@MaxwellHowe You are correct regarding his giveaways.  Or his giveaways are created because he presses in the corners and no one backing him up. If he teamed with a defenseman who will back him up and a system where one of the defensive minded wingers also back up/cover when he is forward, that should accommodate.

I think he is bridged.  There are too many aspects to his game which 2 more years will conclude just what type of player he really is.. Already, he is a main EV min guy and possibly a solid pp guy

@Burtonboy @CanuckUKinToronto I Keep thinking Ashton is dealt in package with Franson..   I think based on what Bodie provided last year, he was more effective in a 4th line/additional winger role than Ashton.. so they either think Ashton can finally take it to the next level at the NHL or deal him and use Bodie until another Marlie can fill the role-  and injury fill/call ups for say Carrick and someone like Broll.. Orr and FML can not be on this roster anymore

Looking at capgeek, if we keep our summer signings and keep up Bodie as the extra rather than Ashton, plus have Granberg with our D, we have $5.89m in cap space with yet to add Gardiner.. That would be a 22 man roster with Gardiner.  So assume he gets $2.6m We have more than $3m in cap space allowing also to have say an Ashton or someone up for 23 man roster

@mike_84 @CanuckUKinToronto @Jay_Berg I see either a third pairing LD if they don't know how to play the existing.. or a winger- like a Holland prospect who has potential for 2/3rd line.. as I think Ashton is not that in their view anymore

@mike_84 I think Booth and Santo will play on the same line - 3rd as they played together.  I see Clarkson still.

then Holland maybe with Booth and Santo with Kontiola and Leo on 4th to start.  I think third and 4th lines will get the same ice time..  Maybe see TOI as follows (excluding PP/PK- if all even strength)

L1-  18 mins

L2- 16:30

L3- 14 min

L4  11:30

then pending how they play- Line 4 can move to 3 etc plus a few wingers shifting..

@Great Dane If Leafs can average under 30 shots a game that is a feat.. that is cutting 15% less shots.. Put us around 20-22nd in league in shots against.  But as we talked about before, with a save% over 920 (or even 915), That meand 40-45 less goals against per season!!!!!! That has to translate to 5-10 more points and playoff position improvements

@TheCanucksnaphook @CanuckUKinToronto No kidding.. this is what I mean.. They each crapped out.. Reimer at the start of many first periods.. Clarkson.. no comment.. Others showed limited interest/passion when knocked down..  Gut check time.. if not Shanny needs to make it coat check time..

@TheCanucksnaphook @CanuckUKinToronto Last year, Reimer's second half of the season was maybe second worst on the whole team to Clarkson.  Dion the last 15 games.  Strangely Reimer was very good the first 15 games he played and Dion the first 65.  There has to be a reason and mgmt and coaches need to get to the root of that too

2 days, 2 hours ago on James Reimer Signs for 2 years, $2.3 million per season

@TheCanucksnaphook Reimer would have to adjust and accept/learn to the be best backup that he can be.  Be patient and if he gets an opportunity to fill in for injury or weak play by Bernier, he needs to step up and be his best.  Last year mentally, he couldn't do that.  Maybe he learned over the summer to accept it and agreed for a 2 yr deal..... or he signed hoping he can be dealt...... time will tell for either of these points

@Cloud09 @CanuckUKinToronto I can't see Reimer outplaying Bernier for an extended period.  He started earlier last year but even before his "injury" in LA. ht had about 15 games before with a n 880%.   His technical ability is not as good as Bernier's albeit Bernier seems to let in some real sleeper goals.

People are debating below if Reimer is battling Bernier for number one.  Bernier makes $3.4m this year and Reimer is making $2.3m.  Bernier is Timmy's boy.. He is the man unless he really craps the bed for an extended period or gets injured.

@MLHS_Luke @CanuckUKinToronto We don't need "candidates" for the starters role.. Bernier is "the starter" and had the performance and stats to back that up as a top 7 in the league. .. his style supports continued performance that way.  Clarkson can only get better.

and despite all you said.. we had a very good winning percentage up until game 68.. ..even though we were a mess in our own end

@loomx @CanuckUKinToronto Pens have goalie issues still- MAF and no options. Bruins lost a very good reliable back up in Chad Johnson- (Rask didnt play in 24 games last year-  that is more than a quarter of all games... so that can be an issue possibly too

3 days ago on (Thursday Mashup) David Booth: Another low-risk option with upside potential

@vinoa @CanuckUKinToronto @MLHS_Luke I look at the entire contribution on the ice.  Raymond scored but defensively weak.. So if we lose 10 goals in the year but prevent 10.. break even. How many opportunities did Kule blow? Gunnar and the inability to get the puck out of our zone?  So all depends more on what the new guys do and the role they are expected to fill to be more tougher to play against (all areas of the ice) than the guys leaving. Kadri, Gardiner, Rielly, Bernier and Bottom 6 additions like Holland should all be getting better.. and addition by subtraction of Orr/FML and soon Franson too I think

Simmons is correct (yikes admitted it) on TSN now

Said if Rielly, Bernier and Gardiner progress.. they could be stars and Leafs could be like rangers with McDonagh and Lundqvist..

Also said Bruins and Pens got worse.. so did Habs and Sens.

Reality is Leafs can move up and competed with the best in the East.
