@darthNihilus or let's change all the players again? what are you suggesting? Since Fletcher they've been through about a churn and a half.

Interesting choice of opening on the first night since CBC learned their world was ending.

@.JVR. @rustynail Reilly at least. Why is he even up here if he's sitting?
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Preview and GDT: Holland’s Landing – Sabres at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
@weirdalyankadick @KenBreadner That's why I said 'if'. We need a natural center with some kind of talent. To get one, assuming Holland is one, with a piece we weren't even using, at a time when every GM in the league knows our center woes...it would be impressive.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Leafs Acquire Peter Holland for Jesse Blacker (with other parts involved)
If Holland turns into anything other than a stopgap this has to be seen as a huge win for Nonis. Even if he's a decent stopgap I'd say the Leafs win this trade simply because they address a glaring need without giving much up at all. I used to be high on Blacker--remember him ordering Kaberle around?--but his development seriously stalled.
@djamon @Jordan29 Oh, yeah, JVR and Kessel are really sucking this year with Bozak weighing them down.

@Cameron19 @Dangle_My_Berries I thought Kessel made some good defensive plays.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on GDT: Edmonton Oilers at Maple Leafs (7 p.m., CBC)
@Cameron19 @TuckerForPunishment @Bobsyouruncle That SO was impressive though. There were probably three shots that should have been goals. And it wasn't just THAT he played well, it's HOW he plays well. There's an absolute minimum of movement with him. He makes some very tough saves look trifling.

@Komas Taberle @dlb eh @Dan39 Ranger was top four verging on top 2 in TB. I still think it will take about half a season for him to get completely up to speed. We'll like him when he does.

@juliesucks @Alec Brownscombe You wonder when the media's going to have the balls to call Carlyle out on this. He owes it to the fans to explain why the players who give the team the best chance to win sit in favour of the players he seems to think give the time the best chance to not lose.

@DJBrianBurke @wiski In Toskala's defence, I defy anyone to stop that Isles clear. That puck jittered about three feet. It looked terrible, but there's no way anybody could have predicted that bounce.
@peterbleafs @Armchair GM I harped on it too. I've seen too many goalies come with high hype after a stellar half season to a season...think Toskala, Vesa and Raycroft, Andrew. Some people had Bernier canonized before he ever donned the jersey.
That said, it's not THAT Bernier plays so well that is winning me over. It's HOW he is playing so well. He is calm and stable. You saw Reimer last night flopping around like a gutted fish. On two of the goals he had no idea where the puck was at all. Bernier plays so calm in the crease. It's just really impressive. I'm not ready to just *give* him the #1 role but he's pushing me that way.

@CanuckUKinToronto @4evrblue @Mind Bomb @Yaknowwhat If Gardiner and Carlyle continue to feud, I wonder what EDM would give up for those two in a trade.
@JMAC17 @4evrblue I feel bad for Reimer, I really do. He is a very good goalie who makes life very difficult for himself. Bernier seems to be a very good goalie who makes life easier, in that he's just as positionally sound but doesn't give up so many God-awful rebounds.
Last night the whole team hung Reimer out to dry, but he didn't help his cause much.
@4evrblue @Loric76 @CanuckUKinToronto Carlyle seems to think Rielly is close, if not ready, already. I am really starting to wonder if Gardiner is going to be traded.
@Cameron19 @CanuckUKinToronto The Avs are 2-0 and aside from their PP, they look dangerous. That McGinn-MacKinnon-Parenteau line is just lethal.

@B_Leaf Bozak scores in shootouts and breakaways simply because there's no Kessel for him to pass to.

This opinion is definitely in the minority here, and I'll be dismissed as a wuss, but there was one point in the aftermath of Parros where one of the CBC heads said something like "it's all wildly entertaining until something like this happens." I cringed. No. No it's not. It's not wildly entertaining *because* things like that happen. I don't know when it was that "consequence" became a dirty word, but it (sadly) is.
@Wilbur @Doorman @KenBreadner @T K O Sorry, guys, I'm wrong, you're right. I thought Liles got concussed within a few days of the signing. Pretty boneheaded move from Burke there, then....you never know with concussions, some of them don't seem to affect a player at all, others take a year or even longer to recover from, and some end careers...
5 months, 1 week ago on Preseason Post Game: Game #8 – Red Wings 1 at Leafs 3
@T K O I seem to recall people were okay with Liles' deal when he signed it. Not great, not even good, but the reaction wasn't the same as say Bozak for $4.2.
Then he got a concussion.
So many Leaf fans give no quarter for concussions. See Lombardi, Matthew. The guy wasn't even supposed to play, but he did. Did the Leaf fan base give him kudos for trying? No. The guy got death threats. DEATH THREATS.
Liles hasn't been the same player since his concussion, which to many people is completely inexcusable. The guy was being groomed for the Avs captaincy and has always been a leader in the room. Even now his game hasn't gone completely to shit and there's every chance he'll get it back.
