@The_Polish_Cannon I wonder if his job's not going to be in jeopardy by the end of December.

@wiski Bettman's negotiations for the Canadian TV rights can only be good for the Leafrs. With the new Rogers TV money coming in, this is what Mirtle had to say about the cap: "The crazy part is what happens if you project that continued 5 per cent growth into the future. With the new TV deal added in, the league could easily have an $80-million cap by 2016-17 and a $100-million cap by the time the CBA expires in 2022"
A higher cap gives the Leafs (and other big-market clubs) a huge boost. The smaller market teams get more money but most will just struggle to hit the floor financially, meaning the Leafs are going to be among a small number of clubs that can afford to hire star players. Aside: this is why I wasn't sweating the Clarkson signing
@Dreamsof67 @PeterZeroOne @mr_hanie In this particular game, it looked like the Leafs got off to a pretty solid start in the 1st, before McLaren's penalty killed all the momentum.
Tired legs might explain why our 3rd periods are usually lame efforts (and why we can't hold a lead in the 3rd). The players are tired by that point in the game. Although today was an exception, the 3rd period was decent tonight.
@mr_hanie Some people have been saying that the Leafs look "gassed" on some nights. And I think maybe there's something to that observation. If we had a better 4th line that could eat up minutes and not get scored on, and maybe chip in a goal occasionally, maybe the other forwards get more of a rest. Then they cycle more effectively, take fewer penalties, etc.
We need to ditch this fourth line. To my eyes the Leafs controlled possession in the 1st until Frazer McLaren's boneheaded penalty shifted momentum. Then the Leafs were controlling play in the 2nd until that disastrous 4th line shift. The numbers kind of bear it out too:http://www.extraskater.com/game/2013-12-03-sharks-maple-leafs

@Cameron19 I don't know if I would call this an even contest. Shots are 36 to 25 for the Sharks
@ProfessorRance @TheCanucksnaphook Why do we have to have Orr in there?
@ingy56 @loomx yeah but their fourth line played keepaway well enough to bring on their 2nd line. shouldn't Carlyle have sat McLaren at least?

@rustynail @MaxwellHowe says something, doesn't it?
@MaxwellHowe yeah, that sucked. you could totally see it coming.
@Shift_Disturber1 I think a lot of those goals against were on the PK as well

@reenergized @Mcost61 Yep, I might be wrong but what I remember about Phaneuf's goals is that they tend to be wristers or snap shots when he pinches in. Just taking a huge whack at it and miss the net altogether isn't all that effective. I think it's better to have a more precisely directed shot that has a better chance of being deflected or redirected in.

@mr_hanie 2nd was nothing to write home about either...
@darthNihilus @PeterZeroOne Kevin Payne got canned after less than a year on the job as TFC GM by Leiweke.
Carlyle sounds kinda shaken, does he think his job is in danger?
we needed the two points tonight. refs screwed us but.... well I'm not looking forward to this December, that's for sure
@Pent_House @LeafsForLife @Not Norm maybe, but Bernier deserves credit. he saved the point for us.

@Wharf Rat I'll tell you exactly what Nonis is going to do. This December we've got the following opponents: San Jose, Dallas, Ottawa, Boston, L.A., St. Louis, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Florida, Phoenix, Detroit, NYR, Buffalo, Carolina.
How many games do you think we win out of that schedule? If we're out of the playoff picture by the Winter Classic, Nonis waits until afterward then fires Carlyle to save his own rat ass
@juliesucks December worries me.
