@DCDC @bermudaboy Not yet. The Leafs still need to suck for another few years.

@Mind Bomb What, a broken heart then? Should be good to play! Suck it up young man! Stupid NHL nonsense, just disclose the injuries instead of doing this idiotic song and dance, upper this and lower that, blah, blah, blah.

@deedrag @lister @mcloki @MaxwellHowe As a major market team fan I'd be in favour of that. I suspect though that the other markets wouldn't want it. It would be curious to see if the likes of the Leafs, NYR, Detroit, Montreal, Chicago, Philly, maybe Boston, get together to try to force that system. Imagine being a fly on the wall for that conversation. :-)

@MaxwellHowe @lister @mcloki A player like Eichel or McDavid (like Crosby, Tavares, Lindros, Lemieux, Gretzky) is going to get the ice time no matter where they play. That scenario is more for the lesser talent.

@deedrag @mcloki @MaxwellHowe The problem with that is the terrible teams would likely never get the top picks and stay terrible. The playoff bubble teams would likely come out ahead. There is something to be said however of being stuck in the middle never being able to improve.

@MaxwellHowe @mcloki Certain teams would love that and certain teams would hate that. It would never get enough votes to pass.

@mcloki @MaxwellHowe I do like that idea a lot. I'd rather cheer winning than losing. I think the fact that it would be tough for the GM to manipulate things is really good. If he sets up a shitty team at the start of the year for early elimination, which other GM is going to help him via trades to get better later on? Stocking young players in the minors waiting for elimination day then bringing them up to win probably isn't going to help all that much.

@MaxwellHowe @CherryPicking Unless Leafs management have a legit young 1C in their back pocket via a future transaction, draft the center! I know that generally you draft the best player available but sometimes a glaring need must be addressed (hello Oilers!). The Leafs have enough young D as it is and unless this Hanifan guy is the next Bobby Orr, drafting the likes of Strome can't be that much of a talent drop off from Hanifan when the Leafs have such a glaring need at 1C.

@Marlies Man Stop listening to the windbag. I did over ten years ago. The only two good points he's made are on automatic icing and stop signs on the back of kids jerseys. Other than that, meh. Do yourself a favour, mute his segment and grab a beer.

3 weeks, 5 days ago on Monday Mashup: Connor Brown has 4pt game, Nylander adds goal+assist in Marlies win over Rochester

@CherryPicking @lister No, but the odds of at least some trying free agency either as an outright cash grab or to go where they really want to play should have been somewhat decent.

3 weeks, 5 days ago on Monday Mashup: Connor Brown has 4pt game, Nylander adds goal+assist in Marlies win over Rochester

@CherryPicking Ultimately a full tear down should have happened after the lockout of 2004-2005. The one and only thing that could have not been predicted were no young high profile players hitting free agency. That caught me off guard and the final nail in the coffin was Stamkos looking like he'll be staying in Tampa.

The other thing that would be nice to have happen is to have a tonne of cap space for the next few years so the Leafs can do some of those dump a shitty contract plus good prospect(s) to take the contract for those teams tight to the cap.

@mcloki  The solution is lose to the Habs but play them hard, bang some of their key players (nothing illegal though) so they don't get far into the playoffs.

@phaneufoundlander @HHT  I think that's a little cruel. Bernier has been solid to pretty damn good overall compared to Toskala and Raycroft.

Plus I don't think giving up Scrivens, Frattin and the 2nd round pick is the same as trading away Rask.

@HHT  Thanks for getting rid of it. While I very much appreciate fine looking ladies, having such pics scroll by at work is not good. For the first time I do hope what that windbag Simmons wrote in the Sun today is correct. He says the Leafs will be blowing things up, strip it to the wood, yadda yadda yadda. Though I would disaggree with one of the untouchables (with an asterisk) of JVR. If JVR can net you the first pick overall with whoever else added in, then you do it.

If this is true then I'm really looking forward as the trade deadline approaches and the draft. Finally.

@Dan39  Late first is probably the best pick they'd get as only serious playoff teams would be bidding. Unless they have an earlier pick traded from some other team.

@TheLoovTrain @phaneufoundlander @Yaknowwhat  If the Leafs will be in tear down mode, a real tear down not a half fast one, then resigning Franson is a waste of time. Everyone is on the trading block other than Reilly. That doesn't mean players get traded for a bag of pucks, particularly the younger players like Kadri, JVR, etc.

2 months, 3 weeks ago on Saturday Mashup: In Philly Tonight

Please, please, please Shanahan, blow this thing up and take the long route to building a competitive team. Get the necessary smart people in the front office (they may be mostly there already.) Tell Bell, Rogers and Tanenbaum to fuck off and that this is the plan. Trade whatever you can for high draft picks and young players. I've waited ten fucking years for a proper rebuild coming out of the 04-05 lockout. I can take another three to five before things hopefully show some promise. I held out hope that with free agency falling to age 25 that the Leafs would be able to snag one or two really excellent, if not superstar, players but the history of resigning franchise players over the years and the latest headlines of Stamkos likely resigning in Tampa have officially killed that dream for me. The quick retool IS NOT possible. Do whatever is needed to influence the draft lottery pick. Get pictures of Bettman. Kidnap his loved ones. Bribe, steal, cheat, whatever.

Just do it!

With Stamkos likely signing in Tampa there goes our last hope. Time to do what should have been done coming out of the 2004-2005 work stoppage: tear this sucker completely down and suck for five years. No more of this mediocre mushy middle shit. Yeah it hasn't worked for Edmonton but I'd rather try this approach than continue the past ten years.

@Loric76 Hottest place I've been is southern Taiwan in July. Temperatures are 30-35C but with humidity it easily feels like 45-50C. From about April through to November it very rarely cools down unless it rains and that's a brief respite or if you go up into the mountains. In the evenings the temperature falls 2-4C but the humidity usually remains. Stepping outside a wave of heat hits you and sweat starts in mere minutes. I don't mind it during the day but when trying to sleep A/C is necessary requirement.

When they put out some warnings about the temperature here in Toronto last week and this week I said "Oh finally!" then "Meh" when I went outside.
