Glad the Leafs recognize Gardiner is something special, not to be let go.  I don't think he even knows what he's doing sometimes but he is a rare talent.  He doesn't play like a "normal" hockey player which I'm sure drives coaches crazy but he is an artist on the ice.

@Bobsyouruncle @colino17 I agree that Dubas probably didn't have too much to do with the moves this summer but I bet Shanny had a huge part in it.  Nonis is a disciple of the Burkie "top six, bottom six", which resulted in the checking line and goon line.  These moves this summer show the leafs are going to be more balanced and the playing time will be spread out evenly.  The 90's redwings didn't start winning stanley cups until they mixed up the skilled Russians (Fedorov, Larionov) with the gritty Canadian players (Maltby, McCarty).

@Greg Fenton @GreekGod @LN-093 Lupul is making 5.25.  Booth, 1.1.  The new cost savings Leafs can't afford a Lupul.  He's too fragile and not gritty enough.

If Subban makes to arbitration, I believe he would be able to choose one or two years.  If he chooses 1 year, that would make him a pending free agent this season no?  I would bet Toronto would be high up there on his list of places to play.  The guy loves the spotlight and this city.

Here's my predicted lines for the new season (Lupul's traded for picks):

JVR-Bozak-Kessel

Booth-Kadri-Frattin

Winnik-Santorelli-Clarkson

Komarov-Holland-Kontiola

Ashton, Bodie,

Dion Phaneuf - Stephane Robidas

Jake Gardiner - Roman Polak

Morgan Rielly - Cody Franson

Petter Granberg

Bernier - Reimer

@Greg Fenton @LN-093 I think Frattin was brought in to get Kadri going.  Booth-Kadri-Frattin would be the official 2nd line but play less than the new third line:  Winnik-Santorelli-Clarkson

Here's the Shanny master plan.  Shanahan doesn't let Nonis make any long term deals this summer.  Izerman trades Steven Stamkos to the Leafs at the trade deadline.  Nonis is let go next spring.  In the summer, Shanny's buddy Izerman is named new general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

@leafdreamer I'd like to see Winnik play on a line with Clarkson.  They would be a checking, fighting, scoring machine.  Throw in Komorov and you have a wrecking ball line.

(QUOTE)The Leafs third line had the worst points per game in the league compared to other third lines.(/QUOTE)

This is because Carlyle exclusively used the third line as a defensive line against other teams' first lines.  If our first line isn't good enough to play against other teams' first line, then it isn't a first line.

(QUOTE)Capgeek has too many forwards listed on the Leafs roster right now, so looking at the Leafs cap hit there at the moment, it should go without saying, is not correct.(/QUOTE)

I think Lupul is the odd man out.  I sat next to Lupul at a restaurant/ bar and have his jersey but I'm betting he'll be traded for picks.

The avs are screwed, ROR will definitely ask for one year so he's a free agent next year and the avs will have to trade him this season versus losing him for nothing.

@peterbleafs @LN-093 @darthNihilus If Mirtle's projection is correct, we'll have over 4 million in cap space.  If that's true Nonis did a good job managing the cap since if we trade a player like Lupul we can afford a star player's contract.  It may be false hope but I'm hoping Nonis is working on a big trade. BIG.

@Xxxxxnew Trade Lupul to get our 2nd rounder back.  Trade Franson for a pick as well.  Add that with our 4 million in cap space and offer sheet him 11 million per year.  It won't happen but Subban loves the spotlight and the nightlife in Toronto.  I bet the leafs would be his choice to play besides the scabs.
