That was brutal for sure

Subban dominates the ice more then anyone in the league when he's at his best. People talk about Subban and Karlsson like they are liabilities. For every 1 bad play they make 10 good/amazing plays.

Subban also spends most of his offseason doing charity work. He's a class act

Anyone know of any trades that have gone down in August in recent history? Is there any chance we move Franson and/or Reimer or do August trades virtually never happen?

Right. They have Prust, we have clarkson. Moen is comparable to bodie. Not seeing how our lineup is soft especially with the additions we have made. We will be a harder team to play against then last year no doubt.

The time of the heavy weight is dead. Clowe had 7 goals and 33 pims last year. He's washed up.

Engelland is purely awful. One of the worst contracts in Ufa history because he's barely an nhl dman let alone worthy of a multi year contract.

You need team toughness. The guys bb pointed out are not soft. What heavyweight do the hawks have? Habs are soft as butter but are far more successful then we are.

Really? Didn't know that. I've never been a big Ashton fan but he had a great camp and was dominant in the AHL and still couldn't get in the lineup for more then 5 mins a game on the 4th line. Carlyle is a moron

I could see Ashton being dealt too. Carlyle doesn't seem to be a fan for whatever reason

People keep putting frattin with them and it's driving me nuts. Frattin will be lucky to be on the 4th line.

I think Santa would be a great fit. Kadri often lacked jump last season and Santa is a ball of fire. Might be the spark plug to help get Kadri going on some nights.

Well the Habs dicked around with PK and it back fired. Not saying Gardiner is going to win a Norris but he's going to get even more ice time next year and increased responsibility. Would be a smart move to sign him now before he breaks out

I don't recall the last time the leafs immediately committed to a young player long term (no bridge deal). Will be interesting to see if they decide to do that with gardiner. I think it would be a wise gamble.

One playoff appearance in a lockout shortened season. Mission accomplished. Leaf fans love defending mediocrity because we are used to so much failure. any type of success gets glorified.

If he's playing for the leafs at all this season that's a sign that things have gone horribly wrong

Well they are different situations but they do have a similar theme.

At the end of the day it comes back to one of my biggest criticisms of Burke in that he was too opinionated and left himself way too vulnerable to criticism.

2 days, 23 hours ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

It is and it isn't. Burkes point if I recall is that the contract would inflate the market. Doesn't the contract his club gave to a 6-7 plug of a dman do the same thing?

2 days, 23 hours ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

Right. Now he's on the other end of the spectrum and all the sudden it's ok.

Isn't that why Edmonton signed penner to an inflated contract? Kinda hypocritical....

Sure I'm not saying he's a moron. He did some good things. But people trend to talk about him like he was a genius.

So you Burke lovers out there still think we would be better off with him?

Calgary just gave Engelland one of the worst contracts in recent history. "Big and tough". Burke isn't a fan of the analytic models out there.

Shanny signing guys who can compete in all aspects and at low costs. Drafting skill. Putting an emphasis on analytics. We are finally trying to get ahead of the curve instead of always playing catch up.

Remember when Burke wanted a top 6 bottom 6 team? Then realized he needed a top 9 bottom 3? Always a few steps behind....

Very solid depth. Biggest problem is number 1 centre. Outside of that not too shabby

If KC makes the playoffs this season the jays are officially the biggest joke in mlb.

Had the raptors tanked last season like they were trying to they would be one of the biggest ongoing failures in the nba.

Leafs have been a disgrace for a solid decade.
