A couple winters ago after one of my sons complained about the Leafs in the standings, I said to him, "When Kulemin-Grabovski-MacArthur are the third line, then Toronto will be a contender." Now I catch myself daydreaming that Komo-Santa-Whoever is our fourth. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, so I have little interest in hearing "Grabo wasn't a checking centre" or similar yadda-yadda's.

Clarkson doesn't seem to be falling down as much this season, so I think that sums up the overall progress I've seen the last two years.

@Loric76 The overall length of the chocolate bar is shortened after the single piece is removed, the fact it's still a rectangle is what's deceiving.

I was at the game last night with my son. About half way through i said to him, "This is like the All-star game but without the skill." So many guys mailing it in.

Nylander is wonderful to watch live, very slick and graceful. Chiasson and Stone looked good for Ottawa.

Ballard had a plan, it just wasn't about hockey. He cut corners anywhere and everywhere so he'd have more money to buy up Gardens stock. His goal was to own 100%. The rink sold out no matter how many games the Leafs lost, so Ballard had no incentive to put money into the club. If the rink had been half full, it would have played out very differently.

@hoolihan That's a hand grenade question. I doubt there would have been an open and honest answer to that.

@Yaknowwhat Some guys only feel right in a certain jersey. Wendel Clark was like that (not saying Frattin is Wendel). But hopefully Frattin's one of those guys.

@Mattmark I've been saying all tournament that if Brazil loses the fans will burn down whichever stadium they were playing in. Looks like that's off the books though, as no fire could burn through the tears.

I love Frattin and hated to see him go. Glad he's back. Not everyone has to be Crosby good to be appreciated, and I appreciate his hustle and skills. Hope he has a successful return. I'd much rather see him on Kadri's wing than Clarkson.

Have Kulemin (much hope) centre that third line, drop Holland to centre the fourth. No way RC could leave a fourth line of Ashton, Holland and Clarkson on the bench all season.

If we lose Kulemin I'm done with this team. Not that Kulemin's a star player but he's a an incredibly effective role player that continuously works hard and is difficult to play against. If we can't find room for a guy like that I have no interest in their Plan B.

Something I think that's close in value as a good power play is the ability to grind other teams down in their own end when 5-on-5. Lengthy possession/pursuit wears them down, and comes to fruition with an icing. Fresh legs can come on while the other team has stay with the same exhausted five on the ice. Goal scoring opportunities then are almost like having a pp. Three lines are needed to be able to play this way to be effective in the long haul, leaving the top line to be a pure skill/score off the rush line.
