@Anthony Petrielli @Marleafs If the Leafs follow their usual trend, expect a final push after the trade deadline. Its a matter of Shanahan having the guts to throw in the towel. I hope he recognizes his inexperience in leading a team from his current position and begins a slow tear down. Has to start with our UFAs. As you said already, bigger deals in the offseason.

@Anthony Petrielli Very common trend for the Leafs. We have become a "2nd opportunity" team for bottom 6 players in the league that no other team wants to sign. They make 1-2 mil for the season and get a nice raise with another team the following year. The only difference this year is that instead of losing these players for nothing in the offseason, we are actually trying to get some kind of a return for them.

@Sebastian James @Marleafs @philthethrill I still consider his numbers to be "deflated" since he was inserted into the line up at the tail end of our "hot streak". Everybody's possession numbers since then have been disastrous. I would give Holzer a few more years to develop. He will be a solid bottom pairing shut down dman.

@Savo43 @Sebastian James @Marleafs @phaneufoundlander Clarkson talks started way before the game 7 collapse. I still think he would have been added to the roster. Kulie and Mac were both due for raises. The Leafs wouldn't be able to keep them.

@Sebastian James @philthethrill Not sure why people hate on Holzer so much. He is one of the best shut down dmen in the AHL, always playing against the top line. Considering his age he is well on his way to succeeding in this league.

@.JVR. @Marleafs Its hard to pick between D'Amigo and Ashton. D'Amigo is the best PKer in the AHL, so he will help the Leafs there. Leafs PK is abismal. Not to take away from Ashton, he can PK as well.

The way this team is playing right now, Marlies would even run them over. Leafs got way too high on their own fumes throughout this season. Now they are paying the price when it really counts.

Take a look at the Marlies. These guys, right from the start of the season knew that to win, they would have to put in a hard nosed effort night in and night out. This was engrained in their brains. A team with less skilled talent will have to put up a hard battle over 60 min to win games.

Now take a look at the Leafs. They became reliant on luck early on. Great goaltending, timely goals, lucky bounces (at both ends of the ice). They forgot how to defend leads. Now this culture became their existence. These guys cant compete in the last 15 games of the regular season, they dont deserve to compete in the playoffs.

Lets go Marlies!

10 months, 2 weeks ago on Poll: How are you feeling about the Leafs’ playoff chances?

Reply

@CanuckUKinToronto This team always had issues with playing a full game. At the beginning of the season they would show up for the last 30 min, score a few lucky goals and get away with a win (if the goalie was standing on his head). At other times they would come out strong for the first 30 min, have a 2 or 3 goal lead going into the third only to have it evaporate in a few plays. Its not about strong starts or finishes, but a full 60 min effort.

Leafs thought having a top 5 scorer automatically gets you into the playoffs.

10 months, 2 weeks ago on Poll: How are you feeling about the Leafs’ playoff chances?

@4evrblue @Belfour20 What is not comparable is how the team plays in front of the goalies. Reimer has difficulties with puck control, rebounds and getting a timely whiste for his teammates. Bernier on the other hand is the exact opposite. Has excellent puck control, does not give up rebounds into the slot and is able to get a lot more whistles for his team, either by covering the puck up or deflecting it out of the rink.

@Doorman @Xxxxxnew I am talking about a curse that goes beyond the player. Leafs plain suck when Clarkson is in the line up. Everytime he is out the team goes on a roll. As soon as Clarky is back in the line up, the team no longer puts in an effort. His "poor me" attitude is weighing on everyone in the dressing room.

@TuckerForPunishment I've been a Leaf fan since immigrating to Canada in 1999. In the last 15 years I have seen about 10 games at the ACC. I am on a 5 live game winning streak with the buds! (I was there for JVRs first game against Philly when he steped around Schenn and scored that nasty goal) My only away game for the Leafs was this seasons SO win in Ottawa. That was a great experience, seeing so many Leaf fans in an away building.
