If Dion for O'Reilly is in the realm of possibility I'd rather move in that direction. I think it improves the roster more. Bozak as a complimentary centerman could be worth alot to contending team. Vancouver?

Whats stopping the leafs from signing an overage player who is planning on being re-entered into the draft?
IE. Tyson Baillie, is it just the player hoping for a larger pay day? As far as I know you can make more money being drafted than signing as a free agent.

Nylander is hopefully the Kane to O'Reilly's Toews
How about that one?
@DeclanK @WB_222 @Mitch_S2 @Jay_Berg This is a much more accurate statement.
@Jay_Berg We've drafted alot of talented players. Alot of them just don't play for us.
Rask, Steen, Boyes, Antropov
Most scouts will say if you can draft an NHL regular out of a draft that is a success of a draft.
All NHL players drafted in recent years.
@Cameron19 @sniperstar @Mitch_S2 Jersey seems to have no fear of overpriced vets. They produce there.
1 day, 15 hours ago on Saturday Mashup: All Star Weekend
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 They currently have 1.9 mil in capspace, with only jackman coming off the books next year at 3mil. Where are you getting 17 mil ?
@sniperstar @Mitch_S2 Add in a propect like Finn or Granberg, retain some salary and I think it's almost doable.
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 Won't argue that. But still no denying his talent. Another player that screams Babcock to me.
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 Maybe not on his next deal, but he's centering the best line in hockey and only 22. Essentially a ppg. If he gets what JVR is making it will only be for a year or two. After that he's going to 6. With what it's going to cost to keep Tarasenko, I think JVR at 4.25 is very appealing to them.
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 Schwartz can play center, and will likely cost a helluva lot more than JVR. He's not big but he's great two-ways. I'd consider moving JVR for him.
@Dogger Why he's 23 and still in the AHL, not a bad piece but hardly something I would target.

@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 Looking at the BLues cap situation there's got to be something we could pry away from them. Tarsenko is going to get paid, hopefully Schwartz is the odd man out.
Ideal trade deadline..
To Col: Bozak, Gardiner
To Tor: O'Reilly
Maybe not entirely fair but very risky for us as there is no guarantee for an extension or compensation.
To Stl: Franson
To Tor: Barbashev
A steal of a prospect, probably unlikely as the Blues don't have a ton of capspace. And likely can't give Franson what he wants. Schwartz to resign and Shattenkirk to re-sign in 2018.
Also look into Adam Larson, fallen out of favor in Jersey could be a nice reclamation project for Babcock.
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 @Habskilla I never said worthless as an asset, I agree he has alot of value. Especially considering he could net us a potential core player in O'Reilly.
I'm mostly just commenting on how complimentary players don't mean much to a team without a proper core. I'f we lost Bozak tomorrow for nothing I think you could argue our team wouldn't be much worse.
@Cameron19 @Habskilla I agree O'Reilly is a risk, but he does have alot of time on his side.
And losing Bozak is a nothing for us. He's productive but he isn't a piece to build around and without any proper core pieces a complimentary guy like him is essentially worthless to us.
@Mitch92 @DeclanK There's no way they put their first in there. That's just ridiculous.
@Habskilla @Mitch_S2 @Cameron19 @DeclanK If you can move Bozak and Gardiner (essentialy spare parts in the big picture) to get a guy like O'Reilly it makes alot of sense to keep Kessel. I'd even consider moving JVR for defensive help.
His production is ridiculous, scoring isn't our issue. It's not a fit with edmonton but I would be down for trading JVR for a guys like Nurse, Ekman-Larsson, Brodin.
@StanSmith @DeclanK O'Reilly has much more room to grow, his defensive play is already far superior.
In a Bozak, Gardiner for O'Reilly Scenario we could take on a guy like Ryan Wilson. A minor leaguer with a 2 million dollar salary.
@Cameron19 @DeclanK O'Rielly with Kessel on his wing for 7 years is realistically a 65-75 point player. There's no reason not to overpay here.
@Luke_R Detroit said no to moving Larkin or Mantha for Myers, not sure they'd be down to do that for Franson.
Myers will cost alot less salary wise, and younger. A very appealing asset.
2 days, 9 hours ago on Friday Mashup: Nylander set for Marlies debut tonight in Hamilton
@Cameron19 @Mitch_S2 @sadleaf Boone Jenner would be a target of mine.
@Luke_R @Mitch_S2 Huh? More like suggested?
Franson to St Louis for Barbashev
@Cameron19 @sadleaf I think its likely that the most interested teams are the contenders and will be looking to deal futures.
@RememberSalming @Mitch_S2 just saying I think all teams are hesitant to move high picks this year.
I do think you'll see the price for Santorelli go up.
2 days, 12 hours ago on Friday Mashup: Nylander set for Marlies debut tonight in Hamilton
@RememberSalming @Mitch_S2 Gotta think they would be more hesitant to move high picks this year,
@Anthony Petrielli @Mitch_S2 Not that far fetched, I'd argue both are worth less than a second in this years draft. And that is historically what a fringe top six player goes for at the trade deadline.
2 days, 13 hours ago on Friday Mashup: Nylander set for Marlies debut tonight in Hamilton
Is it unrealistic to think you could get Miller or Hayes out of NYR for Santorelli?
Also gotta think LA would be the number one destination for Franson, given their need, his ability and his contract.
Detroit would be another, although I'm not sure they are as cash strapped.
I really think the return for Franson could be surprising, hell Gaustad was traded for a first.
@Anthony Petrielli @Mitch_S2 JVR for O'Rielly could work. I also think Gardiner could potentially net you Couturier.
Kadri and Bozak gone for dmen?
1 week, 2 days ago on GDT: Game #45, Toronto Maple Leafs vs. San Jose Sharks (10:30 p.m., TSN4)
@Anthony Petrielli We need two things desperately, improvement at center ice and cap relief.
Likely the two hardest things to acquire in today's NHL. Our defense has issue but I really do believe there are a lot of pieces to help that in the future. I've liked everything I've seen with Percy and the swedes, not to mention Finn who has had a slow start.
Who do you target to fix our center issues and how do you get him?
@traNsplantEdneWfie @Xxxxxnew List?
@Anthony Petrielli @Mind Bomb @mcloki Santorelli for a 2nd? haha
@wendelsfist @Mitch_S2 @Anthony Petrielli I think you could make an argument tha they are very similar to the leafs.
RNH very similar to Kadri at this point. Eberle to Kessel, Hall is quite similar to Lupul (injury history aside) both backends are a mess. I'd argue our goalies are better. Edmontons prospect pool is better.
The real big difference is cap space.
@Anthony Petrielli Who would you rather be at this point us or the oilers? Neither have a clue.
Wasn't it Shanny who said the other day that there would be changes if the team doesn't turn it around quickly?
@Xxxxxnew That's correct
1 week, 3 days ago on Game Review: Game #44, Anaheim Ducks 4 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 0
Frattin showed alot of promise in the early days only to fade. If you ask me this is his really last chance at becoming a full time NHLer. New coach hopefully brings out the best in him , which can be pretty good.
@Marlies Man @Burtonboy Who is ESPN, and why do you hate him?
@Jay31 Once again an ideal candidate for the leafs, if only they had some bad contracts for us to take back.
@dlb, just dlb @Yaknowwhat Colorado won't take on that much salary.
@ProfessorRance @Mitch_S2 @Hitch _ Well obviously we would have to take some salary back from San Jose to make it work, I think Couture is around 5.5?? but more what I'm referring to is where the dollars are spent. I don't think San Jose can justify spending so much down the middle because they are so close to the cap, and same with Colorado because they are a budget team.
@Conis @mr_hanie He's just not the player.
@ProfessorRance @Mitch_S2 @Hitch _ I think Kessel could net you a young quality center from teams with financial issues and too many centers.
Colorado (money), San Jose (cap space) I'd look at Duchene and Couture.
@Potcy @Zep2 I would agree with that, we aren't winning with them though.
@Hitch _ I feel like I've heard this before....................................................
@ProfessorRance @Mitch_S2 @Hitch _ We have seen again and again that an elite centerman is what you build a team around. We need to maximize Kessels value and get that player.
@ProfessorRance @Hitch _ Why would we do that?
@Yaknowwhat @Mitch_S2 They fall in love with what they have, very few assets in the NHL can be seen as appreciating assets. If your not winning now or in the future there is no reason to keep a player of diminishing value.
Why wouldn't Boston shop a guy like Chara to LA? Boston isn't winning this year and it's only getting worse for them. Chara on LA would pretty much guarantee a cup .
