Yea, lucky for them they did, because at any point in time another team could of walked in and signed him to an offer sheet, thats a smart option to have looming over your RFA's through the entire summer.

lol why? Because I wouldnt let our two most talented RFA's sit in limbo without contracts through the month of August just for the sake of something to talk about? Yea, what a bad GM move that would be.

The Leafs went from 3rd most Cap room to like 4 worst amount of cap room in one off season... Burke set us up for this off season and all of JFJ's mistakes have been corrected by now, im sorry to tell you bud if there are cap issues its due to the contracts Nonis signed this off season.

I really hope your right @mcloki, personally I wont be able to take a sigh of relief untill I know that Kadri AND Franson are locked up for next year. Theyre both too good and too young to loose, I really really do hope your right and the cap isnt as big of an issue as some ghave made it seem.

Yes Komarov has a Opt-out option in the 2nd year of his KHL agreement if he wants to come back to the NHL. If all goes well we will only be without him for a year.... two tops. *fingers crossed*

Seriously? You wouldnt be furious with Nonis if we loose Franson because of poor cap management? it was mistakes like that, that lead to 9 years out of the playoffs, they are unacceptable and fans like you are why GM's get away with making major mistakes like this. I wont stand for it and if you will, well i suggest you go be a Habs fan.

I have been a big fan of Nonis thus far and everything he's done this off season but If we loose Franson (who finished 8th in Defencemen scoring last year) due to Nonis's poor cap management I will personally start the "Fire nonis" Chant from Maple Leaf's Square. I really truely believe he is smarter than this, untill something is done I still remian by his side and have faith that Nonis will not let this happen. I believe that  Franson will be a Leaf next season. He damn well better be....

There is a REALLY SIMPLE solution to this Franson problem. TRADE LILES, at first I wanted to see if we could get some value from JML but if we have to recieve a bag of pucks for him in order to keep Franson, IMO its a no freaking brainer. I am not gonna lie, I have liked the moves for the most part this off season, but if those moves result in us losing Franson ill be pissed. He needs to be resigned and a fair dollar amount of course, what do you think?

Because weather or not you like those face punchers, they make the likes of Kadri, Kessel, Lupul feel safe on the ice, and that in its self is a very valuable asset, would you really like to go back to the days when we were a soft as hell team that got pushed around on a nightly basis? Because I sure dont, I would agree that we should only dress one at a time, but to get rid of them all together would be stupid IMHO.

JML has had one concussion since he has arrived here in Toronto, and I do not remember any history in COL, and it was done on an increadibly hard hit that could have happened to anyone, and surely would have concussed most people. I dont really classify that as "concussion history"

Heatley, although has a great shot is one of the laziest slowest players in the NHL, MIN can keep him, and as far as I heard Nonis exhausted all trade options for Grabbo, he even opffered to retain salary and there were no takers, no body wanted him, and the fact that he is still not resisgned says a lot too...

Clarkson's ACTUAL salary the last couple of years of his contract are a lot lower than 5.25M. MEANING, that any team who is trying to hit the Salary Cap floor those years could find Clarkson a very attarctive piece. Verteran Experience and helps them get to the cap floor. If Alfie can sign a new contract at the tender age of 41 Clarkson should be EASY to trade away at the age of 33-36.

Even if the answer was truely "No", there is no possible way he would EVER admit it, what do you think that would do to Bigg's and Percy's confidence.

Just assume in heindsight that most teams would draft differently if they got a second chance at it after seeing what the players would become two years later. Mistakes are going to be made for every team at the draft.

So as you can see Toronto has a abundant amount of high end talent either already making an impact on the big club, or will soon be doing so. Regardless of wether or not these players remain Leafs for the next 5 or 6 years, or if any of them get traded in this off season or in the future. They are all increadibly valueable assests to this organization. The future looks increadibly bright for this Leafs team and it's all due to solid drafting, trading and patience that should pay off in spades in the upcoming years. This is an exciting time to be a Leaf fan and we are only going to up from here. We have already made the playoffs and nearly knocked off the Eastern Conference Champions. With that experience now in the books and the wave of high end talent entering the oragization the only place left to go is up. Say what you want about Burke and Nonis, but it was their diligent drafting and trading that has put us in this oppurtune position, and I think we owe them a thank you.

James Van Riemsdyke, Drafted 2nd Overall in 2007A big bodied Power Forward drafted high with equally high expectations. In my opinion he never got a fair shake in Philly. They just had far too much Offensive depth on that team for him to get high enough in the line up to truely make an impact, but since arriving in Toronto he has been givin those top 6 minutes a player like himself needs to make an impact, on top of that coach Carlyle has been working with him, getting him to use his massive frame, crash the net and create havoc for opposing teams and their goaltenders and it has payed off, producing points in his first season with The Leafs at a rate higher than he ever did in Philly. He is young and getting better with each passing day. He will be a main stay in Toronto for years to come, and we're happy to have him.

Morgan Rielly D, Drafted 5th Overall in 2012Built much in the same design as Jake Gardiner. Rielly has increadible skating ability, and eilite first pass and can Quaterterback a Power Play. Although Rielly was drafted 5th overall and was not the first Defencemen taken in 2012, (that was more due to a season ending knee injury.) In fact some are saying that Rielly was actually the best defencemen taken in 2012 (but that is to be debated and is still to be determined) Rielly has fully recovered from his knee injury and the sky is the limit for this young player. With our back end being run by Rielly and Gardiner for the foreseable future, Toronto's defence is going to start to look scary.

Phil Kessel RW, Drafted 5th Overall in 2006I don't even need to do a summary of Kessel do I? Increadibly fast, Top 10 scorer in the league year in and year out with his increadible wrist shot, completely underrated passer and is even developing a nice two way game with some impressive speedy back checking. Enough Said.

Joffery Lupul LW, Drafted 7th Overall in 2002Lupul has had an interesting career to say the least. Drafted high, expectations were huge for him. I am sure many say at the beginning of his career he was a bit off a dissapointment. He was a servicable player but never met expectations like many were hoping. He was traded a few times and also was plagued with some pretty serious injuries in his career. I watched an interesting interview with Lupul not too long ago, where he said that when he first got to the NHL, he was just happy to be here, chipping in when he could without really worrying about improving his game. After a serious back injruy almost ended his career he got what he thought was his final chance in the NHL with the Blue and White and something clicked inside of him, he matured. He realised just how lucky he was to be playing the NHL and that it could end at any given moment. Lupul was no longer happy coasting along in the NHL off of his natural God given talents. He realised that even with all of his natural skill, that he still had to work hard every single day, at every practise, in every off season and of course in every game to become a star in the league. Since then a new Lupul has been born, although his career has still been hampered by injuries here and there since landing in Toronto, theres no doubt in anyones mind, that when he plays, he pretty much has an impact in almost every single game he plays in, usually on the score sheet, but also now as a leader for the young Leafs squad.
