@MaxwellHowe Which is fine by me. Has he even had an NHL point yet? Diid I miss one in all those games he played?

@Ydargo No. Just...no. The Jays overhauled, and took time to gel. The Leafs haven't done squat.

@The_Polish_Cannon @KenBreadner @Loric76 @Anthony Petrielli I can't think of any other reason Bozak not only hasn't been traded yet but by all accounts won't be traded....
1 month ago on Toronto Maple Leafs News & Notes
@Loric76 @Anthony Petrielli Phil Kessel is not going to allow Bozak to play 3C. I know it's for the good of the team but it's not going to happen.
@Anthony Petrielli @peterbleafs @MaxwellHowe The 'untouchable' label on Bozak really bothers me. It smacks of Kessel running the team, and that's never good.

2 months, 2 weeks ago on Reforming Randy Carlyle
@MaxwellHowe @peterbleafs @Burtonboy Actually, I think you'll find--MLHS did an article on this ages ago--that the Leafs are above average drafting over the last decade. I think the problem is we're all close to Detroit and nobody outdrafts Detroit.

@TheCanucksnaphook I keep seeing Weber on these rosters as if he's expressed some kind of interest in leaving the Preds and coming here. Any sources for that?
2 months, 2 weeks ago on Maple Leaf Hangout Ep. #29 with Down Goes Brown
It's at times like this that I really hate the media in this town. They should be asking the hard questions, and there are so many of them to ask. They should be asking how many points last year are directly attributable to coaching. Why a coach whose entire coaching philosophy is "MOVE YOUR FEET' is in any way qualified to coach this team. Why the Leafs so persistently ignore statistics. Why their only response to another sub-par season is to let the front office grow another head. You never hear questions like this and I'm sick of it.

3 months, 1 week ago on Morning Mashup
@Komas Taberle @Cameron19 Phaneuf and Franson is not going to get you Weber. Weber could and should win the Norris. It would take half this team plus a couple of firsts before they'd do anything other than giggle helplessly at you.

@Great Dane @KenBreadner Well, you can't have all rooks. You need some older hands around, even if you're starting from scratch...
4 months ago on Poll: Now What?
@Great Dane I'd be interested in keeping Lupul. To me, he's been the de facto captain of this team and it's obvious he bleeds blue and white.
@Hammertownleaffan Ah, yes, competence. Why is it that every coach that comes through here is only incompetent while they're here? Last year, as I recall, it was Eakins that was supposed to be the coaching saviour. He's done wonders in Edmonton, hasn't he?

@.JVR. @rustynail Reilly at least. Why is he even up here if he's sitting?
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Preview and GDT: Holland’s Landing – Sabres at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
@weirdalyankadick @KenBreadner That's why I said 'if'. We need a natural center with some kind of talent. To get one, assuming Holland is one, with a piece we weren't even using, at a time when every GM in the league knows our center woes...it would be impressive.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Leafs Acquire Peter Holland for Jesse Blacker (with other parts involved)
If Holland turns into anything other than a stopgap this has to be seen as a huge win for Nonis. Even if he's a decent stopgap I'd say the Leafs win this trade simply because they address a glaring need without giving much up at all. I used to be high on Blacker--remember him ordering Kaberle around?--but his development seriously stalled.
@djamon @Jordan29 Oh, yeah, JVR and Kessel are really sucking this year with Bozak weighing them down.

9 months, 2 weeks ago on GDT: Edmonton Oilers at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
@Cameron19 @TuckerForPunishment @Bobsyouruncle That SO was impressive though. There were probably three shots that should have been goals. And it wasn't just THAT he played well, it's HOW he plays well. There's an absolute minimum of movement with him. He makes some very tough saves look trifling.

@juliesucks @Alec Brownscombe You wonder when the media's going to have the balls to call Carlyle out on this. He owes it to the fans to explain why the players who give the team the best chance to win sit in favour of the players he seems to think give the time the best chance to not lose.
9 months, 3 weeks ago on Preview and GDT: Avalanche at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., TSN)
@DJBrianBurke @wiski In Toskala's defence, I defy anyone to stop that Isles clear. That puck jittered about three feet. It looked terrible, but there's no way anybody could have predicted that bounce.
@peterbleafs @Armchair GM I harped on it too. I've seen too many goalies come with high hype after a stellar half season to a season...think Toskala, Vesa and Raycroft, Andrew. Some people had Bernier canonized before he ever donned the jersey.
That said, it's not THAT Bernier plays so well that is winning me over. It's HOW he is playing so well. He is calm and stable. You saw Reimer last night flopping around like a gutted fish. On two of the goals he had no idea where the puck was at all. Bernier plays so calm in the crease. It's just really impressive. I'm not ready to just *give* him the #1 role but he's pushing me that way.

@CanuckUKinToronto @4evrblue @Mind Bomb @Yaknowwhat If Gardiner and Carlyle continue to feud, I wonder what EDM would give up for those two in a trade.
@JMAC17 @4evrblue I feel bad for Reimer, I really do. He is a very good goalie who makes life very difficult for himself. Bernier seems to be a very good goalie who makes life easier, in that he's just as positionally sound but doesn't give up so many God-awful rebounds.
Last night the whole team hung Reimer out to dry, but he didn't help his cause much.
@4evrblue @Loric76 @CanuckUKinToronto Carlyle seems to think Rielly is close, if not ready, already. I am really starting to wonder if Gardiner is going to be traded.
@B_Leaf Bozak scores in shootouts and breakaways simply because there's no Kessel for him to pass to.
10 months ago on Post Game: Leafs 4 at Canadiens 3
This opinion is definitely in the minority here, and I'll be dismissed as a wuss, but there was one point in the aftermath of Parros where one of the CBC heads said something like "it's all wildly entertaining until something like this happens." I cringed. No. No it's not. It's not wildly entertaining *because* things like that happen. I don't know when it was that "consequence" became a dirty word, but it (sadly) is.
@Wilbur @Doorman @KenBreadner @T K O Sorry, guys, I'm wrong, you're right. I thought Liles got concussed within a few days of the signing. Pretty boneheaded move from Burke there, then....you never know with concussions, some of them don't seem to affect a player at all, others take a year or even longer to recover from, and some end careers...
10 months ago on Preseason Post Game: Game #8 – Red Wings 1 at Leafs 3
@T K O I seem to recall people were okay with Liles' deal when he signed it. Not great, not even good, but the reaction wasn't the same as say Bozak for $4.2.
Then he got a concussion.
So many Leaf fans give no quarter for concussions. See Lombardi, Matthew. The guy wasn't even supposed to play, but he did. Did the Leaf fan base give him kudos for trying? No. The guy got death threats. DEATH THREATS.
Liles hasn't been the same player since his concussion, which to many people is completely inexcusable. The guy was being groomed for the Avs captaincy and has always been a leader in the room. Even now his game hasn't gone completely to shit and there's every chance he'll get it back.
@B_Leaf @Tim Horton Depends on what the issue was. I heard rumours that Grabo refused to set foot on the ice towards the end of that game 7 collapse. And even if those are completely unfounded, the way he handled himself (or didn't) on his way out of town suggests to me he's seriously lacking in maturity.
@CanuckUKinToronto @Loric76 @TuckerForPunishment What I can see happeneing is one of those core players, maybe even two, getting moved, either at the trade deadline or at the draft, in exchange for a Kessel-level player that alone makes 3/4 of what those two can be expected to sign for. Let the speculation begin.

@Savo43 @-Keon- Agreed. Keon, I don't know how you can look at Raymond's performance thus far and suggest he's not good enough to be a Leaf. I'm reserving final judgment until I see a few more games but my first impression of him is excellent.

I want to chime in and thank you, Phook...phenomenal job. I really miss the MLHS Annual but this site has outdone itself this year already.
@Knights2Leafs @Zep2 I'm sick and tired of people anointing goalies...Bernier has comparable stats to Reimer, but even less NHL experience. The list of goalies who looked phenomenal in their first 80 games is a long one, and it includes some familiar names such as Toskala and Raycroft. I'm not saying Bernier is that bad--he might be the best thing since goalie pads--but how people can somehow *know* he's destined for greatness is a mystery for the ages.
10 months, 3 weeks ago on Kadri’s in the house.. What now?
@RielledUp @Optimustic @Great Dane No, the thing about Lombairdi, that everybody seems to forget, is that he suffered a very, very serious concussion and he wasn't considered likely to play at all. He was the price for Franson. That he played at all was a bonus.
There is some similarity to Raymond in that he too had a serious injury. But he is much further along in recovery from it.
@CanuckUKinToronto I remember when this kid was drafted, mostly because I thought he sounded like a Mafia don. I remember the paltry and pithy writeups that basically admitted "okay, folks, we got nothing on him". The consensus was--random pick, not going to go anywhere or amount to anything. Now look at him.
