Like the Leafs and Marlies to a career debilitating degree
@Dogger when kessel actually plays defense and fore checks (and puts up points) I think we have to keep him. When he avoids playing defense, fore checking and gets shut down offensively, I think we'd be better served to trade him. He is a great offensive player, don't know if I'd have him being my best and highest aid forward ideally though

lol, I respect him for that. And don't dislike him on our team. just saying he is not a natural defensive defenceman and that his how we try to utilize him. He gets beat wide, makes pretty bad choices with the puck in his own end and hasnt put up points (a is making 7ml for the next 7 years). Still like him and rememeber how pumped I was when we got him.
1 day, 5 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Taking on the toughs
You think out top line is good defensively? And that we can build a strong D around Phanuef? I don't but that is just my opinion. As always, I hope i'm wrong
1 day, 6 hours ago on Monday Mashup: Taking on the toughs
Huge leaf fan and have been on this site for years now. Didn't know you were the Sheriff. It's called criticism of the team I cheer for. Forgot we weren't allowed to vent. Apologies
I have seen him glide plenty, he is soft and gets eaten up by other teams 4th lines
Have to disagree. He fumbles and bumbles the puck soo much it is hard to watch. He is not the worst dman obviously but he makes a ton of money and is average on a bad defense
Our top line A) needs to be broken up and B) Play some fucking Defense! Bozak especially. We are soft as baby shit up the middle and our best (highest paid) dman is suspect defensively.
Good hire of Hunter but we gotta a long way to go sportsfans
Scary to think Panic is a more attractive option on the 4th line than Ashton or Frattin! How brutal have those two been to not grab the sot back from Panic who has done absolutely nothing so far
5 days, 1 hour ago on Game Day: Game #5, Detroit Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., SNO)
What to do with Cody Franson?
I like him, puts up points, is physical, right hand, wants to be here.
However, he has trouble getting beat out wide, isn't the smartest, is a UFA, we have lots of good young d coming up, we have lots of d signed, and we aren't going to have a ton of cap space.
So, barring a trade of another dman, or Franson agreeing to sign a very reasonable deal (3-4m) I think we trade him this season regardless of where we are at in the standings.
Nonis needs to start handling assets much better than he has. No more trading picks for bums (bolland), no more trading young assets cause were dumb (colborne) and no more losing assets for nothing (Kulemin, bolland, Raymond, etc) even if we are just getting low picks back.
That is all
6 days ago on Thursday Mashup: Leafs Analytics Tools On Display, Lupul hurt
@mtommy Nice. I hope he can be a little Nyquist for us in a year or two, seems ultra skilled, fast and can play against men. Curious to see him in the Ah next season.
@Hammertownleaffan @loomx my minds in the gutter on that one, sorry
1 week ago on GDT: Game 4, Colorado Avalanche at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., TSN4)
@loomx that's what im talking about!
Peter Horachek's reaction on the bench after Kessel scored was fucking amazing.
Love our third line
beyond impressed with Percy (and I've always rooted for him)
Reimer starts next game
Ashton should draw in on the 4th line (or someone other than Panik)
I would trade Phanuef for pretty much anything right now, Thronton? ya right I know, not happening. But seriously, we have lots of d coming up and he is an offensive dman being asked to play really tough defensive minutes. Edmonton?
1 week, 1 day ago on GDT: Game 4, Colorado Avalanche at Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m., TSN4)
@mike_84 @mlclearwater Blake? ECHL along with Sparks, Rupert, Knodel.
Unrelated but I was surprised (disappointed) to see Biggs and Ross demoted to the ECHL. That is just fucking sad.
Loov has looked like a beast, Dibeau stuck with the Marlies and David Broll should be with the leafs next season imo.
Our top line will probably get 10 points vs. Pittsburgh, but they were fucking awful versus Montreal. Sad too watch but you have to take the good with the bad I suppose.
Bernier and Phan also disappointing play imo, I know they will both rebound to some degree though.
On a positive note, I met Ron Ellis today in training. One of only two leafs to win the cup in 67 and defeat the soviets in 72'. Leader for all-time goals by a leafs rw. Told him he should lace em back up!
1 week, 6 days ago on Maple Leafs claim Richard Panik off the waiver wire
Before I read the comments below let me say:
1. Kozun = wow. great game, great preseason, definitely proved his utility as an NHL forward in multiple situations. Can move up and down the line up, kill penalties and attack offensively.
2. Stuart Percy deserves some serious time in the NHL this year. He was impressive last year ( I actually thought his play was equal to Reilly\s last year in preseason) and has been solid, smart and strong this year. Great two-way defenseman and I'm seeing top 4 in a couple years.
I know it's only preseason but great game and great win. Disappointed in some of the other younger bubble players but that is hockey I suppose and we'll see if other teams even claim them.
2 weeks, 4 days ago on Game Review: Preseason Game #9, Maple Leafs 5 vs. Red Wings 1
I think Kozun could be a little shit disturbre like Gallagher and Marchand. Fast, feisty and tiny.
Also looking forward to Komoraov actually getting some minutes, Clarkson getting some PP time and Holland getting a chance to play. He had some good games last year. GLG
2 weeks, 5 days ago on Friday Mashup: Final Preseason Game Day
well played sir
I'd take Rosehill over Orr and McLaren
Questions for interest sake: Quick viceral responses.
1. Franson a leaf after the trade deadline?
2. Leivo or Percy bigger NHL impact this year?
3. Bernier a Vezina candidate (if healthy)?
4. Better season, Gardiner or Reilly?
5. Bernier re-sign for under 5.5 per year?
6. Bibeau starter for the Marlies?
7. Kessel hit 40 goals?
8. JVR new high for points?
9. Clarkson absolutely Komisarek 2.0 by seasons end?
10. Leafs make the playoffs?
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being absolute, what are the odds Reilly is the next team captain?
For the record i'm saying 10 (as long as Dion stays around for at least 2 more years).
I think the kid is going to be a solid two-way player, with exceptional offensive instincts. His leadership and work ethic are only getting better also. Very bright future
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Thursday Mashup
I'd take Broll over Devane, still hold out hope for Biggs being able to play and fight ala Chris Neil but that is a longer and longer shot every year
Also, i'm very excited for the season to start. I'm cautiously optimistic but know we are in for a typical up and down season. Reilly, Bernier, Gardiner and Kadri will have to have exceptional years. Hoping the tweaks pay off on D and our bottom six. If we are out of it by the trade deadline I hope management trades away assets with expiring contracts for picks of any kind and explores moving some other pieces (Lupul, Phan). Only time will tell.
But for now GLG!
If we want a fighter, Orr is not our guy. His top tough guy days are done and his top playing days never were. Like and respect him (as do most of the Leafs apparently) but it is a lose lose to have him on our team
Carlyle is the coach. He says a team can't play to their potential if they're scared. That is why he likes Fuck My Life (FML) and Orr.
HOWEVER, Orr isn't even a willing or capable heavy weight anymore and he sucks at hockey. I was in TO for the Buffalo game, he lost a fight to Mike Weber, who is tough but c'mon. FML cannot keep up with the game but can fight good. If they are both on the roster I will be fucking pissed. If one of them is on the roster and we lose Ashton and the fourth line plays 4 minutes a night I will also be pissed. If we get a fighter that can play (see Broll) we need them in the lineup.
Our team asset management hasn't been good IMO, if we lose Ashton for nothing it will only continue.
Sorry for the long post, this is ground hog day shit right now though.
2 weeks, 6 days ago on Wednesday Mashup: Bye Bye Carter?
@Cameron19 @mlclearwater Yes, we seem committed to playing him with rookies and 3 pairing guys. I would like him and Gards to have a go.
3 weeks, 4 days ago on Game Review: Preseason Game #5, Maple Leafs 6 vs. Sabres 4
@Hmmm @mlclearwater Agreed, unfortunately the only team that gets control when we try and exit is the opposition. Hopefully they have a remedy.
@Burtonboy @DeclanK I say "WOWY" everytime I see his hair, that's about it. Might be time to shave the egg bud
@Jordan29 @mlclearwater @sniperstar Feel bad cause he paid 600k to come over and get cut. But yes, it's not that sad in the grand scheme of things;)
I'm a Phaneuf fan but it is discouraging to see his puck handling and decision making sometimes. I know it's preseason but I'd like to see him (and others) just chip the puck of the boards and out more. Too many turnovers (granted it's preseason)
@Bruffins He's a beaut! Bolland-esque (without the look liking like a meth addict part)
@sniperstar @mlclearwater I actually feel bad for kontiola but at this point he can fuck right off
I think some of our younger players have played exceptional BUT
Its preseason people. If we expose players on one-way contracts (Holland, Ashton, etc) because a guy on a two-way contract played marginally better for a couple of preseason games, our team depth is gonna be fucked 15 games into the season. I like Carrick and Leivo LOTS but there is no harm in them starting in the A and being called up ASAP when an inury occurs. It is a marathon not a sprint
@loomx @mlclearwater Nice, I've also followed him (and most of the leafs picks) since Brampton but it wasn't until last year I realized what a gritty, beautiful little asshole he was. Truly a jack of all trades. I compared him to a non-piece of shit (plus cheaper, younger and wants to be here) Dave Bolland,
Good young player, way ahead of a guy like freddy g (I know he is much younger and has been hurt) which is awesome and shitty at the same time.
I started saying this last year and I'm saying it this year, we have an absolute gem in Sam Carrick. What a kid, going to be a great bottom six guy in the near future.
Also, Leivo reminds me of Glencross at the very worst. A nice mix of size, skill, speed and grit.
The good news is, the Leafs will mop the floor with the Sens this year and their stadium will be filled with our fans.
1 month, 1 week ago on Rookie Tournament Game #2 – Maple Leafs vs. Senators
@Matt Mistele @mlclearwater agreed
@MaxwellHowe @mlclearwater yep, and he'll never be a star, but is showing signs of NHL ability.
@Loric76 @barjv01 @mlclearwater He just needs to play his style of game confidently against all competition, this can take time when playing against grown men night in night out. He could be a bottom six beast for us in the future. I still like Broll a bit more, but they are both hell on wheels
Biggs is starting to play like we need him to. Hit everything in sight, strong along the boards, get pucks in deep. I've been pleased so far.
Findlay = C. Hanson?
Hoping MNGT learns to buy low and sell high. At the very least move players we aren't gonna resign for young assets/picks. We've been awul at keeping and or acquiring draft picks well still missing the playoffs and spending to the cap. It's all gotta stop

Craig is ususally pretty close and has some people's fav Virtanen going in the 2nd round. Crap Shoot Central. Leafs stay pat and do nothing but we all speculate like fuck right up until the final drop. Gotta love it.
Oh really? Than lower your demands at once. In fact Komarov, Bolland and Clarkson could ruffle some feathers

@TheCanucksnaphook @mlclearwater Yep, they are bound to lose. Love watching some of our younger guys get experieince. And yes losing, overtime, adversity are all so important. My hope for Leivo and Carrick to be solid contributors has certainly increased. I also really like mr mckegg. Lot of good things there
