@Reversethecurse13 @Loric76 Alec and co. can certainly do as they please, it's their site.  It certainly seems very heavy-handed though.  Poor approach IMO, with little to no communication which makes it worse.  Can't expect it to sit well with a lot of people.  There's only so much people will accept before leaving, as some already have started to do.

Unless that's their intent, to drive the regulars out and somehow change the culture.  In which case I would suggest they grow up and just say so.  Ah well

@DeclanK @Loric76 @ Keon @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan still struggling to see how it fits.  I might be just not getting it, but I don't think that's the case.

Dion's stats in the chart at the top of the article have him worse than everybody but Gleason in Corsi Against.  They're all on the same team, so the systems argument and the teams league worse zone start % doesn't really explain why.

He had really tough minutes, tougher than everybody else on the team by a longshot.  Yet his partner, who has a terminal hip issue, managed better Corsi Against without Dion than with?  Wouldn't it be the other way around?  Wouldn't Gunnar off the ice make Dion better?

Hey maybe when Randy talked about Polak pairing with Phaneuf he didn't mean the top line.  Maybe Phaneuf is going to drop to the 2nd or 3rd lol.

It would be absolutely nuts but it's #RandyLogic.  I wouldn't put it past him...

@TheLoovTrain @Yaknowwhat Hence the 'magic bullet' talk below.  What's the formula that brings all of the stats together?

18 hours, 39 minutes ago on 10 Questions: Part 2 — Will Stephane Robidas and Roman Polak improve the defence?

Reply

@StanSmith Corsi is fine IF you take into account all the other stats along with it.  zone starts, zone ends, quality of competition, relative corsi, etc.  None of them work on their own, you need to look at the entire package to come close to understanding what's really going on.  And even then you need to take the whole package with a grain of salt and use your eyes to see for yourself.

Reply

@TheLoovTrain @Loric76 @DeclanK @ Keon @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan I think a lot of these stats are still too new and haven't matured enough yet, at least not to the point that they can be taken at face value and not with a grain of salt.  Nobody has figured out the right formula that fits perfectly yet.  That "aha!" moment hasn't occurred yet.

It's great that people are working to understand and improve them tho.  It really is the future of the professional game.  But until that magic bullet is found it's going to paint all kinds of wrong pictures.  Reader beware.

@DeclanK @Loric76 @ Keon @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan thanks Declan.  But how does this data fit into the stats in the article to explain why more offensive D rate better, or why overworked guys like Dion take a bath relative to others on the team.

18 hours, 55 minutes ago on 10 Questions: Part 2 — Will Stephane Robidas and Roman Polak improve the defence?

Reply

@Burtonboy @Loric76 @ Keon @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan no worries, the main point is that the article leads you down a rabbit hole and doesn't paint the whole picture.  Draws false conclusions.  A reader that doesn't know any better may not realise that Robidas had a more balanced zone start %, while Polak was used almost exclusively in defensive zone starts (I actually don't know if this is true, using it as an example).

Reply

@ Keon @Bon Scott was a Leaf fan I asked about Dion's numbers an hour ago, was ignored.

To me it means the article is flawed and is drawing false conclusions.  There's a variable that's not being taken into account, like Quality of Competition, zone start, or something else, and it's skewing the results.

And Frattin making it has nothing to do with Holland.  Holland stays too.  Dump Santo or Booth or any of the other 1-year wonders before Holland.

@T K O all depends on Kadri.  We've had better C's on this team than Bozak, but nobody has stuck with Kessel the way Bozak has.  Frattin and Kadri were magic in 11/12 and 12/13.  If that chemistry comes back, forget about Clarkson or Santorelli or anybody else playing RW with Naz.
