I like Santa, Frattin, Komorov and this the most.

Booth has some serious upside but could just as easily see him fall out.  And the Kontiola i dont know anything so no opinion

See I just heard that this move was made, but thought he would have been the one signed over Kontiola and Booth (as in those were bigger surprises).  The only thing hat surprises me now is that they STILL signed him after getting those other guys.

.

EIther they want an intense camp and a 5th line of extras, or they are gonna deal franson and one of these depth guys (Ashton, Winnik etc..) for a more established dman or rightwinger

@Burtonboy @vinoa probably will be winger if he plays this or next year... if groomed longer than could be centre.  Could always start on wing then transfr over as he plays but that may be harder to do.

@Yaknowwhat good.  Trade him when we have a quality backup ready.  No one out there good, and our young guys still too inexperienced.

Why make a position of depth to lack of depth when we dont have to.

Great deal, the second year is great! Increases eventual trade value.

I must say, wouldnt it be something if he takes the net over next year.  Would be funny cause of everyone has crowned bernie (although he does deserve it based on play, skill, hype, pedigree and potential... dont think he would "bust" all of a sudden)

Reply

@Komas Taberle @lukethenuke @Burtonboy haha Im friends with cody hodgson and his brother and know him a bit and i havent heard him say he wants to come as a UFA.  Like maybe end of career but he REALLY loves where he is now and is a low kew guy, dont see him wanting to come under a spotlight or in his prime.

.

But his family do want him here for sure.

@Burtonboy @lukethenuke maybe other candidates liek a regier recently axed or some good assistants or VP of Hockey Ops else where that we can pry if we give more money and a better title?

@Cameron19 @lukethenuke Ive been waiting for someone to ask here haha.  I dont want to start shit, but will say Hodgson doesnt want to at all, at least now as a young guy and while in prime.

.

Stammer holds his cards real close man, but he hasnt actually denied it ever.  Feel like he is torn, but he is happy where he is also.  No one really asks him when away from the rinks... you know, like people dont want to bring this stuff up around them.

.

His fam wants him here, as do his friends... really bad lol

Remember there is also another body coming into management (this summer chances are) so lets chill out with the Dubas hype and early crownings.  He will be groomed I am sure, but like I read below, Bowman worked 8 years before becoming GM, and Im sure, maybe not as long but same sort of path where he assists and gets good at that then is handed the keys to a team (maybe someone takes him from here later).

.

For all we know, a Darcy Regier (or someone like him) could be brought in for veteran leadership in the office, but of course, only someone who isnt a dinosauer (dont know if he specifically is or not).  Needs to be a guy who thinks the way Shanny does and is progressive.

.

I still see Dubas as a great collector and ideas person but not a decisive decision maker, maybe because his age, but that should come.  Also, teams would want to pick on his ass if he was a GM and abuse him because he is so new, and thats why I think he needs plenty time in office, and why i could see another vet executive brought in to accompany he and Nono

@Bernier_The_Boats think he was decent enough at evaluating players, but was pressured to make moves and that probably made his trading worse too.
