@Yaknowwhat @dlb Mad What if MLSE were the one to own both teams? Then there's no competition, MLSE would have a second golden goose.
1 week ago on Spencer Abbott signs one-year deal
@Doorman @LN-093 The email is probably why the guy wrote the tweet below.
@.JVR. @LN-093 True, they shouldn't have sold so many tickets but if they did it for a small group it wouldn't have been worth their while to have the event. There was a lot of staff there. Any time you have a leafs event there's going to be a massive turnout.
@Reimocerous @wiski @LN-093 The email mentioned it would be a present leaf but I have my doubts if it's a real autograph.
@.JVR. @LN-093 You know what I can't really blame the Leafs other than for the hefty price. You have thousands of leaf fans show up for about 4 things to line up for. As soon as I got there they told me the dressing room tour was full so I got pissed as hell. However, during the "talk show" thingy guess what? It was empty because everyone was at the talk. So, I did end up doing the dressing room tour with barely 10 other people all to ourselves.
Wow, lots of upset people must 've complained after fanfest. I just got an email thanking me for going to fanfest and apologizing for the lineups. Plus, I would be getting marlies tickets and an autographed photo of a leaf.
@DJBrianBurke @Mcost61 @Dangle_My_Berries @Luke_R @LN-093 Interesting that Cohon announced he wouldn't extend his contract with the CFL just weeks before Leiweke's announcement. He's got the inside track?

@ingy56 @LN-093 It may have been Leiweke's plan but why would MLSE hire him for what could be just one year?? Is MLSE really this inept?
@Dangle_My_Berries @Luke_R @LN-093 @Mcost61 Leiweke probably told MLSE "I'll take the job and see how I like it/ living in Toronto for a couple of years, then I'll commit to more years". After dealing with the snake pit and Tanenbaum, Leiweke's like "I'm getting the hells outta dodge!"
@Dangle_My_Berries @LN-093 Newf dogs shit out St.Bernards.
@Mcost61 @LN-093 I'm not sure his priority was soccer so much as football. Apparently he's the one who got Bon Jovi involved in the bid that his daughter worked on. I can see how he came here to help his daughter's career but why would MLSE hire a new president who they know is going to leave??
@Xxxxxnew Ah ok, it was more for expedited, economical construction than aesthetics. Still, in Buffalo all the restaurants are tall and have a iconic shape.
If MSLE knew Leiweke was only going to stick around for a couple years, why would they hire him to begin with? Isn't the president position a position you'd want some stability? And then after one year announce he's a sitting duck President until they find a new one? It doesn't add up. I call bullshit.
@Dangle_My_Berries You've obviously never seen a Newfoundland dog. They look like sasquatch.
Anyone going to Fanfest? I got my tickets for Friday. It's not the dressing rooms at Maple Leaf Gardens but it should still be fun.
@Xxxxxnew There's a lot of burger places in Buffalo with this pitched roof. Maybe back in the day, it was the prototypical burger joint look?
Tim Horton in uniform. The donut shop from Hamilton with the name of a Maple Leaf legend will be all over North America! GLG!
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @Pent_House @Cameron19 I'm just saying there's a greater chance of Tavares returning to Toronto from NY than there is if he was playing in California. If there's any chance at all.

@ingy56 @LN-093 @Burtonboy And this people would argue is why he's leaving, to give his daughter yet another chance at winning an NFL franchise. The rumour is he is going to the Clippers so let's see.
@Loric76 @Xxxxxnew Major League soccer averages 30,000 people in their seats however. If Leiweke's proposed expansion happens they could easily fill that if the TFC plays well.
@ingy56 @Burtonboy @LN-093 Tim's daughter was apparently heavily involved with the Bills' bid. I could see him taking this job to help his daughter out. I still see this as Cope/ Tanenbaum's fault no matter how they spin it lol.
@ingy56 @LN-093 @Xxxxxnew Ah they still have the teachers PPP stink on them though ;).
@ingy56 @Xxxxxnew Really? Which ones?
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @Pent_House @Cameron19 http://hamodia.com/2014/07/24/new-york-city-saddest-nation-study/
@Burtonboy So the only reason he came here was to get the Bills? And now that that's "doomed" he's out of here? I don't buy it.
@Xxxxxnew The new "Pit of Snakes"! Hello.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @Pent_House @Cameron19 New York has been said to be the city with the most misery in the U.S. Hopefully that misery rubs off on him.
@Pent_House @Cameron19 Joe is on his retirement plan. 6.75 million to live on the sunny California coast for 3 years. Ain't no way of getting Joe to waive his NTC. Thank god Tavares isn't playing on a team in California, he'd never return to Canada either.
@Komas Taberle @Burtonboy Abs.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 The raptors have 17 players signed for 16 spots or something, they're going to make cuts so the present team salary doesn't count. Please find me a year that they spent at/ over the luxury tax threshold.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 They've never spent to the cap with the raptors. I've never looked it up but I'm pretty sure they weren't even close to the luxury tax.
I think what it came down to was Leiweke was too big a spender. MLSE has always been about: making money and not spending money. Leiweke spent 100 million on 2 soccer players, wanted to buy the Argos, wanted to make a 60,000 seat stadium for the TFC/ Argos and to house the future outdoor game. He wanted all star games, the Bills to come to Toronto, so on. He was too grandiose for the penny pinching MSLE. MLSE was too cheap/ shortsighted for Leiweke and Leiweke was too ambitious/ money spender for MLSE. I'm still surprised his presidency only lasted 1 maybe 2 years.
@NinetyThree @Cameron19 You're fourteen. I have ESP.
@Cameron19 Poor English on the interwebs is perfectly acceptable.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 I guess "entering their prime" is an expression nowadays of the peak physical/ maturity years of an athlete? I would think 26 to 33 would be that range?
@Cameron19 @Xxxxxnew Here's a free tip for you MLHS'ers. A friend of mine told me years ago if you go to the tracks just bet on whatever horse Patrick Husbands is riding. I was recently watching the Queen's plate and guess who was riding the winning horse? Patrick Husbands.
@Mcost61 @LN-093 @Burtonboy
@Burtonboy Peddie said it wasn't easy. He said he clashed for about a year with MLSE board chair Larry Tanenbaum. "We had issues for about 12 months, it wasn't easy," Peddie said, declining to elaborate. "I think now with Bell and Rogers both owning the company the job has only become more challenging. You need someone who really knows his way around a company. I had been a president with five different companies before I was hired by MLSE and it still wasn't easy."
Someone mentioned Tanenbaum could be one of the villains at MLSE, sounds about right.
@Greg Fenton @deedrag @LN-093 How do you know what the "management wanted"? All I know is that the leafs were not at the top of spending in the league while the teachers owned the Leafs.
Here's some good news for a change. Islanders with a new owner. Tavares will only be 26 when is contract is up in 4 years and Stamkos will be 26 when his expires in 2 years. Both entering their prime, forget about Jumbo Joe.
@loomx The Sharks are going to do everything they can to make Joe waive his NTC eh? He just smiles and thinks "I'm living in paradise! Look at that coast!"
@deedrag @Greg Fenton @LN-093 As I said, the Teachers PP were the Ballard years Part Deux.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @deedrag Like I said, I wasn't a fan of Stavros back in the day but the Teachers milked the Leafs for all they were worth. We did have our best recent years under Stavros though.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @deedrag Gilmour was traded because in the locker room he was an arsehole and the leafs were losing. He went to the habs because he was a habs fan growing up. When he got there, he was such an arsehole the habs got rid of him. How do I know this? Straight from the mouth of a Stanley cup winner on the 70's habs.
@Greg Fenton @LN-093 @deedrag Yes, but were the teachers a better owner?
@Greg Fenton @deedrag Like I said, I wasn't a fan back then of Stavros but in hindsight...
@Cameron19 @ingy56 2 president's to constantly undermine each other's decisions. Sounds like great things will be accomplished!
@Cameron19 @LN-093 @DeclanK Half joking but you gotta think Cope wasn't happy with that.
@deedrag @LN-093 My point was they should get someone who is passionate about the leafs to be president. Maybe then, we'd have a shot in hell at a cup.
