That NoNo interview was a great watch. I'm so pumped for the season to start!!
4 days, 1 hour ago on Monday Mashup: Loov returning to Sweden? Leafs invite Cal Heeter to camp?
@whalz @Zeus_WilliamMapleLeafs doesn't help that both of those guys played for teams in our division
6 days, 4 hours ago on Maple Leafs invite Henrik Tallinder and Brendan Mikkelson to training camp
I've always liked Tallinder but he isn't the same these days. Worth a look but I'd be surprised if he makes the team.

@ingy56 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan things are starting to pick up. Its a sure sign the hockey season is close

@wiski I like her nicely placed leaf tattoo? sticker? Either way I can't stop looking at it ;)
1 week, 5 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Getting closer
Columbus and Johansen still not getting along. I hope they lose him somehow
@Cameron19 @4evrblue @MaxwellHowe Upgrade Kozun. I added him as a throw in based on the 1st lol
@Cameron19 @4evrblue @MaxwellHowe It would look like an underpayment without the 1st to me. Unless you want to replace it with something else?
The real question is will Staal waive his NTC and leave his brother on the team and another in the system?
@Cameron19 @MaxwellHowe statistically they are similar. staal is better on the defensive side. spezza asked for a trade so that likely lowered the price a bit too. Not sure how much more it would take but it might not be that much. A lot will depend on how good he's doing by Christmas also.
1st, prospect, young player?
that could look like:
1st, Kozun, Holland (if Holland is on a similar 35pt pace as Chiasson)
@Cameron19 A Burke rehire? lol
@mike_84 the inlaws moved out yesterday after a year....... gotta say I'm having a nice morning lol
@philthethrill @CanuckUKinToronto I will avoid the leafs mobile app. It sounds terrible lol
@Burtonboy @4evrblue they aren't giving an explanation. He can like comments but can't post which is what happens when you get banned
@philthethrill they only play 8 friday games. 7 of those will be back to backs where saturday is the second game.
@philthethrill ???? they play almost every saturday. They only get every second saturday in january and miss one in december but other than that they play every saturday
@Marlies Man @4evrblue @mike_84 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan lol you said it. Golf this and golf that and cheering for the Americans in the Olympics and Habs in the playoffs!?!?!?!
I just don't know what took Alec so long lol
1 week, 6 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Getting closer
@mike_84 @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan yup, finally, I've been emailing Alec for years asking for this to happen ;)
@Murph2417 hahaha priceless!!
@cryptotho hahahahahaha we just don't know if Naz is a legit top 2C? The guy has played 126 games in the past two seasons and has posted 94pts.
This dude is a top 2C. Leaf fans just don't know when they have something good
1 week, 6 days ago on Dave Nonis on Tim & Sid
@ingy56 good read. can't wait to see what we have in this guy
FUCK OFF HEALY!!!!!!
just getting into game shape, the season is just around the corner :)
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Expansion Talk
@Murph2417 @4evrblue You could go even further there and substitute JVR in for Schenn. James would score a lot of goals with Tavares.
2 weeks, 5 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Expansion Talk
@Luke_R @4evrblue If I could I would edit the original post to look like this:
Out: Kaberle, Gunnarsson, 2nd (John Gibson)
In: Polak, Biggs, Gleasons buyout lol
@Luke_R @4evrblue That entire deal looks terrible. The deal to move up and take Biggs looks really bad in particular right now. Gibson looks like he's on the fast track to the NHL and Rakell had a really good first year in the AHL while getting a few NHL games in. If Burke had just kept the picks and made those selections the Kaberle deal would look great for us.
@Murph2417 Out of pure interest I'm going to look at who the Isles got from that clusterfuck of dealing.
Out: 1st rounder in 08 (Luke Schenn), 2nd rounder in 09 (Kevin Lynch) 1st rounder in 09 (Nick Leddy), Mike Comrie, Chris Campoli, 7th in 09 (Erik Haula)
In: 1st rounder in 08 (Josh Bailey), 2nd rounder from Nashville (Aaron Ness), 3rd rounder from Chicago (traded Leafs pick to get it) (Jyri Niemi), 4th rounder from Chicago (also from trading Leafs pick) (David Ullstrom) 1st rounder in 09 (Calvin De Haan)
......... I think this is right........ holy sweet mother of God
As one deal it would look like:
Schenn, Lynch, Leddy, Comrie, Campoli, Haule
Bailey, De Haan, Ness, J. Niemi and Ullstrom
@Murph2417 @4evrblue tracking all of those picks is crazy. they traded and reacquired picks in big deals. crazy shit.
@Murph2417 @4evrblue for sure. I'm tracking down all the players the Isles got out of that deal for a kick lol. What a mess
@Murph2417 @4evrblue I guess it depends on who you pick. take Schenn for example.
We traded up from 7th to get him. The Isles traded down further but Colin Wilson was picked in the #7 spot. The Isles then had a pick of 2nd and 3rd rounders from the 08 and 09 draft. They chose the 3rd from the 08 draft and 2nd from 09. They again dealt the 3rd to Chicago who in turn picked Shawn LaLonde. The 2nd in 09 bounced around a bit. The Isles traded it to Columbus and the Jackets traded it to Anaheim who picked Mat Clark.
Of course we all know we later traded Luke for JVR. So essentially the deal for us could conceivably be said to look like:
Out: Colin Wilson, Shawn LaLonde, Mat Clark
Considering LaLonde and Clark have a combined 3 NHL games while LaLonde played last season in the DEL and JVR had almost as many goals last season as Wilson had points I'd say thats a pretty great deal for us.
Maybe the Leafs should just use their picks instead of trading them?
The Versteeg deal looks much better. The 1st and 3rd were used instead of being dealt and saw us land Percy and Leivo. Both look like they will make the NHL. The question right now is how good will they be in the big league?
I love tracking old draft pick trades like the one for Colborne. The Kaberle trade, for example, looks terrible. Essentially the leafs made this deal:
Out: Kaberle, Gunnarsson, 2nd (39th overall John Gibson)
In: Polak, Tyler Biggs, John-Michael Liles
That looks pretty shitty right now. How it all breaks down:
Kaberle to Boston for a 1st, 2nd and Colborne
The 1st from that deal (Rickard Rakell) was combined with the Leafs' own 2nd (John Gibson ugh) and sent to Anaheim to move up in the draft and select Biggs.
The 2nd rounder was used to trade for Liles
Colborne was traded for a 4th which was then flipped with Gunner for Polak.
@Murph2417 @4evrblue pretty sure its the top finnish league
@Murph2417 @4evrblue St. Louis used the pick to draft Ville Husso. A 6'1" 185lb goaltender that played for HIFK this season in the Finnish liiga. He played 41 games and went 19-14-5 while putting putting up a 0.923SV% and 1.99GAA.
Not sure how good that is for that league but the numbers look solid. Not that i'm trying to dump on the trade.
Saw Colbornes name mentioned below and got curious about who we drafted with that pick so I looked it up. It turns out that was the pick we sent with Gunner to St. Louis for Polak. So essentially the trade looks like this:
To STL: Gunnarsson, Colborne
To TOR: Polak
@CanuckUKinToronto Frattin is my pick. 24 goals, 18 apples for 42pts while providing energy and a defensive game alongside Naz and JVR.
@Burtonboy @4evrblue @-Keon lol its more likely they guaranteed him a spot on the opening day roster without having to fight for it
@-Keon @4evrblue leaving 1 open spot is good enough for me. Christian Folin was said to be the best player to come out of the college ranks as a free agent last year but the Leafs couldn't even look at signing him. Would be nice to be able to make a pitch for these guys.
@-Keon @4evrblue true enough. does Nylander slide if he's in the AHL?
@-Keon NoNo didn't leave himself any wiggle room last year. I don't expect him to change.
@TuckerForPunishment @4evrblue they make themselves suffer lol
@TuckerForPunishment @4evrblue Thats awesome man. He'll be thrilled I'm sure.
My sister and brother in law are moving back to alberta in a few weeks so I am thinking about going up in March to see their new house. The reason Im thinking March is so I can see the Leafs at Rexall and the Saddledome. Not sure if I can afford it just yet though. Won't know until November-ish.
@Murph2417 @Doorman I lived in Sylvan Lake for a little while on a couple of occasions. If you haven't gotten out there you definitely should
@TuckerForPunishment TAKE IT!!!
@phaneufoundlander I agree its an improvement over Orr and Mclaren but I'm not sure how much. I would love to see them finish 2nd or 3rd in the east but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't in the playoffs again.
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Expansion Talk
@Jmessih yup. hockey is just around the corner though. can't wait for training camp
@MaxwellHowe @sniperstar I think my keepers would be:
Goaltenders: Bernier (we'd lose Reimer for sure)
Defense: Dion, Rielly, Gards, Granberg, Polak
Forwards: JVR, Phil, Naz, Nylander, Bozak, Lupul, Holland, Frattin and Leo
This is assuming Nylander and Granberg aren't protected because they played pro overseas.
@deedrag thats only if an expansion team wants him for the next 7 years
@MaxwellHowe @sniperstar @4evrblue I can't find much about it. The year Nashville joined the league 1st and 2nd year pros were exempt. So guys on ELCs that haven't played pro like Gauthie and Finn would be exempt as would the young guys like Leivo, McWilliam, Percy and Biggs.
Not sure what would happen to guys like Nylander and Granberg as they have played pro overseas. They might be at risk.
Who would you guys leave available if there were an NHL expansion draft today?
The rules used in the last expansion draft were as follows:
"protect either one goaltender, five defensemen, and nine forwards or two goaltenders, three defensemen, and seven forwards."
For teams protecting only one goaltender, there was no experience
requirement for those left unprotected. For teams protecting two
goaltenders, each goaltender left unprotected must have appeared in
either 10 NHL games in the 1999–2000 season or 25 games in the 1998–99 season and 1999–2000 seasons combined. A goaltender had to be in net for at least 31 minutes in each game for the game to be counted against these totals.
At least one defenceman left unprotected by each team had to have appeared in at least 40 games in the 1999–2000 season or 70 games in the 1998–99 season and 1999–2000 seasons combined. At least two forwards left unprotected by each team had to have met the same requirements."
