Got the following info from a Finnish hockey fan that I worked with on a trip to Finland a few years ago:

Kontiola is our leading center forward of all current Fin-born players. Done really well on Fin national team and been a key figure there.  He is a really good team player, knows defensive duties, not just goal scoring. I would think he is more assistant than leathal finisher but those you have plenty ;-) He did so well in Russia/KHL that I believe he succeeds well in NHL. And he is not a rookie anymore, been in NHL at least a short period, so some things are familiar to him.

Leo Komarov you have seen. Hasn't change much from the days he played in my home town team "Porin Assat". And I liked him a lot at that time and he was young then, just about started his career.

Finnish goalie Jussi Rynnas, played in your organisation 2-3 seasons, you may remember him too?
Came back to Finland last season and did well being best goalie in Finnish hockey league. Now he signed a contract with Dallas Stars and is returning NHL.  Just saw him yesterday in the town :-)  He is born in my home town, Pori and has a summer cottage in Luvia.

While I was always a Burke fan I think his firing may have been justified given his inability to get a legit goalie and his hiring of Carlyle.  I liked Carlyle at the start but a younger, more flexible coach was needed.  I heard a good comment about Carlyle a while back - he's made his money as a coach and he doesn't care and won't change.

Nonis has made mistakes but he's had some bad luck too... Clarckson being a dumb-ass and the Bolland and Bernier injuries.  Nonis should be credited for getting Bernier and Bolland; two important acquisitions relatively cheaply...

I like the Shanahan hiring... given Nonis's mistakes I think it's best he gets his own man...

Gotta admit the Sens played a smart game and did not try to rough it up and fight like the Habs did... Franson did not have a good game... We're probably seeing the results of him missing camp... Ranger's slapper off the post was a good sign... I like his physical game... His timing will return... Reilly belongs in the NHL... I think he can handle it... He may make Gunnarson expendable eventually... Although I like a patient approach to player development he may be too good...

Don't think I've ever made a comment on the Kessel trade here, so here it goes... This ex-Leafs scout Simpson on Ottawa radio said the trade was a mistake because you don't build a team around a winger... A dumb argument in my opinion as the Habs in the 70s were built around Guy Lafleur, and Sam Pollock said you never trade a known asset (Kessel) for an unknown asset (draft picks).

Anybody familiar with ex-Leafs scout Shawn Simpson who is on Ottawa sports radio?  Not sure if I like him as he's a bit of a fast-talking type and I didn't like a comment he made about Andi Petrillo.  That aside he said the Leafs once gutted their entire scouting staff and were told to focus on one OHL team.  That's why the Leafs once selected three Belleville Bulls in the first round. I think Johnny Bower once spotted Grant Fuhr and brought him to the attention of management, but was told Toronto wasn't ready to sign a black goalie...

I want a team with 6 defencemen that move the puck proficiently and don't handle it like they've been thrown a grenade.  I'm not sure if Mark Fraser is good enough to be a top 6 defenceman over an 80+ game schedule and playoff.  I know he brings toughness and comes from an athletic family, I'm just not sure he has the hockey IQ.  Maybe I'm focusing on his playoff too much... Maybe he's a stop gap until Granberg or another of our younger d-men are ready?  I guess Carlyle likes him?

I like this trade... It's a long season and with Reimer's injury history Nonis could not pass up a run at Bernier given the relatively low cost to acquire a young potential starting goalie... I didn't feel confident with Scrivens playing a lot, and given he was a free agent it cost little to give him up...
