Last year during the finals, I was pinning away for Brandon Saad instead of Biggs

But at the end of the day, this team isn't short off skill and speed, its short on sandpaper. Was Biggs a wasted pick. maybe, but if he ever manages to play a regular 3rd line shift and make life miserable for the opposing D , maybe not

@Anthony Petrielli @Zep2  Actually, I think Vanek has been irrelevant to Mtl. The difference is the Habs and leafs is this

On a 4 game losing streak , and down 4-1 to Ottawa, they took advantage of a Ottawa collapsing to turn their season around

TO had that opportunity again MTL  when they has lost 4 in a row, but lost to them though they outplayed them . Not Reimers finest hour.

Vanek may have rejuvenated the leafs PP

In all the discussion about centres, the fucking Habs are going into the playoffs with a centre group that is no better than ours talent and size  wise

As much as hate the Habs,  and I detest them viscerally , the difference between the Leafs position and the Habs  can be described in 2 words,

EFFORT -WILL

@Pent_House  Bolland and Clarkson were supposed to help that. Didnt happen

The illusion that this team was a playoff team and close to being a contender has been exposed

There are some guys on the Marlies that will be able to play that fore checking aggressive game in the future, Ashton, Broll maybe Carrick, then there is  Gauthier in the Q who maybe , hopefully could be a Coutourier like player

Last fall we all thought that we were in the process of being a playoff mainstay and a few pieces away from contending

Ways to go yet. Keep those #1 picks

Sharks are one of the most successful organizations in the NHL  but their leadership is constantly questioned because they haven't won the Cup.

The Canucks were rolling over the Bruins until Rome hit and the refs put away their whistles. Now Bergeron is a stud and the Sedins are duds

Who leads on the Caps, Flyers , Ottowa or Habs who haven't win in recent memory either

Ive been on the road today so I wasn't able to see presser and just got bits and pieces on the radio

Thanks for the read AP, great stuff as usual

From comments on the radio, I think Dion gives up the C or is stripped of it. Not pointing fingers, but Leiewicke questioning leadership of the team isn't a vote of confidence. Bolland gets it of he resigns. My dark horse candidate-JVR

At least 3 Marlies will move up. Holland , Ashton and Granberg are in .

I was willing to throw Kulie away with the bathwater. But I suggested the other nite that we keep him due to his versatility at the right price.

Nonis was hero for getting Bolland and Clarkson in July and is a ZERO in April . The truth is somewhere in between

Carlyle was unable to fix the problems he identified. Its not all on him, but his holding only the Kadri, Gardiners and mar lies accountable didn't help

One  bright spot is that the Leafs will pick in the 1st round for the 3rd straight year, that is an organizational baby step that is to be appreciated.

In hindsight, which is 20-20, Bernier/ Scrivens combo would have been the way to go. Would a Riemer / Bernier trade been possible.

Scrivens was comfortable and thrived as a back up. Riemer just couldn't seem to be able to cope with that role once he lost the starters job

@barjv01 Since 1967 this team has been cursed with worse the ownership in professional sports. The only glimpse of sanity was Stavros the grocer. Ballard, Teachers/Peddie Tannenbum and now this Cope led bunch of suits always has their eye fixed on the bottom line instead of the standings

I hate the sleight of hand, change the channel, ass covering that the Shanny hiring was, but if he can finally put in a lasting management team /structure  focused on winning then thats a move forward

@MaxwellHowe  They were a team who played on a tight rope all year and rode their top line to death .

That stretch of games after the LA  up to the Habs, was the worse stretch of games Riemer played , and the dart to heart was the MTL game. The 2nd best team won. They are going to the playoffs, the Leafs golfing.

Re Shanny detractors- I get the fact that over the long term, the team is hopefully better organized at the top and that the revolving door of coaches and GMs will come to and end

But when a team sitting in 3 rd goes  into a tailspin that sees it get ZERO  points out of 16 and 4 out of 28, maybe something should of been done during that skid to try to stop the slide

Announcing Shanny  3 weeks ago in combo with the firing of the coaching staff, or stripping Dion of the C  would of had been a lot less  cynical than hiring Shanny when all is lost

4 out of a possible 28, that says everything you need to know

Its time too clean house. Coaching staff gone

Kulie, Raymond, Orr gone

Franson/ Riemer gone through trades

Try to get a decent return on Lupul and Dion, giveaway Gleason and Clarkson if you can

The one hope I have with the Shanahan signing is that we finally get some long term stability in the organization

Too many coaches, GMs, Presidents and meddlesome owners in too few years

Peddie and Tannenbaum, Ballard were a disaster , Cope cost us BB who has now been replaced by Nonis /Shanahan

Succesful organizations have stability at the top. You need only look at Det, Boston, Sharks

@leafersutherland  My objection to Shanahan was based purely on timing

Team

-loses 8 in a row

-has no accountability throughout the losing streak

-coach tuned out

-core overplayed worn out

-base untrusted, under utilized

-embarasses themselves and their fan base

Somewhere in that 2 or 3 week clusterf**k something more  productive could have been down , if only to send a message

Shanahan hiring was optics and ass covering

@WendelGilmour Im ready to cut the strings on Kulie.  I never expected him to be overtly physical, but I did expect him to seperare player from puck on a regular basis and to occasionally go into beast mode (Kaleta). That guy is gone

On Lupul- if you can get fair value, pull the trigger. He seemed to get less intense in the offensive zone with the puck, trying o be too cute, turning pucks over in the middle of the ice  . NOT SHOOTING
